Pre-licensure nursing students who begin or resume attendance in Fall 2020 and beyond will be ineligible to utilize most GCU institutional aid/scholarships for tuition and fees once accepted into the clinical portion of the program. CONFERENCE HEADQUARTERS: EVERGREEN FOYER “COAT CLOSET”

NAME BADGES Your name badge is your ticket to all seminars, general sessions, competition, and special activities. Due to the security at the hotel, you must always wear your name badge during the conference.

LOST NAME BADGESLost badges may only be replaced at the conference headquarters. The cost is $1.00 for a new lanyard.

VALUABLESKeep your valuables with you. The hotel and Washington DECA are not responsible for valuables left, lost, or stolen.

ELEVATORSPlease do not delay the elevators. Use stairs where provided.

TELEPHONE CALLSEach call from your room will cost $$. Only in-house phone calls may be made from student rooms. Phone calls to outside of the hotel must be made by using a cell phone.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE/EMERGENCIESIn an instance where medical attention is required, contact the front desk of the hotel and your chapter advisor, a chaperone, or conference staff person. Medical consent forms should be in the possession of each chapter advisor. In case of an emergency, follow the procedures provided in your hotel room. Overlake Hospital is the nearest medical facility to the Hyatt Hotel. The address is 1035 116th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004. In an emergency, call 911.

HOTEL ETIQUETTERooms should be kept in an orderly fashion during the conference. If you have excess trash (pizza boxes, boxes, etc.) please look for a trash can outside of your room to dispose. Rooms left with damage will be reported to conference headquarters and your school will be billed. Please help us maintain the excellent reputation DECA has with the hotels.

GRATUITIESWhen dining in the hotel or neighboring restaurants, please consider these guidelines for gratuities: 15% of bill for “good” service 20% of bill for “exceptional” service

It is standard to tip a minimum of $1 per bag for luggage service. It is also appreciated to tip housekeeping roughly $5 per day, especially if you leave a messy room for housekeeping to clean. Split the tip with your roommates.

Delegates shall always abide by the rules and practices of WA DECA and school district policies. The following shall be regarded as severe violations of the WA DECA Conduct Code: Should a conduct code violation occur for items 1 through 6 below, the violating delegate (s) will be sent home and will not be eligible to attend any other state, regional, or national conference during that school year. Determination of penalties for violations will be at the discretion of the State Management Team and/or Washington DECA Executive Director. 1. Alcohol and Drugs: a delegate shall not possess, use, transmit, be under the influence of, or show evidence of having used any alcoholic beverage or other drugs or substances. Nor shall the delegate possess, use, sell or transmit paraphernalia associated with drugs, alcohol, or chemical substances in any form, at any time, or under any circumstances, on public or private properties. Any delegate attending a Washington DECA sponsored conference or activity who is suspected of the use of alcohol consents to undertaking a breathalyzer test at the discretion of Washington DECA;2. Willful Companionship: Being in the willful companionship of someone who violates the conduct code, or failing to report any direct knowledge (other than hearsay) of the conduct code violations;3. Personal Conduct: Participating in social activities other than those with conference participants; conducting acts and/or possession of weapons capable of causing bodily harm or fear of life; defacing or stealing any public or private property; other serious violations of personal conduct regulations outlined in item 11 below; 4. Serious Violations of the delegate conduct code of the school district or school that the delegate represents;5. Private Transportation: Delegates are to be housed at the conference site and are not allowed to drive or ride in a private automobile unless they are not staying overnight because they live within proximity (20 miles) of the conference site; 6. Abusive Behavior and Lewd Conduct: A delegate shall not engage in any lewd, indecent, sexual, or obscene act or expression; The following shall be other violations of the WA DECA Conduct Code: Should a conduct code violation occur for items 7 through 11 below, regardless of when exposed, the violating delegate (s) may be sent home and may not be eligible to attend any other state, regional or national conference during that school year. Determination of penalties for violations will be at the discretion of the State Management Team, and/or Washington DECA Executive Director. 7. Conference Conduct: Failing to wear the supplied conference ID badge at all times from arrival at the conference until departure at the end of the conference; failing to attend all general sessions and assigned activities for which a delegate is registered (unless engaged in a specific assignment taking place at the same time); Using the hotel pool or hot tub without a chaperone present;

8. Curfew: Failing to be in your assigned hotel room from 11 pm until 5 am;9. Dress: Failing to abide by the dress code established for the conference;10. Personal Conduct: Failing to keep adult advisors always informed of activities and whereabouts; using tobacco products outside of local school district policies and state law; having a member of the opposite sex in a room if no adult chaperone is present;11. Hotel Conduct: Failing to meet the professional standards of housing facilities.

FOR LEGAL PROTECTION, THE PERMISSION AND RELEASE FORM MUST BE IN THE CHAPTER ADVISOR’S POSSESSION FOR EACH STUDENT AT EACH CONFERENCE OR ACTIVITY.

The following guidelines are the dress code for the Washington DECA 2019 Fall Leadership Conference.

(When appearing before judges, General Sessions)

Females:Dresses (professional business, no shorter than knee length), dress slacks, skirts (no shorter than knee length), button-up blouses or collared shirts, and dress shoes.

Males: Business suit or sport coat with dress slacks, collared dress shirt and necktie; dress shoes and socks.

(Travel to/from conferences, Distracted Driving Summit, and non-conference activities such as shopping, sightseeing, or going out for meals)

Females:Slacks, skirts (no shorter than knee length), blouses, sports shirts, knee-length walking shorts, and DECA t-shirts and sweatshirts.

Males: Slacks, knee length walking shorts, sport shirts, and DECA t-shirts and sweatshirts.

The following are unacceptable during DECA activities:

Delegates are not allowed to wear pajama pants, shorts, swimwear or any attire besides DECA Professional or Business Casual, outside of their hotel room or immediate area.
