PASTORAL CHAT My dear readers,

1. “In perils of robbers …”

In the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Corinthian Church (2 Cor 11:24-26), we read of his many tribulations – “… in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren …” All that took place some 2000 years ago in days before modern communica-tions and law and order became an established feature in socially ad-vanced communities. Who would have expected that daylight robbery of a most daring and vicious kind could happen in our neighbour the Philippines? And the victim was none other than our friend Pastor Dignadice’s own son Caleb!

On July 29 morning, this report came from Mrs Darla Ebert, Hilltop Ministries, Antipolo Rizal Philippi-nes: “This just came from Hilltop from Hannah Galanza, our secre-tary, we ask for prayers for our young Pastor Caleb Dignidice. In-deed we are thankful his life was spared.

Caleb Dignadice had a horrible ex-perience on his way to Manila from Bicol. He was travelling alone. Somewhere in Laguna he stopped by to use the comfort

room and inside the comfort room of a gasoline station at least 4 men followed him to his car and they covered his head with his jacket in the car, tied his hands and someone drove his car, he was in it like a hostage. They even asked him to withdraw his money from ATM. They took everything, they took his car the Isuzu Hi-lander. Then they dropped him off somewhere in Tagiug area. He is still terrified by what happened. He was thankful they did not kill him. Such a shock, Pastor Caleb is a very godly young man – Darla”

Following this, we received a letter from Pastor Caleb.

“Dear Dr Tow and brethren at Pandan,

I greet you with joy and thanksgiv-ing to our great Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ.

He is our Protector and Provider, our great God whom we must holily and faithfully serve. I thank the Lord for preserving my life from the hands of the carjackers. More or less, there were 9 armed men who have taken the vehicle and all my stuff. Five of them took me, tied up my hands, and wrapped my face with cloth. The other group left with their getaway car. Then after, I think 2 hours of travel, they left me in an isolated area. They wanted to shoot

me, fearing that I would report and identify them. But God spared me.

I know God has a plan and purpose for allowing things to happen. He knows what is best for us. We should never be discouraged. Our God is faithful and true.

‘Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.’ (Job 1:21)

Thank you very much for your prayers and concern and for en-couraging us.

God bless. In Christ, Caleb”

2. Remember Pastor Dignadice and family

In reply to Pastor Caleb’s letter, I wrote:

Dear Caleb,

Surely the Lord has seen you through a most fearful experience and preserved you unharmed, intact from the evil men. I pray that He will restore you fully – body, soul and spirit – for His greater service. We continue to pray for you and your daddy. May our God preserve and keep you safe and well. Amen.”

3. “Suppose it had been me!”

As I reflect on the whole episode of the “kidnapping and robbery” ex-perienced by Brother Caleb, I asked

myself, “What if it had been me? Or someone among our B-P pastors? After all, I had been also traveling in the same province as Brother Caleb. It could well have been me!”

But, thank God, it was not me! Thank God for His great mercy and watchful care. “Prevention is better than cure!” I recall what the Psalm-ist says in Psalm 116:12-14:

“What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? I will

take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. I will

pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.”

And what vow shall I pay unto the Lord? What better than to send to the aid of Brother Caleb who es-caped with body untouched and un-scathed? This I must do without de-lay and let our Treasurer remit it with other sums which I’m sure our readers will be happy to contribute to encourage Brother Caleb.

Let our readers offer gladly, and see what great results may come from our expressions of sympathy, “for God loveth a cheerful giver” (2 Cor 9:7). The sick and aged father Pastor Leoncio Dignadice will also be much cheered!

God bless all readers.

Faithfully in the Lord Dr SH Tow
