Immigrants Who Came to William
Penn’s Colony?

English Quakers
They wanted to come for religious toleration because they did NOT like being told how to worship. They also
came for a chance to move up in life and people could buy land for a small price.
The English Quakers were mostly craft workers or merchants , not always
farmers .They thought that everyone was equal. They didn’t like the idea of
war.

They brought business skills to the colony that helped it grow. They were craft workers or merchants.
They brought good farming.
They settled in Penn’s Woods to have religious freedom. They did it for more food to eat. They could move up in life. They warship what they believed. They
didn’t have to go to war.

Welsh Quakers
They came to PA that wanted freedom and they did not
want to be in wars any more.
People who came from England, Germany, and
Holland and wanted freedom.

Welsh Quakers
The Welsh Quakers brought their beliefs and religions to
Pennsylvania. That is why they came, to have religious toleration.
The Welsh Quakers bought land from William Penn, hoping to start their own
colony. But since there were more English, the Welsh Quakers grew into
English the ways.

Germans
They wanted land to farm on,and be free to practice there
religion. They suffered wars in Germany.
The German colonists were Mennonites, Moravians , Amish,
Baptists, and Lutherans. They helped Pennsylvania become a
strong wheat growing colony ,their jobs were farmers, shoemakers, blacksmiths, and
wagon makers.Picture

They brought their farming skills but also, they helped the PA become a wheat-
growing region. Many German immigrants were farmers, but some were skilled shoe-
makers, blacksmiths, and wagon makers.
This is where the Germans settled. They settled in Germantown PA. The
Mennonites were the first Germans to settle to Germantown. That’s where
they settled.

The Scottish Irish moved to Pa because for religious freedom
and they did not have good crops
They were the Scottish Irish they were looking for
religious freedom

It was hard to find workers so people wanted to start their
own farms.
They wanted to be around people with the same language, religion, and traditions.
They were Indentured servants for seven years then after the seven years, they
could leave and do anything they wanted.
