Why Attend Every Service?

"Why Attend Every Service?"Hebrews 10:24,25; Acts 2:42-461W. 65th St church of Christ / June 15, 2008Don McClain1IV. To Provide A Good Example And InfluenceA. Christians Are To Set A Good Example...1. To Set A Good Example for one Another! (1 Tim4:12; Tit 2:7,8; Rom 14:13,19-21)a. Newborn Christians - (1 Pet 2:1,2)b. Teaching the weak (Rom 15:1)c. Visitors (1 Cor 14:23)2. To Set A Good Example for the Lost (Mat. 5:14-16; Phili 2:15)a. Relatives - Neighbors Friends Enemies Visitors -V. To Be Ready, Watching And WaitingA. Christians Are To Be Prepared Because ...1. The Day Is Approaching! (Heb. 10:25)2. Jesus Warned Us - (Mat 25:13; Mk 13:33-37)3. Paul Taught Us (1 Thes. 5:1-11)4. We Must Walk Wisely (Ep. 5:16)a. And so much the more as you see the Day approaching.VI. To Have A Clear ConscienceA. A Good Conscience Is Important...1. Our Conscience Is Clear When We Know We Have Obeyed God! (1 Pet 3:21; Acts 24:16; Jam. 4:17)2. Our Conscience Must Be Educated - (1 Tim 1:5)3. Missing Services Contributes To Ignorance While Attendance Contributes To Knowledge (Hos 4:6; 2 Tim 2:15)4. A Conscience Can Become Seared (1 Tim 4:2)Conclusion1. Why attend every service? The faithful and fruitful child of God attends...a. To fulfill the commands of Godb. To grow and develop spirituallyc. To help the church function properlyd. To provide a good example and influencee. To be ready, watching and waitingf. To have a clear conscience2. For such reasons (and many others), the faithful child of God will have the same attitude expressed by Psalmist: "I was glad when they said to me, `Let us go into the house of the LORD.'" (Psa 122:1)Is that your attitude? In redeeming what time you have left (Ep 5:16), may you use as much of it as possible in service to the Lord and His people!"Why Attend Every Service?"Some Christians attend every service of the church whenever possibleThey are present for Bible study on Sunday morning and Wednesday eveningThey attend both Sunday morning and evening worship servicesWhen the church has a gospel meeting, they attend each serviceThey frequently attend gospel meetings at other congregationsDon McClain2W. 65th St church of Christ / June 15, 20082Psalm 78:24-25 (NKJV) Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven. The Divine Will For Unity -1 Cor. 12:13-27 (NKJV) For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. [14] For in fact the body is not one member but many. [15] If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? [16] And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? [17] If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? [18] But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. [19] And if they were all one member, where would the body be? [20] But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. [21] And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." [22] No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. [23] And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, [24] but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, [25] that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. [26] And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. [27] Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. "Why Attend Every Service?"Hebrews 10:19-27 (NKJV) 19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. "Why Attend Every Service?"Hebrews 10:19-27 (NKJV) 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Don McClain12W. 65th St church of Christ / June 15, 2008123. A church is no stronger than the collective strength of its members1 Cor. 12:12-19 (NKJV) For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. [13] For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. Ephes. 4:15-16 (NKJV) but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head--Christ-- [16] from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. We cannot escape being an influence to others. Will our influence be good or poor? Here is yet another reason to attend every service when possible...The Divine Will For Unity -1 Cor. 12:13-27 (NKJV) For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. Don McClain14W. 65th St church of Christ / June 15, 200814Jesus Warned Us Matthew 25:13 (NKJV) Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. Mark 13:33-37 (NKJV) Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. [34] It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. [35] Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming--in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning-- [36] lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. [37] And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!" Paul Taught Us 1 Thes. 5:2-4 (NKJV) For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. [3] For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. [4] But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. We Must Walk Wisely Ephes. 5:15-17 (NKJV) See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, [16] redeeming the time, because the days are evil. [17] Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Can we say that we are ready, watching, and waiting for the Lord, when we willfully miss many of the opportunities to be with His disciples? The Divine Will For Unity -1 Cor. 12:13-27 (NKJV) For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.
