Information Note
We are pleased to provide you with the following information regarding the practical arrangements for the above meeting.

Hotel district (Cornavin)
1. Main venue for the meeting.
Executive Board Room – Main building
Photo ID - either your passport or an ID card must be presented at the main gate to enter WHO premises. A badge will be provided.
Please note that the WHO building is a smoke-free working environment and smoking is forbidden on the premises.
2. Local transportation Buses and trams in Geneva run from 06:00 to 24:00. Your hotel should offer you the Geneva Transport Card, which allows you to use public transport in Geneva free of charge during your stay. Public transport from the airport to the hotel district (Cornavin): You can pick up a free public transport ticket from the machine in the baggage collection area at the Arrival Level in the airport. This allows you to use public transport (buses and trains) throughout Geneva for a period of 80 minutes free of charge. The simplest option is to take the train from the station next to the airport. Trains are frequent, and all stop at Geneva-Cornavin station (city centre). Alternatively, bus lines 5 and 10 run from the airport to Cornavin. Taxis cost approximately 30 CHF from the airport to the city centre. Public transport from the hotel district (Cornavin) to the WHO Headquarters (OMS in French): Please take bus number 8 (direction OMS). WHO is the final stop on this line. If you do not have a free pass, you will have to buy your ticket before boarding the bus. Machines are at your disposal at every bus stop and, sometimes, inside the bus. Tickets cost 3.50CHF. Some machines accept credit cards, some only accept Swiss francs and do not give change.
Cycle hire “Genèveroule” has free bicycles available to use for a day. You are required to leave photo ID and a deposit of 50CHF (please check these details, including how long the bicycle is free to hire, with the Genèveroule staff). Genèveroule staff will be able to advise you on the best route to take between the cycle hire point and the WHO Headquarters.
There are several Genèveroule cycle hire points in Geneva, including on Place Montbrillant, located near many of the hotels and Cornavin train station.

Walking Walking between the WHO Headquarters and downtown Geneva takes 30 – 40 minutes. There are also hotels located within a shorter walk of the WHO Headquarters. 3. Currency
The currency in Switzerland is Swiss Francs (CHF). There is an exchange bureau at Cornavin train station, as well as in WHO premises (UBS Bank).

Methodology
54 hotels in Geneva were sent a questionnaire on their environmental performance in April 2014. 31% of hotels responded to this questionnaire and their answers were assessed according to a number of criteria (see below). The performance of each hotel against these criteria was scored and ranked. The six hotels listed above were the top six resulting from this scoring.
Criteria
The hotels answers were assessed against the following criteria:
- Has the hotel received ISO140001 accreditation? - Is the hotel monitoring and/or reducing its water consumption? - Are some or all of the light bulbs in the hotel LED or energy-efficient light bulbs? - Does the hotel separate its recycling? - Does the hotel actively avoid the use of plastic-bottled water? - What proportion of the hotel’s food is sourced locally?
The performance of each hotel against each of these criteria was allocated one of three scores (except for ISO140001 accreditation, which was scored according to whether accreditation was present or not present).
Caveats
This environmental assessment of hotels in Geneva provides a rough guide to which hotels perform better than others on a limited number of criteria. Not all of the hotels in Geneva were included in this assessment. None of the answers provided by hotels were independently or legally verified. The assessment process itself has not been created, tested or accredited according to any official standards. Please use the information presented here at your own discretion.
