Dear Readers

We take a moment to thank our patrons, students, academic partners, alumni placed globally and all those who were part of westford’s incredible journey . It has turned out to be an extremely special moment as were honored by the Forbes - Middle East as one of the best educational institutions in the Middle East.

It remains our greatest commitment to continue oering stellar service, remain growth driven, confident, courageous, cost eective & yet innovative. We continue to lead in areas where we think we know the best and oer the highest value.

As we celebrate a decade of our existence, we have recog-nized the essence of paying back to the society and raising funds through numerous CSR and Charity-centric initiatives such as We Cares a concept that we remain extremely proud of. This moment shall be incomplete without recognizing the contribution of all employees in changing the very definition of what a great student-institution led relationship could encapsulate, by demonstrating ‘ownership thinking’ across all forms of communication and transactions.

The goal within the institution is the heightened spirit of motivation led by the newest recognition bestowed upon us, as we set sail to stamp our presence in geographies beyond the Middle East. It means we will continue to remain passionate in striving hard to attain ‘student satisfaction’, which is no mean task.

Finally, our values and priorities shall be to never belie the faith and trust invested by each of you in our abilities to meet the ever-growing expectations on westford’s quality stand-ards and educational experiences. We remain inspired to create newer benchmarks in the years ahead.

‘Day with Business Leaders & CEO’s’ is an initiative of Westford University College to connect with C-Suite Business Leaders / CEO’s in understanding their success stories while exploring the industry-academia boundaries and stretching further to bridge the gap.

This platform celebrates & collaborates with successful award-winning business leaders and entrepreneurs across domains to interact with Westford students. The core objectives is to oer appropriate guidance from leaders that would eventually help ignite the entre-preneurial spirit in young minds and propel them to explore a world of opportunities.

The fifth edition held on 29th April 2019, witnessed the iconic presence of Mr. Rizwan Sajan, ranked 7th amongst the Top 100 Indian Leaders in the UAE by the Forbes Middle East, a multi-billionaire, noted philanthroper founder and chairman of Danube Group, which occupies ‘numero uno’ position in the building materials segment across the Middle East & GCC region. The students, faculty and the management team members were deeply privileged to have had the rarest opportunity to meet an inspirational leader and a ‘Man on a Mission’, narrating his rags to riches story.

As has been often learnt in several manage-ment disciplines, there is no substitute to hard work, self-belief, grit and determina-tion, Mr. Rizwan Sajan epitomized all these values and left a life-long impression at West-ford University College by humbly responding to a range of questions surrounding his personal life, professional ambitions. The conversation was fielded with humor, adviso-ry and reflections from his own life lessons to quantify that success is always measured by ‘calculated risks’, ‘adequate foresight’, ‘never following the herd mentality’, ‘finding the right mentors’, ‘loads of commitment’ and the ‘right perspectives by discovering one’s unique USP’s’.

Mr. Rizwan Sajan walked us through his early years that began by selling bread, milk, crack-ers and paraphernalia from the age of 14 first for only earning ‘pocket money’ and later having to shoulder family responsibilities upon the untimely demise of his father.

His story is of a middle class boy’s matured journey from Mumbai faceing financial hardships, desperate conditions, humiliation & rejection from his lady love, loss of valuables in the height of Kuwait’s invasion and endless sacrifices….but never losing hope in miracles.

Danube Group rose up from a small trading entity with his wife being the first employee, and as they say rest is history. The legendary ‘Midas Touch’ of Mr. Rizwan Sajan Danube has diversified into property development, publishing and home improvement solutions, recording revenues of US $ 1.3 Bn (FY 2018). A team of 3300 qualified dedicated professionals, operat-ing in over 50 geographies, carrying a portfolio of over 50,000 products and owner to 5.5 million sq ft landbank in Jebel Ali Free Zone showcases the strength of this powerful institution.

Apart from his current role as a Chairman and Founder of Danube Group, Mr. Sajan has been bestowed with numerous accolades in recognition to his contribution that has led to the economic growth and prosperity of UAE. He now prevails across numerous thought leadership programs held by ICAI – Abu Dhabi Chapter.

Zeryab and Imran - MBA - CMU

We would like to thank Dr. Mukul Madahar from Cardi Metropolitan University who kept us motivated, he is our role model. We really admire the two days sessions that was conduct-ed by Dr. Mukul guided us about the entire process in a very eective way which ultimately helped us to start o at a good pace and main-tain the momentum. We would also like to thank our Supervisors who had guided us with the final dissertation since it was really chal-lenging as compared to part 1 assignments.

Overall, we would like to conclude saying that nothing in life is impossible if you work hard and once you achieve your dream you will forget all the pains and will cherish the achievements.

