CANADA NATIONAL PARKS ADVENTURE Banff National Park Rocky Mountain peaks, turquoise glacial lakes, a picture-perfect mountain town and village, abundant wildlife and scenic drives come together in Banff National Park - Canada’s first national park and the flagship of the nation’s park system. Over three million visitors a year make the pilgrimage to the park for a variety of activities including hiking, biking, skiing and camping in some of the world’s most breathtaking mountain scenery. Banff is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Elk National Park Just 35 minutes east of Edmonton lies a year-round wonderland. Spread a blanket and gaze at a starry sky undiluted by city light or follow the footprints of a bison and learn how this magnificent ani-mal was brought back from near extinction. Elk Island National Park is not only an important refuge for bison, elk and more than 250 bird species, but is also an oasis of calm for day picnickers and overnight campers alike.

Glacier National Park With exceptional alpine scenery and deep valleys filled with an-cient forests, Glacier National Park is a year-round paradise. Scale its heights following trails pioneered by legendary Swiss mountain guides, take a gentle stroll amid moss-draped old-growth cedars or hike through alpine meadows strewn with lichen-covered boulders. After a day’s exploring, sink into an armchair before a roaring fire and steep yourself in the history of Rogers Pass, the final link in the railway that brought Canada together as a nation.

Jasper National Park Extending over 11,000 square kilometres, it is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies and part of UNESCO's Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site. Find your connection to this special place by discovering one or all of our five spectacular regions, exploring our extensive trail network, visiting our famous red chair locations or participating in Parks Canada led programs and events. (Hint: the winter months are pretty spectacular!)

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

Wear Your Smile with Pride

Behold the humble smile! A simple act, but one that carries so many positive effects. It is estimat-ed that it takes fewer than one-third of the facial muscles to smile as it does to frown, so why waste the energy frowning? When we make facial expressions, we're essentially transmitting a packet of information that can be received, read and interpreted by others. The smile is viewed across cultures as a sign of friendliness (Tom Scheve). When we smile we feel how it affects us, as many people have noted: Smile in the mirror. Do that every morning and you'll start to see a big difference in your life (Yoko

Ono). A smile is known to release feel-good hormones in our body. One person put it, “a smile is happiness you'll find right under your nose” (Tom Wilson). So as actor Kenneth Branagh has said, “smile more, laugh more, and don't get so worked up about things.

Some have even said that smiling is also good for our looks! “A smile is like an instant facelift and an instant mood lift,” says Christie Brinkley. It “is definitely one of the best beauty remedies. If you have a good sense of humor and a good approach to life, that's beautiful” (Rashida Jones). And “everyone looks so much better when they smile” (Jimmy Fallon).

A smile is always an important part of a good greeting: A smile is the universal welcome (Max Eastman). Because a “smile is the key that fits the lock of

everybody's heart” (Anthony J. D'Angelo). And as Mother Teresa said, Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.

And don’t forget the effect our smile has on others around us: Your smile will give you a positive countenance that will make people feel comfortable around you

(Les Brown). A smile is the light in your window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside (Denis Waitley). A warm smile is the universal language of kindness (William Ar-thur Ward). And what sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. Scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable (Joseph Addison). Because of your smile, you make life more beautiful (Thich Nhat Hanh).

So let’s heed the following words of instruction: Let my soul smile through my heart and my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich

smiles in sad hearts (Paramahansa Yogananda). Be thou the rainbow in the storms of life. The evening beam that smiles the clouds away, and tints tomorrow with prophetic ray (Lord By-ron). In simpler words, Smile, it's free therapy (Douglas Horton). And that therapy so often works because “most smiles are started by another smile” (Frank A. Clark). Because people will generally respond to a smile in kind – “Show me a smile, and I'll show you one back” (Vanilla Ice).

I’m sure it is true that we shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do (Mother Tere-sa). For “a smile is a curve that sets everything straight” (Phyllis Diller). And so, remember, the nic-est thing you will ever wear is your Smile
