Why do the students need iPads?

• Provide students with skills to support learning

• Prepare students to be college and career ready

• Enable our students to accomplish their educational goals

Who will get the iPads?Kindergarten – Grade 2• Each school will receive one iPad cart for every 100 students in

kindergarten through grade 2. These iPads will be used only in the school setting.

Grade 3 – Grade 8• Students in grades 3 – 8 will be issued a district owned iPad Mini

within the first couple of weeks of school. Students will have access to these devices 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Grade 9 – Grade 12• Students in grades 9 – 12 will be issued a district owned iPad Air

within the first couple of days of school. Students will have access to these devices 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Parent Responsibilities

• Attend a Digital Innovation Initiative Orientation• Sign the following forms:

– Use of Technology Resources and Internet Acceptable Use Policy,

– Parent and Student Agreement for the a1 Digital Innovation Initiative,

– the School District Paid Protection Plan, and the Parent/Guardian Email/Application Consent Form documents

• Pay the $29 fee for the Paid Protection Plan before the school can issue a district owned iPad to the student

Wireless Access

• Home access is not necessarily needed

• Information that will be needed for homework can be downloaded to the iPad before the students leave school so that they will still be able to access the information from home.

• Parent Involvement

Apps

• Investigate and apply parental controls available through your home based internet service provider and/or your wireless router.

• Develop a set of rules/expectations for device use at home. Some websites provide parent/child agreements for you to sign.

• Only allow device use in common rooms of the home (e.g. living room or kitchen) and not in bedrooms.

• Demonstrate a genuine interest in what your student is doing on the device. Ask questions and request that he/she shows you his/her work often.

Paid Protection Plan

• Required $29 fee per 3rd – 12th grade student• Covers repairs and replacements in the event

of theft, accidental damage, or maintenance• Covers accidentally broken screen and device

replacements in the event of an accident resulting in total loss

• Should there be an additional replacement, there will be a deductible of $50 and a deductible of $100 for the third and any future replacements

Student Email

• Students will be provided with a school email address for educational purposes.

• Availability and use will be restricted.

Apple ID• Students under 13 – Parents will sign up for their Apple ID. – School needs a current personal email

address for all parents.– Apple will then send the parents a link and

instructions.– Parents will then use the students’ school

email to sign up for the ID.• Students over 13 will sign themselves up

with the use of their school email address.

iPads

• Owned by the district – not by the student• Will be turned in at the end of each school

year• Responsibility for care rests on the students• iPads must be returned before transferring

out of the school (even if transferring to another school within the district)

• Students/Parents will be responsible for any damage not covered by the Paid Protection Plan

iPads

• Students will keep the iPads over winter, Christmas & Spring Break.

• Students will turn in the iPads at the end of the school year.

Stolen iPads

• Reported to the SRO immediately• Out of town or during break – Report theft to local police department

immediately– File a police report– Give a copy of the report to the SRO

Expectations

• Brought to school, charged, each day• Use for class work and home work• Access school messages, announcements,

calendar, and schedules
