Bronte Tennis Club made quite aracquet in ladies’ interclub league playthis season.
The outdoor community club’sLadies A Division team led the way,winning the Intercounty TennisAssociation’s A championships — beat-ing out 31 other teams from across theGreater Toronto Area, including sever-al large year-round commercial clubs.
The ladies’ team, captained byKaren Alton, began its odyssey by win-ning the West section of the leaguewith an 11-1 record and 143 points.
The team then defeated YorkWeston Tennis Club in a regional play-off, prevailing 10-4 on four courts ofdoubles.
The victory qualified a Bronte teamfor next season’s prestigious ICTAMajors league — the highest level ofladies’ league play in the GTA. It also
earned the team a berth in the East vs.West ICTA showdown, initially sched-uled to be played at the Rexall Centrebut moved indoors to the Mayfair WestRacquet Club because of inclementweather.
Bronte easily handled East champi-on Banbury Tennis Club of North Yorkin the final, winning 14-0. Competingin the final for Bronte were AmandaMcKee, Lisa Lunski-Wood, BarriePlatt, Elaine McConachie and Alton.
Also contributing to Bronte’s cham-pionship run were Susan Hamilton,Colleen Petrick, Karen Olech, Anna-Marie Purvis, June Wright, VernaDalgleish, Sheena Eglington, GabiJeffrey and Meg Pigott.
In other club news, the ICTA Ladies’C Division team also won its leaguethis year, qualifying the squad to moveup to the B Division in 2008.
Locals claim tennis title

The Oakville novice A Rangers began theirhockey season in fine form, dominating allcomers at the Richmond Hill Stars Early Birdhockey tournament.
Oakville outscored its opposition 26-3 inwinning all four of its games. The Rangersdefeated the Bradford Bulldogs 5-1,Amherstberg Stars 3-1 and Richmond Hill 11-1, then blanked Amherstburg 7-0 in the cham-pionship game.
“The players are having fun and playing
great hockey,” said head coach Dwayne Clarke.Members of the team are Tyler Sampson,
Brett Goold, Kyle Petta Ionescu, Colton Incze,Kyle Salmon, Harrison Clarke, CurtisFernandes, Jacob Saunders, James Gabura,Liam Donnelly, Ryan Menne, Mike Matson,Kyle Barrett, Jacob Gower, Cole Purboo, JoeyBerkopec and Nathaniel Gerchikov.
Steve Sampson, Desmond Fernandes andScott Goold help coach the team, which ismanaged by Judy Gower.
Early bird crown for novice Rangers
Oakville novice A Rangers won their first tournament of the season, going 4-0 at the Richmond Hill Stars com-petition.
