Thetipofthisscholarlyicebergbrokein1999whenProf.Ze'evHerzogofTelAvivUniversityannounced:“theIsraeliteswereneverinEgypt,didnotwanderthedesert,didnotconquertheland,anddidnotpassitontothetwelvetribes.”

Butthereadermayarguethatinthe1956movieTheTenCommandmentsCharltonHestonwhoportrayedMoses,usedhisrodtobringontheplaguesagainstEgypt,andfinallypartedtheRedSeatodrownPharaohwithallofhisarmy.ButoneofAmerica’smostprominentrabbiswasboldenoughtostatethatHestonmayhavebeenpromotingapurefiction.HisnameisDavidJ.WolpeandonPassover2001,hetoldhiscongregationthefollowing:

Shlomo Sand, a professor at Tel Aviv University in Israel, wrote a revealing book in 2008 entitled The Invention of the Jewish People where he states: “The ancient Egyptians kept meticulous records of every event, and there is a great deal of documentation about the kingdom's political and military life.…Yet there is not a single mention of any “Children of Israel” who lived in Egypt, or rebelled against it, or emigrated from it at any time.” Dr. Sand points out that there is no archaeological evidence of any mass migration of people through the Sinai desert, neither any evidence of the mass destruction of cities in Palestine during the supposed conquests of Joshua. He further points out that the very land that the Biblical Children of Israel supposedly settled in was occupied and controlled by the Egyptians before and after the dates generally ascribed to the Exodus legend.

Inthisinstance,theBiblewillbeconsideredeventhoughothersubstantialevidencesfromthesacredwritingsoftheancientEgyptiansaswellastheHolyQur’ancanbegiven.Forthesakeofbrevity,thesubjectwilllimititselftotheBible.

FromthetimeofMoseswhohadreceivedrevelationoftheOldTestamentorTorah,meaningin2,000B.C.or4,000yearsago,followingtheearlierprophecyonwhatwastohappentoAbraham’sdescendants,Mosesisquotedspeakingtothe‘Israelites’oftheirlineageorposterityofmessenger‐prophets,inDeuteronomy:




“TheLordyourGodwillraiseupforyouaprophetlikeme3fromamongyourbrothers.Youmustlistentohim.”‐Deuteronomy18:15

In1990newtombsfoundinGizasupporttheviewthattheGreatPyramidswerebuiltbyfreeworkersandnotslavesaswidelybelieved.

ZawiHawass,thechiefarchaeologistheadingtheEgyptianexcavationteam,saidinastatement:

“Thesetombswerebuiltbesidetheking'spyramid,whichindicatesthatthesepeoplewerenotbyanymeansslaves,"(Reuters,2010)
