    Communication and LanguageWe will develop the language we use forcommunication by sustaining attentive listening,responding to what we have heard with relevantcomments, questions or actions. We will enjoylistening to and using spoken and written language,and readily turn to it in our play and learning. We willextend vocabulary, especially by grouping and naming,by exploring the meanings and sounds of new words.We will develop our confidence to speak to others

    about their own wants and interests. 

    MathematicsWe will use the context of the garden centre, plants,flowers and butterflies to support our number work.We will use familiar objects and common shapes tocreate and recreate patterns and build models anduse mathematical language to describe solid (3D)objects and flat (2D) shapes. We will continue todevelop our knowledge of numbers and our ability torecognise, count, order, write and use numbers upto 20. We will use the vocabulary involved in addingand subtracting. We will also look at capacity andweight and order items by these factors.

    Physical DevelopmentIn our weekly P.E session and when outside we willgain more control over an object pushing, patting,throwing, catching or kicking it. We will talk aboutthe importance of keeping healthy, and those thingswhich contribute to this and begin to recognise thechanges that happen to our bodies when we are

    active. In the classroom we will handle tools,objects, construction and malleable materials safelyand with increasing control and use a range of smalland large equipment.

    This half term Willow Class will become‘Willow Tree Garden Centre’ and the

    children will become gardeners! We willbe working for Regina Flowerton a

    world famous explorer. She will need usto set up a new garden centre here. 

    Personal, Social and Emotional DevelopmentThrough our day to day working, circle timesand PSED sessions we will further developour understanding of what is right, what iswrong, and why, discussing consequences.

    We will continue to be interested, excited andmotivated to learn and will encourage eachother to select and use activities andresources independently, whilst alsodeveloping our ability to maintain attention,concentrate and sit quietly which will beactivity appropriate. We will work as part of agroup or class, taking turns and sharing fairly,following rules which have been agreed. Weknow why we do this!

    Willow ClassCurriculum Sheet 

    LiteracyIn daily training we will continue to develop our‘Sounds and Letters’. In our Garden centre we willattempt writing for different purposes, includingrecounts of what we have done, descriptions andinstructions. We will find out about plants, showingan understanding of how information can be foundin non-fiction texts to answer questions aboutwhere, who, why and how, knowing that informationcan be retrieved from books and computers. We

    will share stories including Jasper’s Beanstalk,Titch’s Garden and The Tiny Seed. 

    Expressive Arts and DesignGarden centre workers will respond in a variety of waysto what we see, hear, smell, touch and feel and createconstructions, collages, paintings and drawings. We willcreate flower pictures, models and symmetrical butterfly

    images. We will explore colour, texture, shape, form andspace in two or three dimensions.  We will look at famousartworks which depict landscapes and plants/flowers anddiscuss what we see as inspiration for our own art work.We will use our imagination in art and design, music,dance, imaginative and role-play and stories. 

    Understanding the WorldGardeners in Willow Tree Garden Centre will learnabout how living things grow and change by looking atplants and butterflies. We will find out about, andidentify, some features of living things and events weobserve, showing an awareness of change. We askappropriate questions about why things happen andhow things work, looking closely at plants andbutterflies and comment on similarities, differences,patterns and change. We will find out about and

    identify features in the place we live and the naturalworld.

    We will continue to cook and taste foods linked to ourtopic and other healthy foods too. Please note we areonly able to do this with a voluntary contribution of50p each week. Thank you for your support!
