Road Signs Fundraiser and Project The printed road signs have arrived and construction of posts and arms will begin soon. Installation of the signs is planned for this summer. To date, we have received $4,340 in donations and pledges. If you have previously pledged to sponsor a sign, please send in your donation. Our goal is to reach $4500 as the projected cost for the project is $100 per sign for each of the 45 sign locations. It is not too late to donate to the project! If you would like to sponsor a sign for $100 or donate any amount towards the project you may send donations to the address on the back page. Thank You!

Rubber Duck Race Thanks to Sara DeJager for cleaning out the creek race- way and for providing the prizes for the annual running of the ducks on Memorial Day Sunday. All the young contest-ants came away with prizes, big smiles and souvenir ducks. One was heard saying “I can’t wait to come here next year for this!” As one spectator commented, all these smiles and fun... without any electronics.

June is Yard Clean-up Month Mild Winter = High Fire Danger

WVI asks you to set July 1st each year as the target date for having your property cleared of fallen branches and pine needles, and for creating a fire safe perimeter around your cabin and other buildings. Once again, this year there will be open access to the Park Dump every weekend in June for disposal of your natural yard waste. On weekdays, and at all other times the rest of the year, you may gain access to the dump by signing out a key at the NPS Visitor Center.

**IMPORTANT** No plastic trash bags are allowed at the dump! The only materials allowed in the dump are natural yard waste - pine needles and branches. No lumber, household trash or discards of any kind are allowed. No plastic bags! Please make an effort to be in Wilsonia sometime during the month of June to clean your yard and make your cabin and our community FIRE SAFE!

PLEASE use great caution when having a campfire, using the barbecue or any other open flames!

Have a source of water and/or fire extinguisher close by at all times. One small mishap could cause disaster for our

Wilsonia and the surrounding area. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

When did you last check your fire extinguisher and change the batteries in your smoke alarm?

Trek to the Ishi Giant On July 13th, Wilsonians David Doyle and Ty Parkinson will be leading a trek to the Ishi Giant. The Ishi Giant, discovered in 1990, is located in the Kennedy Grove of Giant Sequoias in Kings Canyon National Park. The tree’s base diameter rivals that of the General Sherman tree, and by mass, it ranks as the 13th largest of the Giant Sequoias. The Ishi Giant is characterized by its massive base, flying buttresses and considerable burn scarring. Since the tree is remote and not accessible by trail, the hike is geared for the experienced and hearty mountaineer. More information about the meeting time, place and the particulars of the hike will follow online (Facebook and webpage) and will be posted on the bulletin board.
