2 String a twisted-wire needle on the end of a silk cord without

the attached needle. Center a bead on the silk cord. Center the strung bead between the leather cords near the button. Bring each end of the silk cord around the leather cords and up through the middle. To anchor the bead, string each end of the silk cord through the bead in opposite directions.

When I was gathering the supplies to make these Chan Luu-style leather bracelets, Dawn Sklare from Chelsea’s Beads offered me a few pointers. She told me large-hole beads are a must, and to use an extra strand of beads and two cards of silk cord for a triple-wrap bracelet. By tying the ends of the silk cord together and anchoring the knot under the first bead, you can make an extra-long bracelet that can also serve as a necklace.

4 Continue stringing beads as in step 3 until your bracelet is

within 3 in. (7.6 cm) of the finished length. String the silk cord through the last bead again, and tie two or three surgeon’s knots (Basics) to anchor the bead. Apply glue to the knots and trim the excess silk cord. The knot may or may not slip inside the last bead.

3 Bring each end of the silk cord around the leather cords and

up through the middle again. String the silk cord in opposite directions through the next bead, Pull the ends of the silk cord to tighten it.

5 With both ends of the leather cord, tie an overhand knot next

to the last bead. Tie another overhand knot to form a loop to accommodate the button. Trim the excess leather.
