Wednesday, February 3, 2021 Clark County Courier 10 “Colorful, student driven art project” “Make each day your master- piece,” is the message put up over the wings art project at the Willow Lake School. “It was a fun art project where the kids took control,” stated art class distance learning monitor Melissa Terhark, who oversees the classroom for distance learning art teacher April Rusche of De Smet. “It turned out to be a very colorful student driven art project,” contin- ued Terhark. “We put it up in the hallway by the front office, so all of the elemen- tary will walk by it as they go to lunch.” The idea behind it, is a photo opportunity where one can put up their arms to look like they actual- ly have wings of their own as they stand in front of the artwork. Art III students at WLHS are McKenzie Kretzschmar, McKen- na Kretzschmar, Erica Juntunen, Ky Castle and Duane Pedersen. They acquired the help from Willow Lake’s K-5th grade students to col- or in the feathers, so it turned out being a real collaborative art proj- ect in the end. “We will leave it up for while to make sure all of the students get a chance to have their picture taken with a wingspan,” stated Terhark. “It’s up to the teachers on how and when they will be doing that, but we will make sure it’s up long enough for everyone to be able to take their turn.” The two big wings are connected at the center. One stands in front of the connecting piece with arms outstretched and up to get the full effect. “The ‘wings on the wall’ will be there for a while yet,” ended Ter- hark. By the end of the school day last Friday, a pair of colorful wings, for photo opportunities, ended up on the hallway wall of the Willow Lake School. The wings project ended up being a collaborative project with K-5th grade students helping color in the feath- ers constructed by Art III students. Art students above by the finished project, left to right are, Duane Pedersen, McKenzie Kretzschmar, Erica Juntunen, McKenna Kretzschmar and Ky Cas- tle. Burke contributed six rebounds and five assists. Haley Winter had 13 points, Har- ley Hennings 10 and Emma Ha- mann nine for the Cardinals. Hen- nings also snared four rebounds. Said Cyclone head coach Sam Williams of the victory, “I think the story of this game was our shooting offensively.