Our MBA journey began on the 4th May, 2017 when we attended the seminar of Dr. Mukul Madahar from Cardi Metropolitan University and Proessor Zawahir Siddique from Westford University College in Holiday Inn, Bur Dubai who truely motivated both of us by sharing their life experi-ences and words of inspiration.

Our first point of contact for admission was Ms. Divya Nair at Westford University. She had briefed us about the entire process of the program. Starting with part 1 which was BTEC EDSML followed by a top up session which was the ultimate MBA program.

While we were taking up our part 1 classes, we were blessed with a baby boy named Muhammad Irtiza by the Almighty. Managing the submission of part 1 assignments on their respective dates, balancing professional and personal life both together was a big challenge. But due to the guidence given to us by Westford fraternity starting with Mr. Sreekanth who was our course coordinator, professors and our parents , who stood behind us in order to make this possible for the both of us.

The UAE real estate market is more transparent now compared to 2016, which assists buyers and sellers to make more informed decisions about their investments. It gives true value of assets for sales or rentals and also gives a sense of security and confidence to investors.

According to JLL’s 2018 Global Real Estate Transparency Index, Dubai maintained its top rating in MENA but improved its international ranking by eight positions to 40. Similarly, Abu Dhabi also jumped four positions to 55 on the 2018 Index.

“The major benefit of improved transparency for consumers is that it improves the level of certainty and allows to make more informed decisions. Improved market information allows better decisions to be made about the true value of an apartment or villa, in the light of evidence of other recent transactions rather than just an owner’s view on what their property should be worth,’’ said Craig Plumb, head of research for Mena at JLL.

“The creation of local third-party databases on performance has also contributed to the total improvement in transparency,’’ he said.

Dubai scored really well on “Listed Vehicles”‚ “Transaction Process”‚ and “Regulatory and Legal” sub-indexes in JLL report with the Emirate becom-ing the third best improving market globally over the past two years.

Also, analysts say that a transparent market means more data is churned out by third-party entities and consultancies, which help consumers to regu-larly and more precisely assess value of their assets.

Globally, steady progress is being made - with 85 per cent of markets showing an improvement in the last two years. However, there is a feeling that the rising expectations of investors, occupiers and the general public are outstripping the real rate of change.

The weather in the UAE in the last 6 months has been incredibly beautiful allowing all its residents to enjoy family barbeques, desert safaris and flaunt their glamourous winter wear that rarely see the light of the day. But as all good things must come to an end, UAE is preparing itself to battle the heat for the next few months. Although, most of us have the luxury of staying in air-conditioned spaces through-out the day, some of us do have to spend considera-ble time outside in the heat. So, how does one look chic and still stay comfortable is a question that crosses our mind quite often. Well! There are a few simple hacks that will help you beat the heat this summer!

Keep it Real - natural fibers such as cotton, linen, bamboo and tencel absorb sweat allow the body to breathe. It is wise to avoid synthetic fabrics, heavily embellished clothes. The lack of embellishments and trims can be compensated by choosing interest-ing patterns, prints and asymmetric silhouettes. Maxi and shift dresses, crop tops, sheer shirts and shorts in lightweight natural fabrics are wardrobe essentials. Avoid denims; but if you can’t imagine life without them, then choose ripped boyfriend or wide leg jeans instead and ditch the skinny.

Shoe Mania – Barely - there strappy sandals, sporty sandals, sculptural heels and clear PVC detailed footwear are big this summer. If you are the adventurous kind, enhance add an animal prints sandal to your footwear collection.

Less is More – Keep jewelry and accessories to a minimum. Heavy, chunky and metallic jewelry are a strict no-no! However, invest in a good pair of polar-oid sunglasses and a wide-brimmed straw hat. These are classics and never go out of style. One must say goodbye to the oversized totes and hobos and go looking for a crossbody or a handbag. Anything too close to the body is going to make you feel hot and sweaty.

Colour Code – Nothing embodies class like white does! One can never go wrong with light pastels as well.

About time you start thinking about the cropped hairstyle you had always wanted, or if you prefer to wear it long, there is nothing an elegant bun can’t fix. Invest in some high-quality waterproof makeup and you are ready to turn this summer on its head.

Ramadan: A Holy Monthof Spiritual Feast fromDawn to Dusk Ramadan is a holy month in the Lunar Calendar where millions of Muslims worldwide abstain from materi-alistic distractions (including food and not just food as widely misunderstood). The month is considered holy for various reasons: historically, spiritually and meta-phorically. This is the month when Quran, the holy book, was revealed to the beloved Prophet. This is the month when devotees abstain from food to stand in solidarity with those who are deprived of food. This is the month when devotees abstain from any overtones of materialistic distractions and be more involved in pursuit of spiritually awakening endeavors. More charity, more prayers, more compassion, more forgiveness in congruence with less anger, less food, less sleep and less procrastination.

