A Letter From The President

Hello and welcome to Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party!

In 92 seasons, Schenectady Light Opera Company has produced hundreds of musicals, some of which have been reprised multiple times, but we have always strived to find new and exciting pieces of art to challenge our diverse community. I am proud to welcome The Wild Party to our season as a show that has never been performed on our stage.

Though this production represents a specific time in our history, many of the themes are still relevant today and should be at the forefront of our minds. As the world around us changes, we must continue to change with it. However, as we grow, we mustn’t forget the past. We need to continue to reflect and find ways to better ourselves and the world around us. That’s what the new year provides. A chance to look back, reflect on our choices and make a better tomorrow. I wish you all a better tomorrow and welcome you to our family, either as a new member or returning.

As my time as the President of the Board of Directors nears its end, I reflect on what we have accomplished and get excited for what is yet to come. We welcome you to be a part of our family – either on our stage, back stage, in the front of the house, or as a production team member. We are a community of artists that are here to better our community and I welcome you to join us as we fulfill our mission.

As we get ready to announce our new season, I am excited to see what is in store for SLOC. Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you all around the theater again! Also, look for an announcement of our 2019-2020 season line up and the availability of season subscriptions soon!

A Letter From The Director

“We all want something, Mr. Black. We all want something.”

It was this sentiment that grabbed me back in college when I first encountered The Wild Party. This statement, much like the play, is blunt and gets right to the point. My first thought was that this was a huge oversimplification, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized it was correct. Everyone does want something, and what distinguishes us from our neighbors is how far we are willing to go to get it.

I know that on the surface, that may seem like a darker take on life, and I would agree, but I would also agree that it is an honest take on life. When most people think of the 1920’s in America, they think of the “Roarin’ Twenties,” and the prosperity that many enjoyed up until the Stock Market crash. However, there are always those who fall through the cracks, and The Wild Party focuses on those particular people. This eclectic cast of characters is just looking for what they believe is rightfully theirs. They’re after their own escape. Just like you.

This show, and its source material; the 1927 narrative poem of the same name by Joseph Moncure March, are a study in how our actions have consequences. Even though the setting is almost 100 years ago, the themes couldn’t be more relevant. In a world that seems to becoming more and more divisive and unpredictable all the time, stories like The Wild Party endure because they speak to our desire to break free while, at the same time, speaking to our longing for structure and control.

This production has only been possible because of this very talented cast, and my wonderful and very dedicated production team – specifically Dan Galliher, Carolyn Frantz, J.J. Paul, Michael Camelo and Amy Clark. My thanks also go out to the rest of the SLOC personnel, as they have been nothing but welcoming to me during my first show here. As always, I am thankful to my family and friends for continuing to support me as I embark on this crazy journey that is trying to merge art and life. And lastly, I must thank you, the audience member, for coming out to and sharing this with us.

I hope you enjoy the show.

In 1920’s Manhattan, lovers Queenie and Burrs decide to throw a decadent party, inviting a host of dark and fascinating guests. As the long night reaches its climax, jealousy, passion, and violence ensue, and it becomes clear to Queenie that this is an evening that they can never come back from.

Please note the use of live gunshots during this performance.

Huge thanks to Brian, Carolyn, and the rest of the team for being amazing to work with, to the cast, crew, and pit for making my job so easy, to the students in Germantown for being so inspiring, and to family and friends for far more than could ever be written in a biography.

ADRIENNE PARKER (Queenie) attended

the American Musical and Dramatic Academy

in LA for Musical Theatre. After graduation,

she performed with the New Stage Theatre

Company (Hollywood) and walked in LA

Fashion Week for The 16th Bar. Adrienne

worked on the set of Glee (FOX), Austin and

Ally (Disney Channel), Hollywood Heights

(Nick@Nite) and a local short film Wake

Up (Pigsaw Productions). She is extremely

excited to be back on stage and in her first

production with SLOC. “This is for you, mom!”

J.J. PAUL (Stage Manager, Co-Costume

Designer, Property Designer) is very excited

to be back at SLOC. She is an alumna of

Syracuse University where she minored

in Acting. While J.J. is usually performing

on stage, she also works behind the scenes

as an Assistant Director, Stage Manager,

Producer and Costume Designer. Recent stage

management credits include: Urinetown

(SLOC), The Odd Couple (Glove Theater) and

Little Shop of Horrors (Glove Theater). Recent

property design credits include: And the World

Goes ‘Round (NSCP), Urinetown (SLOC) and

The Odd Couple (Glove Theater).

TESSA RIVENBURG (Nadine) is more than

thrilled to be a part of such a nutty cast in

her very first production with SLOC. Before

this wild party, Tessa performed as Muzzy in

Thoroughly Modern Millie, Ronette in Little

Shop of Horrors and Henrietta in All Shook Up.

On her days off, she can be found acting stupid

with her friends and exploring remote middle

eastern towns on Google Earth. Tessa hopes

that you enjoy The Wild Party half as much as

she enjoyed being a part of it.

GREG RUCINSKI (Lighting Designer) has

created over 40 lighting designs for SLOC

including last year’s West Side Story, Jesus

Christ Superstar and Sister Act (TANYS

Outstanding Lighting Design). A SLOC

member since 1979, Greg began as a stage crew

member, stage manager and set designer before

finding his calling with lighting. Greg and his

wife, Sue, met during SLOC’s 1981 production

of Candide and they currently co-chair SLOC’s

High School Musical Theater Awards.

Her main theater home, in recent years, has been Schenectady Light Opera Company. She serves here as an active board member, volunteer and actress. She is proud to say that The Wild Party is her 23rd SLOC production. Favorite production credits include: SLOC’s Shrek, Footloose and Spamalot. She would like to give all her love and thanks to her friends and family. Without them this would not be possible.

KELLY SIENKIEWICZ (Kate) is elated to be returning to SLOC after last season’s Curtains (Niki Harris) and Cabaret (Lulu). Favorite credits include Young Frankenstein (Inga), Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins), Jekyll & Hyde (Lucy), The Marvelous Wonderettes (Missy), Heathers (Heather Chandler), Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey) and Legally Blonde (Elle Woods). She wishes to thank the production team for their support. Kelly dedicates her performances in memory of her mother, Kathleen, who inspired her love of theatre.
