Despite advances in medicine, every procedure and surgery has risks. When seconds count, when medical emergencies or other complications occur unexpectedly, physician anesthesiologists draw on their comprehensive medical education, years of clinical training and experience to make critical decisions that can save lives before, during and after surgery.

Nurse anesthetists play a valuable role on the Anesthesia Care Team but cannot replace a physician. Physician anesthesiologists complete nearly double the education and 10 times the clinical training of nurse anesthetists. There is no comparison.
