Rain is not new water.

The water that falls from the skies comes from many different

places…

Waterfalls

Rivers

Seas

Lakes

Wet Clothes

Before we discuss where rain comes from let me tell you about…

The Three States of Matter

Solids

Liquids

Gases

MATTER is what things are made up of.

Let’s use an ice cube as an example.

An ice cube is liquid water that has been frozen into a solid.

When an ice cube is exposed to heat it begins to melt.

It will eventually completely melt and turn into water.

Once the water is heated sufficiently, it will evaporate and turn into a gas

It will eventually rise in to the sky and form into a cloud.

The cloud will become heavy with moisture and rain will fall from it.

That’s what’s called the Water Cycle

Water from lakes, streams, rivers, and seas evaporates and turns from a

Liquid into a gas

The gas then cools and adheres around dust particles in the air.

The gas will continue to form around the dust particles until they become so heavy

that the fall from the cloud.

When they fall they’re called raindrops.
