V O L U M E 3 : I S S U E 3
M A R C H 2 0 1 8
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride.
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast
Save in the death of Christ, my God;
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.
See, from His head, His hands, His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a tribute far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all!

Men’s Ministry BIBLICAL STEWARDSHIP
Hudson Taylor, a Nineteenth Century British missionary to China, is reported to have said, “God’s work, done in God’s way, will not lack God’s supply.” To know God’s way, we need to know His Holy Word. Or to say it another way: you need to know your Bible. St. Paul, before he spends two chapters on giving, wrote that every thought is to be taken captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5). Doctrine matters. And doctrine matters because the Scriptures matter. And the Scriptures matter be-cause this is where we learn the teaching of Christ. Our thoughts must be brought into line with the teaching of Scripture so that our work is what God wants done and so that we do this work in His way. A good tree bears good fruit. A bad tree bears bad fruit. We have been made good trees in holy bap-tism. We are fertilized and pruned for bearing good fruit by constantly hearing God’s Word preached and taught in sermon and Bible Class and in receiving the life-giving, faith-sustaining food of the Lord’s Supper. Remember your doctrine, hold on to the Lord’s teaching, and your thoughts will be taken cap-tive to the obedience of Christ. Bringing every thought captive to the obedience of Christ is recognizing that God does provide. The Lord’s Prayer teaches us to pray for daily bread. Praying this day in and day out reminds us that the Lord is the giver of our daily bread, and that we are to gives thanks for His daily provision of it. God is rarely early and never late in His work, as Abraham learned, “on the mount of the Lord it will be provided” (Gen. 22:14). The Lord’s generosity forms our generosity in return. Thus, we set aside for the work of God a generous, first-fruits, proportion of the daily bread that God has given to us. This act of trust in the Lord’s provision is the working out of our faith in Him. When budgetary discussions pop up, our natural reaction is to point fingers. But remember your doc-trine, and what your mother taught about pointing fingers. Our first natural reaction is not always right. In fact, when our thoughts are brought into captivity of Christ, our first reaction should be re-pentance. It should raise questions in our own lives. As good trees in Christ who are to bear good fruit, we should ask whether our thoughts are taken captive by obedience to Christ. Have we given generously? Have we given our first-fruits? You know. And God knows. “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro through-out the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chron. 16:9). God will provide. He always has and He always will. He gives His meat in due season. He has not left you as orphans, but has grafted you into His own family. You belong to Him. Remember this, letting this thought dwell in you richly. And you will then be rich toward others.
MUSIC NOTES Submitted by: Maria Klein
Make a joyful noise!
Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ! Our kids and adult choir members
have been working hard on music for the Lenten season! Adult choir sang an alternative beautiful version of 'When I Survey the Wondrous Cross' on
Wednesday the 21st. A huge thank you to all the kids and their parents who were able to lift our music praise to God on Sunday the 25th. They did a
great job with the 3rd and 4th commandment!
This month look out for special music women's choir piece on Palm Sun-
day, adult choir sings during holy week on Maundy Thurs, Good Friday, and Easter! Kids will be preparing for lots of music towards the month of
May! Its such a joy to glorify God through His gift of music. If you are in-terested in special music opportunities here at Risen Christ Lutheran, please contact me or say hi on Sunday! Stay warm and hydrated in these
final cool months because spring is on its way! Have a great March!"
“Every tithe of
the land,

the seed of
the land or of
the fruit of the
trees, it is the
Lord’s; it is
holy to the
Lord.”
Leviticus 27:30
The children and teachers are so excited to have warmer weather back. Even though there is a lot of mud, the children have enjoyed spending time outdoors. The children will start the month of March off with learning about trees and Zacchaeus climbing into a tree to see Jesus. Children will learn about the parts of a tree along with animals that live in trees and footprints of animals that enjoy our beautiful trees. The children will go from trees to gardening. The Bible story will talk about the good soil and the bad soil. The children will have the chance to examine seeds and how they grow into plants. From trees to plants, the children will learn about houses, and the Bible story focuses on the foolish man who built his house on the sand and the wise man who built his house on the rock. When the children have learned about the foolish man and the wise man, we head into the Easter holiday and the celebration of Jesus’ death and resurrection. The children begin to understand “mixed emotions” (sad that Jesus died but happy that he now lives) and how Easter is also about celebration. The children will be working on the letters: P, Q, R and S, the numbers: 7 through 10. The colors of green, brown, white and black will follow through with the themes of the month. Triangles, squares, rectangles and the cross will be the shapes for the month. March 19 – 23 the school age children will be off for spring break. Families needing child care for school age, please contact us. This is the first year the center will be closing at 12:00 pm on Good Friday. We are giving our teachers the opportunity to attend church service that day. We have started our summer school age registration. Come check out our summer school age program. In Christ Terrie

“BAPTISM MEANS TODAY” “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught and overflowing with thankfulness” Col. 2:6-7 What does Baptism mean to us today, do we remember the day we were baptized? Most of us have no memory as we were baptized as infants, but God’s Word tells us to remember our bap-tism daily, with overflowing thankfulness, washed in the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ. Having received Christ in faith, we are to live that life in Him, through Bible studies, devotions, etc., and meet the challenges of life in faith and calm hearts. Treasure our baptism daily and overflow with God’s faithfulness and thanksgiving. “LOVE PACKAGES”: (Mission materials) Items continue to be collected for the Love Packages, box for them in the West coatroom. Based on the Biblical account of the widow’s mite (Luke 21:1-4), the Mite Box is intended for regular contributions of ‘mites’ - offerings above and beyond the support given to congregations and the LCMS. Mite Box contributions amount to millions of dollars that fund district and national mission grants and implement the LWML program.
Each month we will highlight the grants supported by your generous mite gifts.
Lutheran Heritage Foundation: Children’s Books for Families Worldwide
In many parts of the world, the Lutheran Church is growing among young
believers eager to pass along their new faith to their children, but there are not
enough Lutheran children’s books in their own language. Lutheran Heritage Foundation is translating, publishing, and distributing children’s books into
many languages. This Mission Grant will provide Lutheran churches worldwide, missionaries, and families around the
globe with 20,000 translated books that will share Bible stories and assist with
teaching children about God’s gifts and salvation for generations to come.
