NOS.: (632) 535-4997, (632) 494-6249 FAX NO.: (632) 535-4997 EMAIL: [email protected] WORK INSTRUCTION FOR MAGNETIC PARTICLE EXAMINATION 1.0 Purpose This procedure delineates the requirements for the performance of Magnetic Particle (MT) Inspection by Centrotest Asia Inc. personnel who are qualified and certified to perform MT inspections, and to ensure that inspected items comply with specified codes and standards. 2.0 Scope This procedure applies to Magnetic Particle inspection activities performed by NDT personnel on items specified under a specific code or procedure. 3.0 Definitions Inspection – A phase of quality control, which by means of examination, testing, observation, or measurement determines the conformance of materials, supplies parts, components, appurtenances, systems, processes, or structures to predetermined quality requirements. Magnetic Particle (MT) Examination – A Non-destructive Examination (NDE) method utilizing magnetic leakage fields and suitable indicating materials to disclose surface and near-surface discontinuity indications. Testing- The determination or verification of the capability of an item to meet specified requirements by subjecting the item to a set of physical, chemical, environmental, operating conditions. 4.0 Responsibilities Technical Manager - It is the responsibilities of the Technical Manager to ensure only those personnel who meet the requirements of this procedure are permitted to perform inspections/activities covered by this procedure. Personnel performing inspections shall be qualified and certified. MT Inspection Personnel - Personnel certified to Level I, II, or III may perform the examination described herein and record the results of that examination. Personnel performing MT testing shall wear appropriate safety and protective equipment during testing. PAGE 1 OF 2

    5.0 Equipment and Materials 1. Magnetizing equipment may be permanent magnet. 2. MAGNAFLUX WHITE CONTRAST PAINT WCP2 3. MAGNAFLUX PREPARED BATH 7HF 4. Solvent Cleaner (SKC-S)

    6.0 Surface Preparation The surface of the part to be examined shall be essentially clean, dry, and free of contaminants such as oil, grease, loose rust, loose sand, loose scale, lint, thick paint, welding flux, and weld spatter.

    7.0 Testing Procedure a) Clean the surface using SKC-S prior to Magnetic Particle Examination. b) Spray white contrast paint (WCP-2) in the test surface. c) Magnetize the test specimen/ sample and apply the prepared bath (7HF). d) Evaluate indications using white light with recommended lighting intensity. e) Demagnetize after evaluation. f) Post Cleaning.

    8.0 Acceptance Criteria

    a) The acceptance standards for the interpretation of items inspected shall be the customers requirements

    or the contract document. b) If no customer requirements or contract document are available, the international specification or code

    relevant to the scope of work shall be used. 9.0 Documentation

    For each examination, the following information shall be recorded:

    a) Procedure identification b) Magnetic particle equipment and type of current. c) Magnetic particles(visible or fluorescent, wet or dry) d) Examination personnel identity and qualification level. e) Record of Evaluations f) Material thickness g) Lighting equipment h) Date of examination.