In a nutshell, Ramadan is an embodiment of an annual renewal of every devotee’s spiritual reservoir. From dawn to dusk, every devotee is engaged in a spiritual feast seeking innovative ways to be a better human being. This holy month is a unique opportunity to rediscover one’s limitations and strive harder to cleanse the body, heart and soul from every possible hindrance in pursuit of peace, happiness and harmo-ny.

Ramadan is not a month to test the resilience of the biological clock (to fast from dawn to dusk and then break free to feast from dusk to dawn or to indulge in late night prayers and resort to unproductive procras-tination during day time). Ramadan is a test to be at your best in whatever you do with a supreme inner struggle that awakens your spiritual quotient.

Wishing everyone an enlightened and blessed Rama-dan exhibiting a more radiant, compassionate, forgiv-ing, charitable, harmonious and productive month of excellence. May Almighty bless us all in refilling our spiritual reservoirs for the rest of the year in spreading peace, happiness and harmony around us!Ramadan Kareem!

Every convocation at Westford is a special one. All the students are accompanied by their loved ones to receive their certificates. On this day the emotions are high and the eyes sparkle with joy as their names are called upon. During the convocation ceremony, the students are appreciated and motivated for their hard work by their respective faculties and classmates. No convocation is complete without a photo shoot, and that’s the best part to witness as one makes a memory for life. Over the years we have seen hundreds of students pass out and on every convocation, we wish and hope our students do their best in their respective careers and remember Westford as a catalyst in their success.

“Learning is like rowing upstream: not to advance is to drop back.” - Chinese proverb

Every student looks forward to the final day when s/he completes the course and is all set to make a dier-ence in the world. This day in academ-ic is called as the Convocation. We had the convocation for our short course students from various fields such as PG Diploma in Supply Chain, PG Diploma in Healthcare, and PG Diplo-ma in Sales & Marketing.

During my employment with Westford as an Admission Ocer, I was impressed with the culture, environment, and study programs oered. The thing which attract-ed me the most was the flexibility oered in onsite classes specially designed for work-ing professionals. I informed my sister, Sidra, about the program, who was also looking for universities to register to fit her schedule. We both registered together in 2016 for the HND and BABM Top-Up program. The business terminologies I learned, have helped me adapt and perform better at my new work place and I appreci-ate the guidance and feedback provided to us by the teaching faculty at Westford. I am glad that I made the right decision! Infact studying together with my sister was fun, we communicated and motivated each other, and now we are almost done with the entire program. I will definitely recom-mend Westford to my peers!

BABM As the president of the Westford Toastmasters club, my experience has been like a roller coaster ride with many ups and downs. During the early stages of the Toastmasters club, I had no clue what Toastmasters was, however with time everything became much clear. Every week we have our club meeting, at which senior Toastmaster members from dierent clubs around UAE would come and give us tips and tricks about how to excel in Toastmasters.

We had conducted an educational session on ‘Debating’, which turned out to be a great learning experience for me to know the art of debating. Because of this training, I was able to represent Westford Toastmasters in an Interna-tional Area Contest.

Members of the Westford Toastmasters Club, including myself have an excellent time attending Toastmaster meetings. I could see the exuberant vibes amongst my fellow club members, engaging in several topics filled with inspiration and humour. I remember during the early stages of the Toastmasters club, I used to hesitate to speak on stage, but today I and my club members enjoy speaking at club meetings with a lot of enthusiasm.

As the President of the club, I would encourage all the members to come forward and be a part of the Toastmas-ters Club, this is a safe platform for all of us to be a better communicator.

Pursuing Bachelor degree was always on my agenda , however being a mother and working made it dicult for me to register myself in a full-time course. Most of the universities oered evening classes with five days a week for working professionals which was not feasible for me. During my search, I came to know about Westford from my younger sister Aqsa, who had recently finished high school and was hunt-ing for good universities and colleges. She informed me about the flexibility of attending two evening classes for HND and Friday onsite classes for the BABM Top-Up program. The flexiblity in terms of duration of the entire program which inclined me towards Westford, and we both registered together. I am glad I made the decision of pursuing my education with Westford, the flexibility of onsite and online classes, and guidance from the faculty is commendable. The journey has been a roller coaster ride for both of us, work and personal commitments along with assignment submission deadlines, made it dicult for us at times but we are glad we are almost at the finish line. The program is designed according to the trends and changes in the business world, which is ahuge advantage in career growth. To be honest, I was unsure if I will ever be able to complete my Bachelor's degree prior to joining Westford, but now reaching towards the end of the program, I am glad I made the right decision ! With right pedagogy and full assistance to the working professionals at the University , I would definitely recommend Westford to anyone wishing to pursue further education.

