FREE PUBLIC ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION NOW AVAILABLE IN SNOWMASSSnowmass is offering its first public electric vehicle charging station, thanks to a generous grant from the Colorado Energy Office. WHAT’S COMINGSnowmass Discovery, an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has been created to continue the science and programming associated with this historic discovery through the exploration of Snowmass by creating engaging experiences that celebrate the finest alpine Ice Age discovery in North America. This will ensure the legacy of this discovery lives on in Snowmass for generations to come. Learn more about this organization by visiting their website at snowmassdiscovery.org.

In October 2010, a bulldozer operator working near Snowmass uncovered the tusk of a young female mammoth. Over the next 10 months, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science conducted a fossil excavation, yielding a treasure trove of well-preserved Ice Age fossils. Museum crews uncovered 5,400 bones of Ice Age animals, including mammoth, mastodon, giant ground sloth, camel, deer, horse, giant bison, as well as plant life, insects, and fossils of smaller animals including otters, beavers, salamanders, snakes and more.

This discovery is both the best high elevation site in the world, and the best ice age site of any kind in North America for diversity.
