MERLOTMendocino, California

“A textured, savory wine with bold fruit and earthy goodness”

Vintage: 2014

UPC: 8-9465500122-8

Vineyards & Winemaking: This Merlot comes from grapes harvested from vineyards southeast of Ukiah in Mendocino, California. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel and then the finished wine is put in a blend of new and used oak for six months prior to bottling.

Taste: Red plum, currants and cedar aromas with a touch of earthy goodness. This wine is medium to full-bodied and impeccably balanced with a firm texture and a long, savory finish. Pour a few glasses alongside slow grilled BBQ beef ribs or wild mushroom risotto.

Notes: For some, Merlot has become the black sheep of the wine world prompting connoisseurs everywhere to turn up their nose at its mere mention. Those times have come and gone, however, and much of the sub-par Merlot that prompted its decline has been banished from the vineyard. What’s left is the good stuff, and this wine is a great example.

BIG RED BLENDLodi, California

“A hugely popular red blend that’s big on flavor without the big price”

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-1087902010-4

Vineyards & Winemaking: Between the big city and majestic mountains sits Lodi--California’s small town answer to big-time flavor. This wine is a blend made of Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Tannat and Souzao. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged in a blend of concrete and oak for 6 months.

Taste: This wine is reminiscent of the field blends made by California’s pioneering winemakers. Big aromas of cassis, blackberry, and plum with traces of vanilla and cedar. Textured, full-bodied and larger than life, you may just have to stretch out your mouth for that first sip.

Notes: These days, most of the popular red blend labels you see are various wine companies’ solution for having too much Merlot, Syrah or Zinfandel in their tanks. Just get the grapes real ripe, blend them together and leave a good dose of residual sugar. Rather than follow this model, we instead sought out high quality wine made from old vines in the heart of Lodi (and the Sierra Foothills). We think it’s a better red blend.

CABERNET SAUVIGNONRed Hills, Lake County, California

“High-elevation Cabernet from one of California’s fast-growing appellations”

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-1087902019-7

Vineyards & Winemaking: Harvested from a vineyard of red volcanic soil at an elevation over 2,000 ft, this is true high-elevation Cabernet. The grapes are crushed and fermented in stainless steel and then undergo approximately 8 to 10 months of oak-aging before bottling.

Taste: Impeccably focused and tightly composed with fresh black currant flavors and a long, satisfying finish. This is a wine to serve with grilled lamb chops, or pizza with arugula, eggplant and mozzarella.

Notes: The Red Hills rise from California’s Clear Lake where vineyards climb to over 2,000 feet. On these hills, cooler temperatures combine with the warm California sunshine to produce exquisitely balanced Cabernet Sauvignon with a generous aroma and classictexture. As good quality, reasonably priced Cabernet Sauvignon becomes hard to find in Napa, Sonoma and even Mendocino counties, the Red Hills of Lake County hasattracted the attention of California’s top wineries.

Central Coast, California

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-9465500109-9

Vineyards & Winemaking: The grapes that go into this Pinot Noir come from coastal vineyards in Monterey and Edna Valley. After careful picking and sorting the wine was fermented in stainless steel. A third of the wine was aged in French oak for 9 months.

Taste: Ruby red in color with fresh black cherry and berry aromas, a cool minerality and savory notes of clove land camphor.

Notes: Probably more than any other wine grape, Pinot Noir has a personality. Just like humans reveal their roots in the way we talk, the food we eat, and the teams we cheer for, Pinot Noir makes its origin known in the variety of aromas and flavors it possesses. California Pinot Noir is more outgoing. Its youthful spirit is captured in its lively aromas congenial nature. If this California Pinot Noir were a person, it’d be the kind you’d want to have a beer with.

CHARDONNAYMendocino, California

“A brilliantly fresh and textured cool-climate California Chardonnay”

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-1087902030-2

Vineyards & Winemaking: If you’re looking for high-class wine made by down to earth people, then Mendocino is your place. This Chardonnay is grown along the shores of the Russian River as it winds its way toward the Pacific Ocean. A cool fermentation preserves this wine’s aromatic orchard fruit, and partial barrel aging gives it a creaminess that won’t quit.

Taste: Brilliant yellow gold in color with aromas of green apple and white peach backed by a touch of honey. The wine is round, full-bodied and fresh with an elegant creamy texture and a tangy finish. Serve with a crab and avocado salad topped with cilantro and lime, or grilled chicken with a lemon and caper sauce.