So far, the journey at Westford University College has been an amazing ride, and hand on heart the past 8 months have been the best till date. In the span of these 8 months, I’ve gathered so much knowl-edge about the field of fashion and discovered my own skills and abilities, which has really helped me set my career goals in this industry. At Westford, the mix of academics and extracurricular activities is splendid. The faculties and administrators are always helpful and supportive. In the past few months, many opportunities have already come our way; such as industry visits to Swarovski in the Design District and sustainable retail store, Retold. We have also planned and organised two fashion shows for inter college competitions. These experi-ences have helped us gain hands on expe-rience and create life long memories. I can’t wait to make many more such mem-ories and successfully complete my HND in Art and Design. It is a pleasure to be a part of this second home called Westford.

This has been one of the toughest things I have done in a while but the most rewarding one too. I am self-employed and a father of two boys. I have been avoiding this MBA for many years and finally found Westford, who encouraged me to take the leap. I have chosen to attend lectures online twice a week in the evening as that is the only time I had free. The first two modules were tough for me but it was a big eye opener especially after completing two assignments, what an accomplishment ! Westford gave me the drive to keep going, the lectures were engaging and professors were well fit to the topics although you had to do lot of self learning to wrap it up. Im am very glad I have chose Westford as it gave me the motivation and drive to keep learning as well as grow my own business.

Divya Nair Admissions - Manager

Westford has been my second family since I joined in 2012 and I’ve watched it grow and thrive over these years. It oered me a unique opportunity to gain foothold in a new country as well as gaining professional experience within a stimulating industry. The best part of working at Westford is that there are no limitations to what you can achieve if you truly commit to having the passion to make it happen. There is certainly a rare energy from the top down that is contagious and a synergy that crosses the company laterally. As a company, people like working with us because we are honest, we don’t cut corners, and give our very best to each other and to our students.

Long story short, Westford took a chance on me. With my little background in the education industry, they saw something I didn't even see in myself. That initial opportunity has turned into a seven-year career.

WESTFORD at JASHN, 2019Inter-College Fashion ShowCompetition

The fashion show organized by BITS Dubai to celebrate their annual event Jashn was yet another experience for us, where the outfits and ramp walk showcased our crea-tive vision and our bold and confident strut. Dominating the stage with the theme of zodiac signs, we designed 12 outfits based on symbols, elements, meanings and personality of each zodiac sign. Passing a stressful but exhilarating short period of preparation time, our zeal kept us motivated, working continuous days and nights. It would not have been possible without teamwork, cooperation, and brainstorming ideas and solutions at times when things went wrong. Thanks to the diverse

skills and talents amongst the team members, we were able to support each other and share inspiring ideas and perspectives. It was never about winning or losing but about making memories and having a slight glimpse of what lay ahead of us. We were there to enjoy and present a piece of our creativity to the design fraternity. It was about giving our best that mattered and nothing else. It was extremely gratify-ing that we had this opportunity to present our work in front of such a large audience who appreciated our eort. The feeling of being up on that stage was priceless.

We all wish to take a break from our routine life and enjoy some quality time with our family and friends. This summer break we decided to visit Switzerland the place I have loved the most. The scenery in the country was mar-velous, the air was fresh and we enjoyed the cool breeze.

From breathtaking scenery to an amazing public trans-port system, it is a heaven for anyone who is passionate about travelling. We did not rent a car there as the coun-try is well connected through trains and trams.

Switzerland is one of the busiest tourist country in the world, but even then its quiet calm, soothing and very serence. It is famous for its numerous villages and high Alps.

High mountain peaks were covered in snow, which made it even more attractive. The Jungfraujoch mountain peaks known as ‘the roof top of Europe’, is one of the most famous peaks in the world.

Another amazing facts about this country is securi-ty and the variety of food and beverages ranging from cheese, yoghurt, butter to the world famous swizz cheese. Well, the chocolates of Swiss requires a special mention – they are simply amazing!

All these and many more make Switzerland the most beautiful and must visit country in the world. No doubt Switzerland is a great place to visit.

“All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy!” this adage marks the spirit and enthusiasm of Westford students who aims at excelling not just at academics while also exhibit active participation at extra-curricular activities. Westford University College aims at providing holistic development of students by providing them with abundant opportunities to showcase their talents at various platforms. To keep this legacy strong, amidst the busy academic schedules, West-fordians presented magnificent dance performances at JASHN, 2019, organized by BITS Pilani Dubai on April 16, 2019. Our HND students presented spectacular dance performances on Eastern and Western themes. The group of girls presented Punjabi folk dance to represent the “East-ern” theme, while other group of students took the crowd on their feet by showcasing the performance on contempo-rary Spanish songs under the “Western” theme.

The dances were filled with immense vigour. Performances by the Westford students enthralled the audience with their creative choreography and skilled use of beautiful props! Participation in such inter and intra college events is always encouraged by the Institution. Westford firmly believe that a dynamic combination of academic orientation and creative talents prepare students for real-world challenges!
