17 “But God does not use His grace to make His law of none effect, or to take the place of His law. . . . God’s grace and the law of His kingdom are in perfect harmony; they walk hand in hand. His grace makes it possi- ble for us to draw nigh to Him by faith. By receiving it, and letting it work in our lives, we testify to the validi- ty of the law; we exalt the law and make it honorable by carrying out its living principles through the power of the grace of Christ; and by rendering pure, whole- hearted obedience to God’s law, we witness before the universe of heaven, and before an apostate world that is making void the law of God, to the power of redemption.” (R.H. 1896. 9. 15) After being strangers in servitude a strange land for four hundred years, the Israelites were redeemed by God through the blood of Christ. Then through the experiential religion in the path from Egypt to Canaan, God tried to teach the history of the great controversy to reach unto the perfec- tion through Christ. But a distinction is made between the two classes that are brought forth. “All that are in the graves shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrec- tion of damnation.” John 5:28, 29. They who have been “accounted worthy” of the resurrection of life are “blessed and holy.” “On such the second death hath no pow- er.” Revelation 20:6. But those who have not, through repentance and faith, secured pardon, must receive the penalty of trans- gression—“the wages of sin.” They suffer punishment varying in duration and inten- sity, “according to their works,” but finally ending in the second death. Since it is impossible for God, consistently with His justice and mercy, to save the sinner in his sins, He deprives him of the exis- tence which his transgressions have for- feited and of which he has proved him- self unworthy. “In consequence of Adam’s sin, deathpassed upon the whole human race. Allalike go down into the grave. But a distinction is made betweenthe two classes that are brought forth. “Allthat are in the graves shall hear His voice,and shall come forth; they that have donegood, unto the resurrection of life; andthey that have done evil, unto the resurrec-tion of damnation.” John 5:28, 29. Theywho have been “accounted worthy” of theresurrection of life are “blessed and holy.”“On such the second death hath no pow-er.” Revelation 20:6. But those who havenot, through repentance and faith, securedpardon, must receive the penalty of trans-gression—“the wages of sin.” They sufferpunishment varying in duration and inten-sity, “according to their works,” but finallyending in the second death. Since it isimpossible for God, consistently withHis justice and mercy, to save the sinnerin his sins, He deprives him of the exis-tence which his transgressions have for-feited and of which he has proved him-self unworthy. Says an inspired writer:“Yet a little while, and the wicked shallnot be: yea, thou shalt diligently consid-er his place, and it shall not be.” Andanother declares: “They shall be asthough^They had not been.” Psalm37:10; Obadiah 16. When the final test shall be brought tobear upon men, then the line of distinctionwill be drawn between those who serve Godand those who serve Him not. While theobservance of the false sabbath in compliancewith the law of the state, contrary to the fourthcommandment, will be an avowal of alle-giance to a power that is in opposition to God,the keeping of the true Sabbath, in obedienceto God’s law, is an evidence of loyalty to theCreator. While one class, by accepting thesign of submission to earthly powers, receivethe mark of the beast, the other choosing the

The law and the Man : Biblical Concept of Sanctification--- “By the word and the Spirit of God are opened to menthe great principles of righteousness embodied in His law. And since the law of God is “holy, and just, and good,” atranscript of the divine perfection, it follows that a character formed by obedience to that law will be holy. Christ is aperfect example of such a character. He says: “I have kept My Father’s commandments.” “I do always those thingsthat please Him.” John 15:10; 8:29. The followers of Christ are to become like Him—by the grace of God to formcharacters in harmony with the principles of His holy law. This is Bible sanctification.” GC 470.
