WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?From its beginnings with the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, through the 20th century, the Twisp Ranger Station was an economic engine for the Valley. Hundreds of people worked on the site, in jobs that were tied to the natural resource economy of that time. Today, the TwispWorks campus is again at the center of economic opportunity – this time based in the human resources of creativity and collaboration.

TwispWorks is a non-profit organization that rents space on its campus to partners who add something new to the economic or cultural mix in the Methow. A new idea, a fresh voice, a creative endeavor...

Campus partners are businesses, non-profit groups and individuals. They all share a strong drive to create, thrive and connect.

These diverse partners come together to form a magical environment not unlike a college campus—the kind of place where the next spontaneous conversation might prove just as important as having a bulletproof business plan.

You bring your passion, we’ll bring some practical help to make

ON CAMPUSyour dream real. TwispWorks offers our partners marketing assistance, links to business resources, and matchmaking to connect you with people who can help your project succeed.

We also work with the Methow Valley School District to give teens hand-on vocational learning experiences on the campus. We encourage partners to get involved in our youth programming.

We also encourage the community to use the campus for events and celebrations (and we put on a couple of great events of our own).

TwispWorks’ mission extends beyond the boundaries of our campus.

We bring people together for real conversations about creating economic vitality for our Valley, developing strategies that match our community’s deeply held values – fairness, hard work, interconnectedness, authenticity.

We connect regional economic development programs to the Methow and we promote the unique handmade goods of the Methow Valley through the Methow Made program.

IDEASTwispWorks provides marketing and business support, and works to bring public attention to both the whole project, and each campus partner.

Together, we dream big, welcome the community, and work to make our valley an even better place to live...

…A GREAT PLACE TO MAKE A LIVING

WHO’S NOT A GOOD FITBecause TwispWorks is a mission-driven non-profit organization, all of our partners need to believe in and participate in our broader goals. You may not be a fit here if:

• You’re just looking for a space to rent, with no connection to the TwispWorks mission and goals.

• You’re not excited at the prospect of growing, collaborating, educating, brainstorming and making new things happen.

• You cringe at the thought of interfacing with the public on a regular basis.

INCUBATIONNeed a business plan or strategic plan? We’ll connect you to the right resources. Need financing for your new company or product line? Let us introduce you to our network.

PROMOTIONPutting on a class, launching a new product or hiring an employee? We’ll help get the word out to thousands of followers and friends via social media and other local and regional channels.

COLLABORATIONWhy go it alone when you can go it together? Partners at TwispWorks collaborate to create products, market their goods, reach customers and more.

CONNECTIONTwispWorks is a gathering place for all segments of the community, with scores of events on campus each year. Partners at TwispWorks integrate their business (or non-profit) activities with community organizations to teach, learn, welcome and celebrate.

INNOVATIONIdeal TwispWorks partners are ambitious people who can’t wait to try something new, improve a current product or service, or make a bold move.

PARTICIPATIONPartners help the whole project and mission succeed by welcoming visitors to your space on campus (all or some of the time) lending your skills, or adding your flair to events, open houses and campus-wide projects.

COLLABORATIONThe TwispWorks dream will work if we all work it. As a campus partner, you’ll make connections with your neighbors and with TwispWorks, and we’ll all benefit.

PATIENCERome wasn’t built in a day, and the full development of TwispWorks will take years. Our goal is to get all the existing buildings renovated and occupied by June 2019, our 10th birthday. You’ll help us get there by being part of the action.

GET AND GIVETHE MAIN IDEA IS THAT WE (YOU AND TWISPWORKS) TAKE ACTION TOGETHER TO HELP OUR SHARED GOALS BECOME REALITYBeyond the rental agreement (where you’re a tenant and we’re the landlord), there is no one set of “rules” for how our partnership will look. Some partners throw their doors wide open for every event. Others contribute by working in the background – for example designing or building elements of the campus. Many do some of both. Fundamentally, our partnership will be a unique expression of creative and functional alignment between your goals and TwispWorks’ mission.

WHAT YOU GET (BESIDES YOUR SPACE) WHAT YOU GIVE (BESIDES YOUR RENT)

THE NITTY GRITTYEach TwispWorks space is unique. We negotiate with each new partner to create an agreement that works for your reality and ours. Because partnership is at the core of our work, becoming part of TwispWorks can take time. We carefully work with partners to make sure there’s a good fit between your goals and our mission.

STEP 1Meet with our staff to discuss your idea or business, take a look at our spaces, and get an idea of the potential costs.

STEP 2You’re interested and it might be a fit. Now it’s time to fill out a Partnership Application explaining your goals, and why you want to be at TwispWorks.

STEP 3A committee of the TwispWorks Board of Directors reviews and scores your application. We’re looking for partners who can say YES to some or all the criteria mentioned on the previous pages.

PARTNERSHIP APPLICATION PROCESSSTEP 4If your application is approved, you work with TwispWorks staff on the plan for how to get you into the space you want. We have a wide variety of negotiated agreements with partners, ranging from move-in-ready spaces to multi-faceted tenant improvement projects.

This step often takes the most time, as building improvements can be complex, and are always dependent on availability of resources. This is also the stage where we come to final agreement on the financial details: what you’ll pay for the space, for how long, etc.

STEP 6Space improvements. Typically, some work is completed by the partners and some by TwispWorks to get your space to its desired state. (See Step 4).
