Why we opened OWASP in Memphis?

- lack of web application security focus in Memphis - promote secure e-commerce in Memphis - promote secure e-government in Memphis (OWASP standards beside

ISO17799 and other standards)- bring OWASP into Memphis – no other similar organization is currently

present in Memphis – this chapter has national coverage - educate businesses, professionals and managers about the current threats to

which web applications are exposed- educate businesses, IT professionals and managers to mitigate the risks

associated to web application vulnerabilities- contribute to OWASP- help addressing future threats- recommend OWASP as industry/government standard in Memphis

OWASP chapter meeting can be supported by sponsors.Amazon is one of the current sponsors of OWASP.Sponsor will provide support for the OWASP meetings.

How does it work?

A monthly meeting will be held at the facility of the sponsor or in a different place arranged by the sponsor.These meetings will be advertised nationally, and be open to members and prospective members.There is an additional option to provide drinks and food.Interested individuals will be able to enrol at these meetingsLeaders are responsible in taking notes and reporting activities of the chapter on the main OWASP website, listing the venue, time, subjects covered and acknowledgements.

How sponsors could benefit from being a supporter of OWASP Memphis?

1) Sponsors can be shown to be supporting a new nationwide initiative (web security) which could be included within the re-launch, and is tangibly assisting both government and industry.2) Sponsors will be perceived as being fully committed to information security in support of application security awareness.3) A local press-release will follow after sponsorships have been confirmed4) Sponsors would be mentioned in the OWASP web site. Having the company name visible worldwide supporting security is an effective and comparatively inexpensive way of advertising

Please note that:

OWASP is not a commercial organization – the setting up and running of an OWASP chapter is by individuals rather than corporate employees. It is a requirement of OWASP that chapters are not used as commercial vehicles. This does not prevent organisations from providing sponsorship and support of the chapter and receiving recognition for it, but it is expected that this will be carefully managed. Vendors may join the meeting but cannot perform any type of business within the meetings.
