WR-G305iSoftware-Defined VHF/UHF Receiver

WiNRADiO COMMUNICATIONS

The WiNRADiO WR-G305i is the first software-defined VHF/UHF scanning receiver on a PCI card.

In a software-defined receiver, the entire last intermediate frequency stage and an all-mode demodulator are implemented entirely in signal-processing software running on a personal computer. This brings about significant advantages: performance, flexibility, configurability, reliability and convenience. There is also a reduced risk of obsolescence, as new demodulators for new types of digital modulations can be added by simply upgrading the software.

The receiver is constructed to be especially resistantto computer-generated noise. It comes on a standard 2/3 length PCI card and installs in minutes. Just plug the receiver in, install the supplied software and let this innovative receiver surprise you with its performance and amazing new features.

The WiNRADiO WR-G305i receiver is designed for demanding applications where the ability to locate even the weakest signals in background noise and extract the cleanest possible audio is important.

The numerous types of squelch, scanning modes and high scanning speed make this receiver a highly flexible and versatile scanner, eminently suitable for demanding VHF/UHF monitoring tasks. Its advanced softwarefeatures and extensive multi-level software support provide the G305i receiver's user with an excellent communications intercept and experimentation tool of choice.

The WiNRADiO WR-G305i receiver's high sensitivity, very low phase noise and flat-passband internal filtering make it also ready for exploring modern digital modulations.

The WR-G305i receiver front panel contains numerous unique features, as well as conventional displays and controls. There are manyalternative tuning methods, three scanning modes, automatic step sizeselection and a truly remarkable S-meter which can show values in S-units, dBm or microvolts. There is a dual-loop AGC with selectable reaction speeds, as well as manual IF gain control. Memory is limited only by the capacity of your hard drive. An audio filter shapes the demodulated signal to your listening preferences.

There are also two spectrum scopes, invaluable in determining activityon the band and normally found only on much more expensive equipment. A multiple-parameter squelch and a graphical hit-counter are also included in the arsenal of this very powerful and flexible scanner.

The standard supplied demodulator provides the performance of a highly respectable scanner with more features than a conventional scanning receiver would typically provide, even synchronous AM demodulation and high-resolution real-time spectrum scope.

The optional Professional Demodulator provides even more: graphicallyand continuously adjustable IF filter (in 1Hz increments), user-definableaudio filter, interactive block diagrams with two additional audiospectrum scopes, additional demodulation modes and even variousbuilt-in test and measurement facilities normally only availablein expensive communication test equipment.

The construction of this receiver is truly groundbreaking and innovative. The remarkably sensitive receiver sets a new standard of cleanliness (in terms of suppression of interference and spurious signals) despite the fact that it is used in a potentially noisy PC environment.

The card complies to the PCI 2.2 standard. Being only two thirds of the full PCI length, it should fit in most modern desktop computers.

Wide-FM Demodulator OptionThe Wide-FM Option provides a separate wide-FM demodulator. The wide-FM demodulation is performed in hardware, using conventional hardware-based demodulation techniques, in order to ease the requirement of PC processing power which would otherwise be required for a signal of this bandwidth. In other words, the Wide-FM Option is an entirely separate receiver in its own right.

Software OptionsIn addition to the Professional Demodulator, there are numeroussoftware options available for this receiver, for example variousdigital demodulation and decoding options, plug-ins to facilitatespecial monitoring, memory, database and exploratory functions, and even a "Radio Basic" programming language specially designed for computer-based radio receivers.

AntennasWiNRADiO has an extensive range of antennas and antenna accessories to suit most indoor or outdoor applications of the G305i receiver.

The WiNRADiO WR-G315i receiver is a software-definedhigh-performance wideband receiver (9 kHz - 1800 MHz) on a PCI card. The front-end is a DDS-based double-conversion superhet, the last IF stage is implemented in software resident in the on-board DSP.

This receiver is intended for government, military, security, industrial, surveillance, broadcast monitoring, and demanding consumer applications.

The receiver is extremely sensitive, making it possible tocomfortably read CW signals well under -130 dBm inputlevels, yet featuring a respectable dynamic rangemaking the receiver resistant to strong signal overload.

The high sensitivity is also matched by that of the S-meter: The calibrated S-meter shows the received signal levels in dBm, µV or S-units, down to the receiver noise floor. The IF bandwidth of the receiver is continuously adjustable from 1Hz to 15kHz, in 1 Hz steps.

Several WR-G315i receivers can reside in a single PC (as many as there are free PCI slots), which provides an ideal solution for high-performance multi-channel surveillance and monitoring systems.

As the last IF and demodulation processing are entirely software-defined, this means that additional demodulation or decoding modes can be easily added by a mere software change.

In addition to audio recording, the receiver can also record a 20 kHz wide spectrum at the IF level, making it possible to thoroughly analyze a signal, and experiment with extracting a weak signal with different filter settings for the best reception.

Apart from the antenna and audio leads, there are no other interface or power supplies cables - no clutter on your desk. Every modern desktop computer can be converted into a powerful RF monitoring station with minimum fuss.

Wide FM Option (G315/WFM)The G315/WFM option provides the facility to receive wide FM modulation of broadcast radio and TV stations. The IF signal is processed and demodulated in hardware, and digitized at the demodulated audio level.

