The Empire S ta te Building...Two men are drinking in a bar at the top of the Empire State Building. One turns to the other and says: "You know last week I discovered that if you jump from the top of this building-by the time you fall to the tenth floor, the winds around the building are so intense that they carry you around the building and back into the window."The bartender just shakes his head in disapproval while wiping the bar.The 2nd Man says: "What are you a nut? There is no way that could happen."1st Man: "No it’s true let me prove it to you." So he gets up from the bar, jumps over
the balcony, and careens to the street below. When he passes the tenth floor, the h igh wind whips h im around the building and back into the tenth-floor window and he takes the elevator back up to the bar.The 2nd Man tells him: "You know I saw that with my own eyes, but that must have been a one time fluke."1st Man: "No, I’ll prove it again" and again he jumps and hurtles toward the street where the tenth-floor wind gently carries him around the building and into the window. Once upstairs he urges his fellow drinker to try it.2nd Man: "Well what the heck, it works, I’ll try it." he
jumps over the balcony, plunges downward, passes the eleventh, tenth, ninth, eighth floors... and hits the sidewalk with a ‘splat.’Back upstairs the Bartender turns to the other drinker: "You know, Superman, you’re a real jerk when you’re drunk."
Why I Can't Come to Work Today...I set half the clocks in my house ahead an hour and the other half back an hour Saturday and spent 18 hours in some kind of space-time continuum loop, reliving Sunday (right up until the explosion). I was able to exit the loop only by reversing the polarity of the power source exactly e*log (pi) clocks in the house while simultaneously rapping my dog on the snout with a r o l l e d u p T i m e s . Accordingly, I will be in late, or early.I can't come in to work today because I'll be stalking my previous boss, who fired me for not showing up for work. OK?I have a rare case of 48-hour projectile leprosy, but I know we have that deadline to meet...I am stuck in the blood
pressure machine down at the Food Giant.Ye s , I s e e m t o h a v e contracted some sort of attention-deficit disorder and, hey, how about them Skins, huh? So, I won't be
able to, yes, could I help you? No, no, I'll be sticking with Sprint, but thank you for calling.Constipation has made me a walking time bomb.
I just found out that I was switched at birth. Legally, I shouldn't come to work knowing my employee records may now contain false information.

This is to the person that had so much t o say abou t teachers walking out. Let’s c a l l t h i s p e r s o n S i c k andTired. I have heard a lot about the teachers walking out mess, however I have not seen anyone put it quite that way, how things would be if doctors, police, etc. walked out .Well said. You are the Sound off Champion of all
Time, thank you for that! Well, congratulations to the Teachers Union and State Legislature. The legislature "caved" to threats by the Teachers Union and put it all on the backs of Oklahoma c i t i z e n s . 1 5 % - 1 8 % i s outrageous. Many people through the last number of years saw no raises, even retirees. Now that citizenry
will have less of that tax cut that we got from the Federal government because our gas will be more expensive, our t r a s h w i t h t h e i r f u e l adjustment will cost more, and many other goods and services will cost more as well. The "kids" that the
Teachers Union was so concerned with just made it so the parents of those kids will have less money in their h o m e f o r t h e i r l i v i n g expenses. Oklahoma voters need to remember this action and rid our state of politicians on both sides of the isle that pushed this through. Look it up and find out how your senator and representative voted. A raise was warranted b u t s o m e t h i n g t h i s outrageous was not and will encourage every o ther special interest to hold the state hostage as well.
I'm still looking for the silver gray TRUCK!!!! If you know anything about it or know someone who does, I need it back! especially the things that are in it. Please contact me at 580-889-6437.
What kind of Love have you got? You fill up the dog's bowl everyday. Same with the cats. They eat whenever they want. BUT...not your children! They must beg for every tidbit. They only get food at a certain t ime under your watchful eye and they must eat it all. What kind of Love is that? What about this sound off? What do you think???
If it is true that our water has been sold off to a chemical company. Later on when we
buy our water back as customers and have to pay a higher rate? So many things have been done without the vote of the people. It is time to start signing petitions. We need change now. This is nuts.
I have been interested in this teacher situation and decided to look up some facts. The yearly salary of an Oklahoma firefighter is $40,220 to put themselves in a dangerous path to save lives. The yearly average for a police officer $42,720 for again saving lives and working no less than 55 to 60 hours a week. The average yearly salary for an RN who also falls into the “save l ives” category is $57,130 to work but that is with over time and long hours. The average salary of a Master Degree for a psychologist is $46,800 on a full time status. The average yearly salary of a teacher who is off for every holiday, summer b reak w i th an average of 7 months of actual time put in is $46,440. So when I see news reports
where teachers are saying they are so poor because the pay is so bad, I am now having a very hard time understanding. Then I looked at the national education average and Oklahoma students are 47th in the nation! Now here’s how life works, you are paid on performance and at 47th in the nat ion why are the demands so high for more money? How about excel and show the people that we are ranked at the top of the nation in learning and then one can demand to be paid on the same level as those who save lives. The tax payer is going to now take up the cost for this demanded raise. Now consider the average tax
payer’s salary in Oklahoma which is $27,224 now must pay more for gas (at the station, in our homes and most of which have young children, so they now have less to spend on their children
for this demanded raise. I understand everyone should be paid accordingly but when the facts do no add up to the demanded figure, then when do we say enough?
If you travel south from Carl Albert on D street the railroad c r o s s i n g i s a l m o s t impassable. I urge you to call OAK Railroad, the office is in Wilburton, OK you can get their phone number. Call them please and tell them they need to fix this crossing. The one on A street is just as bad. Also I saw where a lawyer was hit by a car at the courthouse. The light is so high you cannot see it. I saw two people in a wheel chair
last week that almost were creamed because a driver whipped around me and d i d n ’ t s e e t h e m . I t i s dangerous. T^hey need to get that light lowered. Please get this done.

