A Word from the President Mike Williams

As we move through August and into September I am quickly reminded how busy things get this time of the year. Our Meet the Breeds event is rapidly approaching on September 1st at noon at Century II. I encourage each of you to bring your breed to our event and share your knowledge of your breed with the general public. Help them to find the right dog for their particular situation.

My own son recently benefited from Microchips. Microchips work. Most people who lose a dog want their dog back. In this case a couple picked up a dog from the Humane Society that was handicapped and then dumped the dog out on K42 highway. My son took the dog in and has given him a loving home. He contacted the people and visited with the guy who dumped the dog. Because he had a chip my son was able to find out which vet took care of him and all about his shot records and was able to get him up to date. So please come help us at the Microchip clinic on Sunday, September 23rd, at noon and encourage your friends that if they have not gotten their dogs chipped to make a reservation with Tom Chase to do so. The Chip Clinic starts at 1:00 PM and will end at 4:00 PM or until we are out of chips.

We have a lot of activity going on at our facility. Right now AKC Scent Work classes are being held. Love on a Leash will be using the facility, and then our Confirmation Classes start up on September 20th.

Tom Chase came by one day on his noon hour and discovered the breaker had tripped in the electric box and this is why the air conditioner was not working to cool the training room. After he reset the breaker the AC worked fine. Thank you, Tom, for checking this out and fixing the problem.

WKC Member’s Brag From Patricia Holmes: Ricketts Game of Chance, aka Roulette, Friday, August 17, took a 3 point major to become within 1 point of being a Champion. Saturday in Topeka, KS he went WD and BOW in regular show to be a Champion. I could have never done this without the expert handling of Alyssa Mosley. She is a gifted dog person. Thank you all that led me to her. To add to Rou's glory in the Shar Pei specialty in Topeka today he was moved up to BOB and took a Select over two Champions. Roulette, you are such a Champion! I love you, son. Patricia Holmes

Microchip Clinic Volunteers Needed

Planning is going well for our September 23rd Microchip Clinic. We have two vets who have graciously offered to give up a precious weekend afternoon to help us out.

We still could use a few more volunteers; so if you are able to help, please let Tom Chase know ([email protected]). We’ll have lunch available for volunteers starting at noon, with the clinic running from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

A Word from the President Continued

***Our board is working hard to bring AKC Scent trials, barn hunts, CGC testing, and other events to our spring dog show. This is going to require a change in our by-laws which means we will need each member to vote on these changes. The proposed by-laws changes have been approved by our Board of Directors, and the text of the changes will be sent out to all members in the next few days. I encourage each member that reads this to please make every effort to attend our meeting on September 17th and help us bring these much needed events to our spring shows. We will need a 2/3rds vote of the members attending the September 17th meeting to change these by-laws.***

Our annual picnic is planned for Sunday, October 7, at 2:00 PM. Games are planned to start at 2:00 with dinner served at 5:00 PM. Please come join in the fun this year. This is a great opportunity to get caught up with everyone on what all have been up to all summer long. Share the wins you have had at dog shows and eat a great meal.

Our newsletter is one of our main sources of getting information out to our members. I know we have Facebook, but many of our members do not DO Facebook. YOU have to initiate wanting to see what is on Facebook. When you receive our newsletter via e-mail, you are one click away from reading all that is happening with your club. I say “your club” at times and “your board of directors,” because that is what it is. It is not any one individual’s club. It is just as much your club as mine. I also want to remind each of you that our board meetings are open to our members. You are most welcome to attend our board meetings. There are lots of decisions made and planning done at these meetings. The board meetings are held the last Wednesday of every month at 6:00 PM at our WKC board meeting room. They general last on an average of about an hour and half. And if you want something brought up at a board meeting, by all means e-mail me, and I will get it on the agenda: [email protected] Or call me at 316-655-6494.

My thanks to each of you for your support of our club all year along and at our show each spring.

Mike

We have a lady that has stepped up and said she will coordinate CGC testing at our spring dog show, and we will have an eye clinic at our spring dog show. Mike will inquire about bringing a semen collection vendor.

Purina Pro Plan Club Weight Circle Program

As of July 31, 2018 the Purina Pro Plan Club Weight Circle program was terminated. Leanne Chase has been collecting weight circles for the past couple of years and has sent in the last ones that were turned in to WKC. WKC should be credited with approximately 21,000 points in total. What are we going to do with these points? The original plan by the organizers of this program was to raise funds for WKC. Once Leanne receives confirmation of the credit, she plans to present to the WKC board items to be potentially purchased with the funds for the spring show silent auction. Thank you to everyone who has donated weight circles to WKC in the past.

WKC members can submit receipts for Purina dog food and receive credits for purchases through Purina’s new Receipt Submission plan: What is Receipt Submission? Receipt Submission is a fast and easy method to receive points in your account. When you purchase participating Purina pet food products, simply take a picture of your receipt with your phone or scan it into your computer and submit it online for approval and point issuance. Should I start submitting receipts now? Yes! Receipt Submission has officially begun. We are no longer accepting weight circles. The deadline to submit weight circles was July 31, 2018. Do I have to register to participate in Receipt Submission? Yes, registration is required so that we track the receipts that you upload. You can register today by logging in to Pro Club. Do I have to agree to Terms of Service to participate in Receipt Submission? Yes, you must agree to the Terms of Service just as you always have as a member of Pro Club. What is the benefit of this to me? With Receipt Submission, just purchase your participating Purina pet food products, snap a picture of the receipt, and submit it to Purina. You will receive your points within a few days instead of the 3-5 weeks it took with weight circles. What if I need help figuring out the new Receipt Submission process? There are many tools available to help you better understand the process of Receipt Submission, and Purina Member Services Group is available to walk you through the process. As always, they can be reached at 1-877-PRO-CLUB (1-877-776-2582) between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm CT, Monday through Friday.