Notes: Mendocino is often overshadowed by its famous neighbors to the south. But the Chardonnay that is coming from Mendocino is equally delicious. Chardonnay from this area tends to have more freshness due to the slightly cooler climate, especially in and around Anderson Valley. These wines also tend to take less oak than the riper tropical style ofChardonnay from Napa.

CABERNET CARMENÉREValle de Maipo, Chile

“A dynamic Bordeaux blend from the Southern Hemisphere”

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-1087902030-2

Vineyards & Winemaking: The Cabernet Sauvignon is hand picked from alluvial soils in the Maipo Valley. The Carmenere is selected from clay soiled vineyards in the Colchagua Valley nearly a month later. The wine is aged in a blend of French and American oak for 9 months.

Grapes: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Carmenere

Taste: Dynamic aromas of black cherries and raspberries, along with more subtle flavors of fresh herbs and spices. Luxurious dark fruit is laced together with swanky tannins that lead to a long, smoky roasted red pepper finish. If there is one perfect fit for braised short ribs or a tangy curry, this wine is it.

Notes: Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere were both members of the original six red Bordeaux varieties, but unlike Cabernet, Carmenere never really returned home after the phylloxeraplague in Europe. This red blend is the perfect reunion of these old friends from theMedoc, showing off their colors in a truly Chilean way.

“A hidden gem in the 90+ Cellars lineup; a true over-deliverer”

Vintage: 2014

UPC: 8-1087902043-2

Vineyards & Winemaking: This red blend is Northern Spain’s version of a Super Tuscan, but here Temranillo plays the starring role. The wine is partially fermented in French oak, aged in new barrels for a year, and then kept another year in bottle before release.

Grapes: 40% Tempranillo, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 5% Graciano

Taste: tampeding aromas of luscious blackberries, plums and currants run alongside a frenzy of anise and cocoa. Once imbibed, a menage of tantalizing brambly flavors soars over a jamboree of savory spice and sweet plum fruit.

Notes: This region truly represents a convergence of different cultures and geography, connecting Aragon, La Rioja, the Basque Country and Aquitaine France, giving this unusual blend a sense of place. Massive bang for the buck!

MOSCATO D’ASTID.O.C.G. Italy

“A crisp, balanced and tastefully sweet Moscato with a light fizz and perfumed aromas”

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-9465500197-6

Vineyards & Winemaking: Made from Moscato Bianco grapes harvested from vineyards around the town of Asti in northwestern Italy’s Piemonte. The juice of the newly pressed grapes is filtered, chilled and stored as unfermented grape must. Fermentation happens only when the wine is ready for consumption, ensuring freshness and aromatic delicacy. Moscato d’Asti is one of the only sparkling wines that only undergoes a single fermentation, which is stopped when the wine reaches an alcohol around 6%. This results in a fresh, floral, and fizzy wine with a good dose of sweetness.

Taste: Playfully effervescent with notes of sweet, juicy peach and fragrant honey. A crisp and balanced wine that will woo everyone in your crew. When it’s time to unwind, there’s no sweeter sip than this Moscato.

Notes: Moscato has enjoyed some resurgence as of late, but primarily in the form of cheap, inexpensively made sticky sweet wines made on an industrial scale from high yielding vines. Those wines are not Moscato d’Asti. First, Moscato d’ Asti should not be confused with “Asti”. Asti is a fully sparkling wine, while Moscato d’Asti is a delicate wine with a slight fizz and perfumed aromas of flowers, citrus and honey. This is a fresh dessert wine with low alcohol, and big flavor.

Lodi, California

“A smooth and robust Zinfandel with expressive red fruit, floral aromas and a touch of spice”

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-1087902058-6

Vineyards & Winemaking: The town of Lodi sits in the middle of California’s vast central valley. Zinfandel vineyards fan out around the town on soils deposited by rivers running from the Sierra Nevadas to the Pacific. The berries are picked, destemmed, crushed and fermented in stainless steel with regular pump overs. After fermentation is complete the wine is matured for 8 months prior to bottling.

Taste: Bright purple in color with expressive red fruit, floral aromas and a touch of spice. The wine is medium to full bodied, weighty and smooth, like a bowling ballon a silk pillow.

Notes: Lodi is one of California’s oldest commercial vine growing regions, dating back to the 1850s. Walk through the vineyards today and you will stumble upon thickly twisted 100 year-old vines that pre-date prohibition.

ZINFANDEL

SHIRAZMcLaren Vale, Australia

“A full-bodied and juicy Shiraz from one of Australia’s premier wine regions.”

