Preface

1.1 AudienceThe audience for this document is system administrators who are responsible for

the setup and maintenance of Windows servers and associated storage. Readers

should have a working knowledge of Windows and the Dell Compellent Storage

Center.

1.2 Purpose

This document provides an overview of Failover Clustering and additional guidance for the

process of setting up and configuring a Failover Cluster on Windows Server 2012/R2 when

using the Dell Compellent Storage Center.

Configurations may need to vary in customer environments for many reasons, such as individual

circumstances, budget constraints, service level agreements, applicable industry-specific

regulations, and other business needs.

2.1 Overview

Kapil IT solutions infrastructure is designed in such away that it provides the capability to tie multiple servers

together to offer high availability and scalability for business- critical applications , such as MICROSOFT Windows

Server 2012 R2 , File Server, Database Server etc. Windows Server 2012 R2 is installed and configured Active

Directory server clustering , which enables on downtime for the end users and this server is built on IBM Blade

Center. The details of the IBM® BladeCenter® HS22 is a two-socket blade server running the latest Intel® Xeon

processors with 35 GB RAM , 130GB *2 HDD ,SAS is configured with 5*1TB (Raid 1 – 2 TB & Raid 5 – 3 TB). It is ideal

for infrastructure, virtualization and enterprise business applications and is compatible with the IBM BladeCenter H,

E, S, and HT chassis. Present architecture is designed in the following way as listed below with all details -

We are using IBM Blade Center 7870 HS22 for KAPIL IT Solutions infrastructure with Windows

Server 2012 R2 architecture. The server is configured with following applications and services.

1. Windows Server 2012 R2 Active Directory Server ( Primary).

2. Windows Server 2012 R2 Active Directory Server (Secondary).

3. Database Server.

4. Windows Server 2012 R2 DNS (Primary).

5. Windows Server 2012 R2 DNS (Secondary).

6. File Server.

Network Configuration and Installation :-

The devices which are used to configure the Kapil IT Solutions network are listed below

with all the details -

Unified Threat Management (UTM) Appliance with 10 × 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, 10000 Mbps

Firewall Throughput, 1200 Mbps UTM Throughput: Appliance includes Firewall, Bandwidth Management,

Multiple Link Management, VPN & on appliance reporting. This firewall is connected to two ISP proividers

TATA 4Mbps line and AIRTEL 8Mbps line.

L3 Managed Switches with 24 x RJ45 auto sensing 10/100/1000 Ports, 4 x dual personality ports; auto

sensing 10/100/1000 Base-T or SFP; min=0 \ max=4 SFP Transceivers; 2 port expansion module slots;

Power Supply included. This switch is conneccted to firewall and sub divided to connect layer 2 switchs in

different VLAN's (VLAN 2,3,4,5and 6)

L2 Managed Switches with 48 x RJ-45 auto sensing 10/100/1000 ports; 4 fixed Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports; 1

Dual-personality (RJ-45 or USB micro-B) serial console port. This switch is configured many VLAN layers (VLAN 2,

VLAN 3, VLAN4, VLAN5, VLAN6)

Note :-

1. VLAN 2 is configured for EDP department desktop users, DVR's, Biometrix access, Access Control

System.

2. VLAN3 is configured for KAPIL Taxation Services department desktop users.

3. VLAN 4 is configured for KAPIL Power departement desktop users.

4. VLAN 5 is configured for KAPIL Properrty department desktop users.

5. VLAN 6 is configured for Central Office department desktop users and DVR.

Smart Managed POE Switches with 24 x RJ-45 auto negotiating 10/100/1000 PoE ports; 4 fixed Gigabit

Ethernet SFP ports; Supports a maximum of 24 auto sensing 10/100/1000 ports plus 4 x 1000BASE-X SFP

ports, or a combination. This switch is configured in Layer 3 switch , which in turn is connected to wireless access

point for wireless users to connect to the local network. (Laptop and Smartphones).

Advantage of the present Infrastructure :-

Planning :-

For the better usage of the Windows Server 2012 R2 is configured with Active directory services with

backup Server. All the applications are installed on each signal server for easy data recovery for fast

access. Database, FTP, IIS, File Server.

Whats new in Active Directory in Windows Server 2012 R2 ?

In Windows Server 2012 R2, Active Directory has been enhanced with the following value propositions to allow IT

risk management while also enabling IT to empower their users to be productive from a variety of devices:

➔IT administrators can allow devices to be associated with the company’s Active Directory and use this association as a

seamless second factor authentication.

➔Enable users to use single sign-on (SSO) from devices that are associated with the company’s Active Directory.

➔Enable users to connect to applications and services from anywhere with Web Application Proxy.

➔Manage the risk of users working from anywhere, accessing protected data from their devices, with Multi-factor Access

Control and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

Note:-

Important feature of Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 is HYPER- V Technology. The Hyper-V role in

Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 provides software infrastructure and basic management tools that you

can use to create and manage a virtualized server computing environment.

Storage Configuration :-

In the present infrastructure the storage for the KAPIL IT Solution that is configured is NAS and the details

are listed below -

NAS – Network Access Storage

The storage show in the Kapil IT solution infrastructure diagram is yet to procure and which is used to store the

centralized data from all over the branch and easy access to the files and folder share. The DB stroage is to configured in

this stroage unit for high availability and for security reasons.

The present stroge is configured with the following detials given below :-

1. RAID 5 -------------- Configured with 2 TB

2. RAID 1 -------------- Configured with 1 TB

Raid 5 is configured with 2 TB of stoage space

E drive with 912GB and the following data is stored in it.

• FTP Data (Bidpayable offices)

• FTP Legal Cell

• VSS

• Old Server Backup.

Note : Total available space in the E drive is 120GB.

F drive with 912 GB and the foolowing data is stored in it.

• Br_Backup (FTP DataSync)

• ACE Tech Backup

• Web Data

• Web Data Info

• Users Data (VB 280 GB , Dot Net projects 120GB , Design 130GB, PM 70GB)

• Songs & Pics .

No space id available.

Raid 1 is configure with 1 TB storage space.

G drive with 621GB and the followinh data is stored in it.

• KMS (All branches shared folders.)

• MPR

Total space available in this drive is 2GB.

H drive with 309Gb and the following data is atored in it.

• Acccounts

• Cabin Users.

• Old Backups.

• Vm's Backup.

Total space is availbale in this drive is 23 GB.