To order a receiver with an option from above, add the option code(s) to the receiver model number. Options can be mixed together, for example G313i/XR/RO. A range of software options is also available. Please visit our Web site www.winradio.com for up-to-date information about available software options.

Intermediate Frequency Output Option 10.7 MHz (G315/IF1)The G315/IF1 option provides a wideband IF output, involving an additional conversion from the first 109.65 MHz IF down to 10.7 MHz.

Hardware

The PCI card plugs into an available slot of an IBM-compatible PC.There is a single SMA antenna connector and an output line level audiojack which can be used to connect the receiver output directly to a soundcard line-input or an amplified speaker.

The receiver has its own on-board DSP, which performs the final stageIF filtering and demodulation. Additional demodulation or decoding modes can be easily added by a software change.

Software

The WR-G315i software contains numerous advanced features, manytuning and scanning options, virtually unlimited memories and a richon-line help facility.

There are numerous modulation modes, variable IF bandwidth 1 Hz to15 kHz, two spectrum analyzers with 16 Hz resolution, graphicallycontrolled IF shift, notch and audio filter, and noise blanker. The built-in recorder can record and play back demodulated audio as well as the IF signal, which means that it is possible to "re-receive" the same signal again and again with different IF filter bandwidths, notch and audio filter, noise blanking or demodulator settings, to arrive at the best possible reception of a weak or interference-prone signal.

One of the many integrated spectrum analysis functions

The signal test facility can perform various measurements on thereceived signal including frequency accuracy, amplitude modulation depth, frequency deviation, THD (total harmonic distortion) and SINAD.

There is also a unique research and education function making itpossible to explore interactive block diagrams of the software-defineddemodulator, for each demodulation mode, and observe demodulationtaking place on real-time signals using two integrated spectrum analyzers and a vector voltmeter.

Options

External Reference Oscillator Option (G315/XR)The G315/XR option adds an external SMA connector to the receiver board, whichcan be used to connect an external reference oscillator for the highest possiblefrequency accuracy. This external oscillator can be any frequency from 8 to 20 MHz(the user specifies this frequency via software).

Reference Oscillator Output Option (G315/RO)The G315/RO option adds an external SMA connector to the receiver board, whichcan be used to output the internal reference frequency. This is useful for situationswhen the receiver's own internal oscillator is to be used as a reference for otherequipment, or, if an external reference is used, to provide this external referenceto other receivers in a daisy-chain arrangement. If the receiver relies on its internalreference oscillator, this option will provide 16.384 MHz reference output. If anexternal oscillator is used, then the external oscillator frequency will be provided atthis output.

The WiNRADiO WR-G39DDC ‘EXCELSIOR' is a high-performance HF/VHF/UHF/SHF software-definedreceiver with a frequency range from 9 kHz to 3500 MHz,with two independent channels of 4 MHz wideinstantaneous bandwidth available for recording andfurther digital processing, plus a 16 MHz wide real-timespectrum analyzer.

The receiver offers an unparalleled flexibility given itsSDR architecture, respectable dynamic range, highsensitivity, scanning speed and accuracy of performance, making it capable of filling not only the role of amonitoring receiver but also that of a fast search receiverand measuring receiver, with many operational andinstrumentation features not usually found on receivers ofany price category.

The receiver has a robust front-end, which features anup-converter for excellent suppression of mirror images, eliminating a need for complex pre-selector filters whichintroduce distortion and reduce the noise figure.

The WR-G39DDCi is a PCI-e compatible plug-in card tobe fitted inside an IBM-compatible PC.

The WR-G39DDCe is the external receiver version whichconnects to an IBM-compatible PC via the USB port.

Several receivers can be controlled by a single PC toform a multi-channel receiver system.

This is the first time a receiver of such advancedspecification and unique combination of features isbeing offered to the general marketplace.

The receiver is intended for government, military, security, surveillance, broadcast monitoring, industrial and demanding consumer applications.

The WR-G39DDC receiver series represents anexcellent general-purpose mobile and stationarysolution for HF/VHF/UHF/SHF monitoring andsurveillance.

Hardware

The WiNRADiO G39DDC series breaks new ground withits state-of-the-art components. The receiver is very wellshielded against interference, making it possible tooperate in a noisy computer environment.

The external USB receiver is supplied with a low-noiseAC/DC power adapter, whereas the internal PCI-eversion can be powered from the PC’s power supply.

The WR-G39DDC software contains numerous advancedfeatures such as several types of searching andscanning, five types of squelch, many tuning options, virtually unlimited memories and a rich on-line helpfacility.

There are two concurrent DDC channels with 24selectable output bandwidths ranging from 20 kHz to 4MHz. Each can be used as an independent "virtualreceiver". There is is also a simultaneous 16 MHz widereal-time spectrum analyzer.

There are numerous demodulation modes, continuouslyvariable demodulator bandwidth from 1 Hz to 320 kHz (in1 Hz increments), waterfall spectrum analyzers, scanning, searching, logging and task schedulingfacilities, as well as an audio real-time spectrum analyzer, test and measurement functions, noise blankers andnotch filters.

There is also an integrated recorder, making it possible toinstantly record and playback the received signal both atthe IF and audio levels, for both channels. Recordingoffers also pre-buffering feature in order not to lose anytransmission.

The receiver is entirely software-defined, which meansthat additional demodulations or decoding modes can beeasily added by a mere software change.
