C O N T E X T The President Michelle Bachelet and the Minister of Environment Marcelo Mena signed the promulgation of Paris Climate Agreement on April 11th, 2017.
“The Paris Agreement is the fruit
of the work of more than 193
countries that told the world that
we must set an expiration date on
fossil fuels in order to provide a
safe future for the next
generations”.
Marcelo Mena
Purpose of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition?
The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) aims to be the driving force behind the global effort that gathers government, civil society and the private sector, committed to improving air quality and protecting the climate in the coming decades through short-lived climate pollutants reduction in all sectors.
Scientific evidence: The most effective agenda for temperature control is to link the two actions early in one action (GHG + SLCP).
Why does Chile join the Coalition?
Chile pursues the same goal: to fight against local pollution and climate change.
Chile's INDC includes actions to reduce SLCP’s in climate related instruments and environmental management, such as: • National Action Plan for Climate Change.
• Mitigation and adaptation plans.
• Strategy of Decontamination Plans (14 Decontamination
Plans along the country)
• Regulations and Environmental Policies
5 Mitigation actions to reduce SLCP’s under the Action Plan of Climate Change 2017-2022
The Public Services and Ministries in Chile are working in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment to promote
mitigation actions, on the case of SLCP five measures were
proposed.
1. Development of the Climate and Clean Air and Capacity Building Program.
2. Elaboration, Updating and Integration of Inventories GHG+SLCP’s.
3. Evaluation of Black Carbon and Carbon Dioxide Reduction Potential due to the implementation of the Strategy of Atmospheric Decontamination and Strategy of Mitigation in Energy.
4. Assessment of Black Carbon and Carbon Dioxide Reduction Potential due to Green Freight.
5. Evaluation of HFC replacement actions and escalation proposal.
