In 2010, Winston-Salem Business Inc. will continue to target its marketing and outreach efforts to specific companies within distinct cluster groups. Further explora-tion of “green” businesses will be a major focus in 2010.

Current target groups include:

Logistics & DistributionThe opening of the FedEx Hub at Piedmont Triad International Airport will be a key driver for the development of this cluster. WSBI

will focus on hub-area develop-ment in Forsyth County and will also participate in regional market-ing efforts with local allies.

Advanced Manufacturing Manufacturing will continue to be a target for Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, primarily companies in the plastics, light metal fabrication and transporta-tion component industries. This cluster will further be explored to seek companies with high-value products that require proximity to the FedEx Hub.

Financial Services & Data Centers The availability of Class A and B office space both downtown and in the suburbs will be a driver in targeting financial service, data center and other back office operations. WSBI will position Winston-Salem as a high value choice for companies who are looking to reduce their operating costs without compromising their skilled workforce.

Life Sciences WSBI will expand its collaboration with the Piedmont Triad Research Park in recruiting and growing biotech, R&D, medical device and other life science and healthcare related ventures.

Green IndustriesWSBI will position Winston-Salem and Forsyth County as an

excellent location for companies who process bio-fuels, manufac-ture/distribute “green” products (building materials, renewable energy components, etc.) and who are involved in the design of “green” facilities. WSBI will work closely with City/County officials and with the NC Department of Commerce and its energy office to promote Winston-Salem and the state as the most progressive location in the Southeast for sustainable development.

The closing of the Dell plant has left the Union Cross sub-market with an impressive inventory of available buildings and sites capable of handling large manufac-turing and distribution projects. WSBI has compiled a compre-hensive Union Cross area real estate package that includes the Dell facility and the nearby vacant buildings and land to market to end users and developers.

In addition to the real estate assets, WSBI will market the available skilled labor force, utility infra-structure, general location and proximity to the FedEx Mid- Atlantic Hub to prospective companies and consultants.