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-9465500155-6

Vineyards & Winemaking: Once famous for its iron-rich reds, the small rural town of McLaren Vale is back on the map producing blockbuster Shiraz. The grapes are cultivated from vineyards on the coast of South Australia. Here the Mediterranean climate helps to ripen the grapes slowly to produce gutsy red wines. This results in a wine that displays the perfect balance of color, fruit and spice.

Taste: Inky purple in color with aromas of spicy dark fruit and red plums. The wine is sumptuously round and juicy with subtle notes of vanilla on the finish. Enjoy with savory short ribs, hearty beef stews or a juicy cheeseburger off the grille.

Notes: The wines in this region are known for yielding high alcohol, but that doesn’t mask the depth and complex flavor these wines take on. However, what is interesting about Australia is that there is less maritime/coastal cooling influence than in other wine regions like California and Chile. This is mostly due to the fact that the oceans off the coast of Australia are warmer. The trick in Australia is site selection. There are pockets of vineyard area that are cooled a little by the coast or by elevation that helps the grape achieve better balance.

CHARDONNAYCalifornia

“A brilliantly fresh and textured, cool-climate California Chardonnay ”

Vintage: 2017

UPC: 8-1087902030-2

Vineyards & Winemaking: This wine is made by down to earth people with a standard for producing top of the line Chardonnay. A cool fermentation preserves this wine’s aromatic orchard fruit and it has a creamminess that won’t quit. Here in California the cool coastal climate lends a brightness to the wine with a balance of fresh acidity.

Notes: More and more quality producers are moving towards “California” rather than an AVA because in today’s marketplace price and brand are more important than region, assuming quality remains the same, if not better. This strategy enables producers to maintain quality by sourcing from a larger number of good quality vineyards. Certain premium brands use a tri-county designation, not an appellation, for this reason.

SAUVIGNON BLANCVin de France

“Anything but your basic Sauvignon Blanc, refreshing and mouthwateringly delectable!”

Vintage: 2017

UPC: 8-1087902103-3

Vineyards & Winemaking: Sauvignon Blanc was named after the french term “sauvage” meaning “wild”. If left untamed, its shoots and leaves grow in a frenzy, forming a verdant curtain of perfumed fruits and fronds. The French were the first to domesticate it, transforming its tangled vigor into a lively elegance. Today, Sauvignon Blanc is enjoyed by the millions as simple and refreshing white wine. However, don’t be surprised by this wine’s fragrant feistiness. It’s anything but basic.

Taste: Tropical fruit flavors fill the nose with a touch of wildflowers. Ripe peach notes lead way to a mouth watering finish. Zingy and and fresh, this wine pairs well with fresh lobster and tarragon, or a watermelon, feta and mint salad.

Notes: Outside the regulations of appellation-specific wines, vintners making “Vin de France” wines have more freedom to produce high quality wines that represent the winemakers vision. Formally known as “Vin de Table”, these wines are usually labelled with vintage and grape variety.

SAUVIGNON BLANCNorth Coast, California

“A Sauvignon Blanc with tropical and grapefruit notes that linger.”

Vintage: 2017

UPC: 8-1087902104-0

Vineyards & Winemaking: The hillsides alongside California’s North Coast are scattered with vines that yield some of the state’s best Sauvignon Blanc. Juicy berries are picked from vines and then brought to the winery where they are carefully made into this seductively aromatic white wine with exotic flavors of fresh herbs and wildflowers.

Taste: Crisp and aromatic with generous aromas of papaya, pink grapefruit, and guava. Once tasted, you’ll find a wine with dazzling tropical flavors and an alluring texture. Pair this wine with grilled shrimp, chicken with lemon and herbs, or fresh cheeses and a baguette.

Notes: While this Sauvignon Blanc does have some grapefruit notes, they are much more subtle than those from New Zealand. The climate in California is warmer and the sugars ripen quicker than the flavors so the farmers tend to leave them on the vine for longer so that there are (unattractive) green flavors. As a result, this means the grapes lose their acidity and are frankly fatter and “jollier” than the more crisp and intensely fragrant versions from New Zealand. With lower acidity, this wine’s peachy, tropical flavors really pop!

CHIANTI RISERVAItaly

“A special reserve wine from Tuscany for your everyday pleasure.”

Vintage: 2013

UPC: 8-1087902088-3

Vineyards & Winemaking: The Chianti region of Tuscany extends from the city of Siena in the south to Florence in the north. Between those two cities, vines of Sangiovese grow on high hills where the intense summer heat is kept in check by the cool mountain air. Harvest occurs when the grapes are fully ripe and ready to produce a wine with body, freshness and classic aromas of red cherries, leather and spice.

