JOSH QUONG TART STAR OF THE LION KING At the capitol theatre, Amanda realises one of her long time dreams -‐ to go backstage at The Lion King stage production. With Josh Quong-‐Tart, who plays Scar, as her guide she checks out the puppet studio, backstage and make-‐up. But does she have what it takes to become a lioness? A descendent of prominent Chinese Australian Mei Quong Tart, and born and raised in Sydney, Josh Quong Tart graduated from NIDA in 1997. Since then, he has many and varied roles on both stage and screen including his long-‐running role as Miles Copeland on Home and Away and as Matt Horner on All Saints. He was also the first host of Nickelodeon’s children’s show Sarvo, and has also appeared in the Our Town, Troopers, Mother Courage & her Children, and The Miser for the Sydney Theatre Company, The Mirage and La Dispute for the Directory, and Romeo and Juliet for Bell Shakespeare Company. Josh now finds himself taking on the role of Scar, the main antagonist in the musical production of The Lion King. Based on the 1994 animated Disney classic, The Lion King is one
of the most successful musicals in history. Now in its 16th year, and after showing for almost three years in Australia from 2003, The Lion King returned to our shores for in December 2013. Currently playing at The Capital Theatre, Sydney, The Lion King moves to the QPAC Theatre, Brisbane, in September for a strictly limited season, before opening in Melbourne in 2015.
