METHODOLOGY. To understand the geographical phenomenon of Asian clusters, I looked at how the Asian race, population born in Asian and % who speak Asian languages clustered in LA

There were clear clusters around Rosmead, Covina and Rancho Palos Verde. For the purposes of this study, I selected the cluster of tracts around Rosmead and Monterey Park for analysis.
HOW ASIAN IS IT?METHODOLOGY. “Asian Tracts” were selected by rasterizing and classifying the features of “Asian Race”, “Born in Asia” and “Speaking Asian Language”. Asian Tracts were calculated by weighing each features as described in the previous slide.

CONCLUSIONS• Asianburbs replicate some features of old
networks– Places where Asians can speak their
mother tongues– Conduct business through their own
networks– Keep close ties to countries of origin– Places where they can feel at home– Not springboards to assimilation but
communities…and that mean a lot of dimsum places