Taste: Medium garnet red with a touch of crimson. Pouring the wine quickly reveals expressive aromas of dried cherries and fresh flowers along with a mild fragrance of of vanilla, leather and sweet spice. The wine showcases a texture that balances the naturally high acidity of Sangiovese with its ripe red fruit flavors and firm tannins.

Notes: The term “Riserva” is not applied the same way across all wines made in Italy. Specifically forChianti DOCG, use of the word Riserva can only be applied to wines that have matured for two yearsafter the harvest before they are released. Unlike Barolo or Brunello, the appellation requirementsdo not specify a mandatory time in barrel. However, this Chianti matures a minimum of one yearin barrel and another two in bottle. Sangiovese can be highly acidic and tannic when young, and this extra aging allows the wine’s texture to soften and for some of the classicearthy, leathery and spicy flavors of Chianti to emerge.

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-9465500148-8

Vineyards & Winemaking: This Côtes du Rhône comes from the northern area of the southern Rhône. It is made from a blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache grapes, grown on vines that were planted more than 30 years ago. The soils are comprised of clay and silt deposited by the valley’s strong winds. In autumn, the grapes are harvested by hand and fermented by combining destemmed berries with whole bunches of fruit. This method of semi-carbonic maceration results in a wine with expressive berry fruit flavors and a fresh, but smooth texture.

Superiore

“A rare and remarkable red blend from Italy’s esteemed Langhe Hills.”

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-9465500178-5

Vineyards & Winemaking: “Langhe” is a name given to the hills to the north and south of the city of Alba in northern Italy. Blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo and Barbera from Italy’s Piedmont aren’t typical but they are delicious.

Both Nebbiolo and Barbera are widely planted in sub-Alpine hills of the Langhe on soils consisting mostly of limestone, clay and sand. Cabernet Sauvignon is new to the region, and despite some controversy, takes advantage of the long ripening season to produce elegantly scented and well-structured wines. Each variety is fermented separately in a blend of oak, concrete and stainless steel and then aged for one year in a mix of new and one-year-old French oak barrels before blending and bottling.

Taste: Hearty aromas of black currants and cherries with a backdrop of cedar and spice. Full-bodied and forthcoming with an onslaught of ripe, brambly fruit that caresses your palate before melting into a velvety finish. Enjoy with braised lamb shanks, roasted root vegetables and hardaged cheeses.

This one is made from estate fruit picked and sorted by hand, fermented and then aged in Slavonian oak for one year before bottling. It’s a captivating red produced by a family winery with a rich legacy of crafting praiseworthy wines.

Taste: Light crimson in color with an aroma of wild flowers and lush berry fruit. Flavors of ripe red cherry emerge and a touch a touch of spice on the finish.

Notes: Nebbiolo is the grape of Barbaresco and Barolo, some of Italy’s biggest players. These wines have certain age requirements, namely 38 months for Barolo and 26 months for Barbaresco. Nebbiolo d’Alba may be some of the same fruit that is used in these more famous names but without the required aging. This is an opportunity to have a taste of these great wines for a fraction of the price. Plus, it will age for a good 5-8 years. Pour a glass with black truffle and mushroom risotto or filet mignon with a red wine reduction.

Vineyards & Winemaking: From the lofty Piton, or hilltop, of Sancerre, ancient soils of limestone and flint cascade toward the western bank of Loire River. This distinct soil is why Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre has found its way onto the world’s top restaurant wine lists. This is a wine with an aristocratic heritage and a welcoming character.

Taste: Delicate perfume of freshly cut grass with hints of lemon and flint give way to a silken texture and grapefruit-laced finish. Balanced and crisp, this is a wine destined for the finest tables, but happiest among a humble goat cheese topped salad.

Notes: Our Sancerre is one of our most in-demand white wines with a limited number of cases, so don’t miss out. The terroirs in this region of France are well suited to producing top notch Sauvignon Blanc with fresh aromas and flavors and racy acidity.

Vineyards & Winemaking: Chardonnay bunches are harvested from sandy loam soils formed by an ancient sea that emptied into the Pacific Ocean millions of years ago. The grapes are pressed and fermented in stainless steel and then aged on oak for six months.

Taste: Pour a glass and you’ll discover a brilliant golden liquid overflowing with aromas of crisp green apple and pineapple. Take a sip and you’ll find yourself on a trip to crème brulee heaven on the Starfruit Enterprise.

