New Year! New Projects!
Project Name: Replacement of Bridge No. 0803800 on MD 254 (Cobb Island Rd.) over Neale Sound
Location: Cobb Island, MD (Charles County)
Owner: Maryland State Highway Administration
Contract Value: $13,271,986
Projected Start Date: January/February 2018
Project Description: The current bridge will be replaced with a 575-foot long steel girder bridge with a 20-foot vertical clearance that consists of six piers in the water. Construction of piers includes driving 36” steel pipe piles over 100 feet long and cast-in-place concrete caps. Footings for abutments will be founded on H-pile. The existing fender system will be removed and a new one will be constructed underneath the new bridge. The project also includes installation of sheet pile walls behind the existing timber bulkheads, construction of cast-in-place concrete retaining walls at the abutments, installation of 1,400 cubic yards of lightweight fill, and utility relocation. After the new bridge is constructed and open to traffic, the old bridge will be removed in its entirety. McLean anticipates the project will take 2 years to complete, with construction of the new bridge and the removal of the existing structure being completed by early 2020.
The McLean Contracting Team has been awarded a NCDOT design build contract to replace the existing 88-year old Perquimans River swing span bridge with a new swing span bridge and replace the existing earthen causeway with a fixed span structure. The new bridge will be 2688 feet long which includes a 196-foot steel through truss swing span structure. This project includes realigning and widening US17 Business from south of the Perquimans River Bridge to north of the US17/NC37 intersection. McLean Contracting Company in association with our Lead Designer RK&K, strategically assembled a team of experts, including Hardesty & Hanover, the world’s leading movable bridge designer, Branch Civil a heavy civil roadway contractor, Steward Machine one of the leading movable bridge machinery and steel fabricators, and EHM a swing span electrical control system expert. The date of availability for this project is January 2, 2018 with a final completion of June 14, 2021. The construction is scheduled to start in summer of 2019. Congratulations to all our team members and we look forward to working with NCDOT to design and construct this project.
