Why handguns should be banned
1) A widely quoted study published in the New England Journal of
Medicine found that gun ownerswere 2.7 times at risk of being
murdered as those without guns.
2) According to recent polls, most Americans now support gun
licensing as a way to reduce crime.Crime has certainly been
increasing particularly violent crime. Between 1960 and
1980,robberies nationwide increased by 300 percent. In the same
period, both the number of handguns and the national murder rate
doubled.
3) The Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban, both of which
went into effect in 1994 areresponsible for the decrease in violent
crime rates, which have been declining since 1991.
4) The more helpless you are the safer you are from
criminals
5) When confronted by violent criminals, you should put up no
defense give them what theywant, or run (Handgun Control Inc.
Chairman Pete Shields, Guns Don t Die People Do, 1981, p.125).
6) Guns are so complex that special training is necessary to use
them properly, and so simple to usethat they make murder easy.
7) Police operate with backup within groups, which is why they
need larger capacity pistol magazinesthan do civilians who must
face criminals alone and therefore need less ammunition.
8) Handgun Control, Inc., says they want to keep guns out of the
wrong hands. Guess what? You
have the wrong hands.
9) While it's true that guns don't kill people, people kill
people, it's also true that guns are enablers.Columbine, VTech, and
thousands of accidental shootings would not happen in a world
withoutguns.
10) Guns promote a culture of fear. If you have to live in
constant worry of your enemies beingarmed, you have to arm yourself
to protect yourself. What you end up with is a culture
whereeveryone is armed and in this vigilante-wannabe mindset.
11) Crime stats are relatively low, and you are much safer than
you may think you are. You don'tneed to be armed at all times to
protect yourself, your family, or your property. The police
canoften handle a situation that comes up, and if protecting your
family is really your concern, thenget a burglar alarm, as any
blaring loud noise will scare most criminals off.