Notes: “Bacchus Loves Hills” is an old saying referring to the Roman habit of planting vineyards on hillsides perched above the flowing waters of nearby rivers. This sloping landscape provided just the right soil to produce ripe, tasty grapes. This remains true today, especially when you combine Chardonnay and the rolling terrain of the Russian River Valley.

Taste: A powerful bouquet of red fruits and strawberries, tied together with wild flowers, stone fruit and minerality. A highly aromatic wine, bursting with freshness.

Notes: For more than 2,500 years humans have been cultivating grapes and making pale, pink wine in the sundrenched, windswept vineyards of Provence. “A fresh, fragrant and velvety Pinot from one of America’s great Pinot Noir regions.”

Vintage: 2016

UPC: 8-1087902077-7

Vineyards & Winemaking: Willamette Vallley Pinot Noir is like the Goldilocks of red wine. Not too heavy. Not too light. Just right. It’s made from Pinot Noir grapes harvested from vines situated in the rolling foothills of Oregon’s Coast Range Mountains. The grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented in small opened-topped tanks with regular punch downs. Once complete, the wine matures in 2-3 year-old french oak barrels for approximately 8 months.

Taste: Rich ruby red in color with aromas of fresh cherries and strawberries rising above a fragrant mix of cinnamon, violets, black tea and cedar. This is Pinot Noir as it should be — beautifully balanced with a long, velvety finish. It’s an ideal red wine to pair up with wild mushroom risotto, whole-roasted chicken with sage and garlic, or a plate of fresh bread and soft cheeses.

Notes: Compared to other American wine regions, the Willamette Valley is small in size, and boutique in nature. If California is high tech glitz, then Oregon is hipster flannel. Oregonproduces just about 2 million cases of wine. Compare that to California’s 265 million.

Vineyards & Winemaking: The vineyards of the Chalone AVA are perched high above the east side of the Salinas Valley in California’s Monterey County. The wine is partially barrel fermented and aged sur lie for up to 9 months in French oak.

Taste: Classically gold in color with fresh apple, pear and tropical fruit aromas rising above softer flavors of honeysuckle, wet stones and cinnamon toast. These crazy flavors come together to make a dry, medium-bodied Chardonnay that’s both smooth and refreshing.

Taste: Deep, glistening ruby in color with pastoral scents of ripe black raspberry and cherry backed by a subtle mix of earth and spice. The wine is medium bodied and expressive with a relaxed freshness and an easy mouthfeel. It finishes with a lingering savory fruit character and delicate sweet spice.

Notes: Despite Oregon’s global reputation for world class Pinot Noir, it is a very young wine region.Unlike Commercial grape growing in Oregon did not start until the second half of the 1900s. “A vibrant white wine from the Langhe Hills of the Piedmont.”

Vintage: 2017

UPC: 8-1087902102-6

Vineyards & Winemaking: Estate grown and hand harvested, this Italian white hails from a father/son duo making wine in the rolling hills of the Langhe. This non-traditional grape varietal thrives in the clay soils of this region. The only white grape native to this area of Piedmont, Nascetta was recently saved from near extinction. Fermented in stainless steel tanks and then let to rest with the yeasts for at least 6 months, this wine bursts with minerality.

Taste: A floral aroma with notes of ripe pears. On the palate expect white peach and exotic fruit flavors erupting with acidity.

Notes: Nascetta is a delicate and sensitive grape with low yields which makes it costly to produce. Other varieties, like Nebbiolo, were more favored by winemakers as more productive and Nascetta became nearly extinct. Left with only a few parcels planted, the grape has held on more so in part to winemakers affection for this aromatic producing wine. Nascetta is pretty resistant to oxidation and therefore after opening a bottle it can be just as tasty on the first day as the second! Pairs well with shrimp scampi, spaghetti with clams, or prosciutto wrapped asparagus.

Vintage: 2013

UPC: 8-9465500144-0

Vineyards & Winemaking: Often called the “King of Wines,” many consider Barolo is thought to be Italy’s greatest wine. It is made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in vineyards south of Alba, in Piedmont. The climate here is influenced by cool air descending from the mountains and warm air from the sea. After a long, slow fermentation this wine is aged for two years in oak and then kept in bottle for another year before release. Although drinkable now, Barolo is one of the longest living wines and can be cellared for decades.

Taste: Garnet in color with a divine mixture of aromas that includes cherries, rose petals, cinnamon and hints of leather. The wine is lean but powerful, and dry but supple.

Notes: Nebbiolo is a challenge to grow, but centuries of farming by local families in Barolohas created an expression of the grape unattainable anywhere else. Barolo is though to be Italy’s answer to Burgundy in its ability to express the intricacies of terroir.
