For the fifth show in our 12th season of radical theatre, were just crazy enough to present the Western New York debut of WHY TORTURE IS WRONG, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM a play as wonderfully deranged as its titleby the master of in-yoh-face comedy Christopher Durang. A recent addition to Durangs relentless barrage of anti-mainstream farces, this gleeful tornado of sacrilege magically finds a way to piss on every shred of American hypocrisy under the sun.

Central character Felicity (Andrea Andolina) is having one of THOSE days. One of those days where she wakes up from a possible ruffies-induced blackout to find shes been married to a psychopathic ex-con with possible terrorist connections (Michael Votta) by an ex-drug dealer priest who makes pornos on the side (James Cichocki). Yeah, one of THOSE days. Meanwhile her gun-tottin father (Victor Morales) is busting out his S&M gear as he and his fellow Tea Party fanatics torture random civilians in the name of the Constitution while slipping in and out of Looney Tunes impersonations. And thats just the beginning of the insanity in this deliriously off-the-wall gender-bending misadventure. Truly a SUBVERSIVE comedy that you wont find anywhere else.

That's only the beginning of the insanity in this deliriously off-the-wall farce by the King of in-yoh-face comedies himself, Christopher Durang. This recent addition to Durang's unrelenting barrage of fiercely-ANTI-mainstream spoofs takes us on a wild and crazy misadventure where the Irish top Homeland Security's watch list, Elmer Fudd is out to avenge 9/11, and Hooters is the last refuge of sanity before the coming terrorist apocalypse.

It's a bit like Stephen Colbert meets John Waters....and they anally rape Quentin Taratino while Bugs Bunny fondles Michael Moore's testicles. Truly, a SUBVERSIVE comedy you won't find anywhere.

Acclaimed theatre artist Thomas LaChiusa returns to Subversive Theatre to direct this lampoon with a harpoon, an outrageous tornado of sacrilegethat miraculously finds a way to piss on every piece of Americana you could dream of. The cast features several other Subversive favorites that we're thrilled to welcome back to the Manny Fried Playhouse including Andrea Andolina, Michael Votta, Victor Morales, and Becky Globus, as well as newcomer James Cichocki.

Drag artists Christopher Standart and Mike Seitz add a wonderfully campy twist in the most preposterous Hooter's outfitsyou've ever seen.

Behind the scenes, our kamikaze endeavor features lighting design by Subversive Theatres Founder & Artistic Director Kurt Schneiderman, set design by Subversives Associate Producer Michael Lodick, costume design by Christopher Standart, and sound design by the director himself.

WHY TORTURE IS WRONG, AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM runs March 27th April 12th with performances Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m. No show Easter Sunday (April 5th), but there is one bonus performance on Saturday, April 4th at 2pm. Tickets are $25 general admission or $20 for students, seniors, and Subversive Theatre Members. As always, admission for all Thursday shows is pay-what-you-can.
