tomorrow Friday, 21st August and will be performing songs that highlight the books that were selected for Book Week awards.
This group attended last year and there was a great response from the children and we look forward to their concert this year.
The cost of this performance has been fully covered from our Book Fair profit and is at no charge to families.
NAPLAN Results: Grades 3 & 5 Individual NAPLAN reports for Grade 3 and 5 students have arrived and have been sent home to families today. The NAPLAN is
the national testing program in literacy and numeracy conducted with all Grade 3 and 5 students.

Step Into Life: Introductory Parent Personal Training Opportunity You may have seen Mick Talbot, from Step Into Life, conducting fitness classes at the front of our school or on the oval each week.

Sunsmart Policy: Hats On from Tuesday, 1st September All students are required to wear their broad brimmed hats, even when playing or participating in activities under our outside
shelters. Our SunSmart Policy is based upon the Cancer Council guidelines that hats should be worn when UV levels are above 3
on the index (usually at the beginning of September in each year). We source this information from the following website:
www.bom.gov.au/products/UV/Bendigo_VIC.shtml
Hats off occurs when UV levels fall below 3 on the index (usually at the beginning of May in each year). The announcement for
‘Hats On’ will be made at next Monday’s assembly and teachers will be reminding students over the next two weeks. Parents are
asked to assist children to find their hats and have them ready for Tuesday, 1st September.
Please remember, no hat, no play and only school broad brimmed hats may be worn.
Camps Sports & Excursions Fund: Statements Sent Home

Transition Prep teachers have commenced visiting pre-schools to get to know the children enrolled at our school for 2016. If you have not yet
completed your enrolment form we ask that it be returned to the school office as soon as possible so that your child can be visited.
Parents or older siblings can pick up enrolment forms from the school office or Mrs Ellis.
Return Chocolates We still have 34 boxes of chocolate and money outstanding from our fundraiser that have not been returned. They were due
back on 24th
July. A second reminder letter has been sent home today, phone calls will then be made.
I’d ask that if you have chocolates or money outstanding you attend to this matter straight away.
Your support of our local fundraising is appreciated.
Congratulations to our Birthday Children
Free LED Down Lights to Replace Halogen (Switch to Save): Extended Closing Date ‘Switch to Save’ is a Bendigo Bank initiative that aims to replace every energy-thirsty halogen down light in our community with
energy efficient LED down lights for FREE.
For every light replaced in our community’s homes and businesses, Bendigo Bank will donate $1 to our school.
Here are some important things to know about Switch to Save:
Switch to Save is available to everyone in our community, not just Bendigo Bank customers
On average, more than $500 a year can be saved by switching to LED down lights
Lights are replaced by a local, qualified electrician
Switch to Save is possible thanks to the State Government’s Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET).
There are also massive environmental benefits. For every 1000 households who participate in Switch to Save, we’ll save 17,000
tonnes of carbon going into the atmosphere. That’s equivalent to taking 5,600 cars off the road for one year!
Registration forms are available at the school or Bendigo Bank White Hills Branch. Complete the form and return it to the school
office or the White Hills Branch. The closing date for registrations has now been extended to Friday, 11th
September, 2015. Terms
and conditions can be viewed at www.bendigobank.com.au/switchtosave or call the White Hills Branch on 54414944.
Wet Clothing: Parents Phoned
With the spate of wet weather, there are areas of the school yard that are quite damp. Classroom teachers remind children to stay
away from puddles and wet areas. We have cordoned off certain areas and duty teachers are keeping children away from these
spots. The office stock of clothing is limited and is not for the purpose of changing children who are wet and muddy. If your child
is wet or muddy we will phone you to bring dry clothes to the school. We appreciate your support in encouraging your children to
stay dry at school.
2016 Prep Students: Enrol Now All Prep students for 2016 should have been
enrolled at their preferred school by the end of
last term. A package containing a letter and
enrolment form was sent home to families in the
last week of term 2 who may have a 2016 Prep
child. Parents must supply the school with the
following documents for full enrolment:
A completed enrolment form (available
from the school).
A copy of your child’s birth certificate (the
school will photocopy the original for you).
Birth certificates can be ordered from the
Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and
Marriages.
A copy of your child’s immunisation
certificate (the school will photocopy the
original for you).
This document is issued by the Australian
Childhood Immunisation Register, on completion
of your child’s 4 year old vaccine.
You are encouraged to enrol your 2016 Prep
child NOW.
Further details are available at the school office
or phone 54430799.
Setting Limits For Children: From an article from "Parenthood" by Robin Barker.
CONSEQUENCES:
Consequences for undesirable behaviour are a necessary part of limit setting and need to be consistent, immediate and appropriate.
Misbehaviour can range from irritating to destructive and dangerous, so consequences must vary according to the level of the
misbehaviour and the age and stage of development. Reprimand: Letting your child know with a few words and by the tone in your
voice that his/her behaviour is unacceptable. Ignoring or switching off: Is effective for misbehaviour that isn't dangerous or
destructive- the irritating, attention seeking, day-to-day stuff. Time out: Is the best strategy for serious misbehaviour. It's also useful
for both parents and child when they need to separate and cool off. Time out removes children from any attention-positive or
negative- for a short time. Toddlers and young children need to be taken to time out, while older children should take themselves.
Withdrawing privileges: Limiting access to television, an early bedtime or missing an event are all examples of withdrawing
privileges. The aim is to keep the removal short and fair. It's a big mistake to make threats you can't carry through with or threats
that will have more serious consequences for you than your child, for example, "I'll tell Santa not to call here this year". ...continued
next week.

occasion, a day honouring the kindergarten’s contribution to education in Bendigo will be held for past and present students,
families and educators on Sunday, 13th

linked to the kindergarten with the vision being to display some of the kindergarten’s heritage at the 50 year celebration. .” Further
input is being sought for another feature, the “where are they now” display, showing current photographs and captions of what