Teacher Walkout. Week One.My freshman daughter has completed the entire season of Gray’s Anatomy available on Netflix. My senior son has attended two day-long parties at the homes of parent’s either much nicer or dumber than me.By the time this column
reaches your hands, I can only hope that somebody gave in and got this education ship righted and sailing on a course agreeable to everyone.Because let’s get real: We’ve got a senior trip planned for the last week in May. In all of my life, I’ve been associated with school days in June just one time, due to excessive snow days. I do NOT want to be part of that kind of fiasco again. If I sound unsympathetic to
teachers, I’m not. I grew up in a household lead by a public school educator. I’m proud that they have finally had enough of stagnant budgets and no raises. But I am hoping to hear no more stories about teachers leaving the Capitol trashed out or lobbing F-bombs at the legislators. If I sound unsympathetic to legislators, I sort of am. It is not a secret that the education budget has not grown over the past several years. I get it – t i m e s a r e t i g h t . B u t politicians have got to stop selling programs that don’t do what they are supposed to do. When Oklahomans hear the word “Lottery”, they think of two things. The first is “nobody ever wins the Powerball around here.” And the second is “I thought this scratch-off was paying for the entire educational system in Oklahoma. What the heck happened?” Indeed. What DID happen? I’ve heard several explanations as to why the gambling money
hasn’ t t r ip led teachers salaries or provided new books or desks. Doesn’t really m a t t e r w h y i t ’ s h o t happening. The bottom line is that Oklahomans were sold a bill of goods on that thing and now they’re mad.S o t h e y ’ r e t h r o w i n g a demonstration parade. I’m personally not a big marcher. Short of chocolate chip cookies being outlawed, I can’t think of much that would make me create a poster and walk around in a circle shouting a demand in rhyme. But it appears that teachers are fed up. Honestly, if I had to put up with a room full of teenagers five days a week I’d probably have been walking out a long time ago.So can we please get this stuff straightened out? I need to get my daughter’s focus back on conjugating Spanich verbs. And I need to get my son’s d i p l o m a r e q u i r e m e n t s satisfied so that he can move on to his college campus very soon. Senioritis is strong in that one. I’m really hoping we aren’t in for Teacher Walkout, Week Two.
CAN WE PLEASE FIND SOME MONEY?

GEI’s Harbert Discusses Global Energy Opportunities with Congressional Hispanic Caucus InstituteT h e C o n g r e s s i o n a l Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) is dedicated to providing opportunities for young people to learn about and pursue careers in public service. It was fitting then that CHCI’s la tes t pol icy summit focused on energy, which is providing numerous opportunities for our entire nation to prosper. CHCI’s energy summit at the Newseum kicked off today with remarks by Congressman Darren Soto (FL) and Bill Flores (TX), who h igh l i gh ted the challenges that lawmakers face, including issues like energy storage. Sempra Energy’s Dennis Arriola also delivered a keynote address, highlighting the f a c t t h a t A m e r i c a ’ s economy cannot grow w i th e ne rg y. Whi l e Sempra’s employee base is almost 37% Hispanic, Arriola noted that number
industry wise is just 12% overall. As the workforce ages, he called for a greater f o c u s o n r e c r u i t i n g younger workers and making sure opportunities e x i s t f o r t h e n e x t generation of Hispanic leaders to be attracted to the energy industry.A highlight of the summit was a panel discussion moderated by Axios’ Steve L e v i n e o n Fo s t e r i n g Effective Collaboration Between Key Stakeholders in Energy. One of the stakeholders represented was GEI president and CEO Karen Harbert, who started off the panel by declaring “I’m an energy optimist.” There’s good reason for her optimism. Harbert explained how the global energy market has turned in America’s favor. “The people who we used to import from are now losing market share to us,” she said. She noted that
the Northern American energy block has more resources than any other area in the world, and that is both a blessing and a major opportunity. Both Harbert and Arriola called for the modernization of NAFTA pointing to the huge energy trade that underpins the economic advantage o f the US economy. “90% of the d e m a n d f o r e n e r g y between now and 2050 is going to come from the developing world, and the U.S. is projected to supply 60% of it,” Harbert said. “ W i t h c o n t i n u e d investment in technology and innovat ion , that means that America has the opportunity to make the world cleaner and m a k e e n e r g y m o r e affordable for those who
need it.”With several members of the President’s cabinet testifying at a Senate h e a r i n g t o d a y o n infrastructure, Harbert closed by emphasizing the n e e d f o r reforms—regardless of what your vision is for energy in the future. “ W h a t e v e r k i n d o f molecule or electron it is, if we can’t move it, we won’t use it,” she said. “We have a huge problem in this country that China doesn’t have—it takes too d a r n l o n g t o b u i l d something. If we don’t get serious about permitting r e f o r m , t h e s e n e w technologies won’t get to market.” GEI will continue t o p a r t n e r w i t h organizations like CHCI to help invest in awareness of
energy opportunities and t h e n e e d t o a t t r a c t tomorrow’s workforce to
the high tech environment that is now today’s energy industry.
