THEATER NIGHT THANK YOU!
Our theater night fundraiser “Don’t Dress for Dinner” made the church a little over $1000! Thank you to everyone who participated. It was an “affair” to remember! Special thanks to Nancy Kranz and Mike
Pabian for their many weeks of hard work making the evening successful. Many thanks to Nancy Kranz,
Amira Boctor and Jodi Cicirello and all our bakers for providing and selling the intermission snacks.

Place February Manna Orders This Sunday, February 1 Stop by the Manna table to pick up and fill out an order sheet for cards to be delivered on Sunday, February 15th. Not all January Manna orders
have been picked up so please remember your checkbooks. Replenished table cards will also be available for immediate purchase.
Fair Trade Table Open Just in time for Valentine’s Day and Heart to Heart the fair trade table is back to offer you conscious consumer choices for celebrating, gift giving, & coffee drinking. Get a new Keurig for Christmas? We have 2 organic fair trade coffees in recyclable k cups. Fun new valentine treats will be on
the table as well to celebrate the one you love, and as always our organic chocolates are available in oodles of flavors & sizes.
It’s Budget Time! Stay informed! Help make decisions! Have your opinions heard! During the month of February, we will be hosting two important 2015-16 budget meetings:
The first of the two meetings will be held on February 12th at 7:00pm in Joshi Chapel. During this time, the Circle Coordinators will present their
plans for the coming year and the budget figures they need to accomplish their goals.
On February 26 at 7:00pm in Joshi Chapel, discussions will include our income streams, fundraising goals and projected pledge increases in order to make our total budget balanced. All are welcome and encouraged to come and be part of the process.

Growth and Learning
Race: The Power of an Illusion Class Sunday, Feb. 8 at 12noon
Led by Rev Pam, these classes will be offered in the New Year. Based on the PBS documentary of the same name this class will explore the origins of the social construct of Race. With Race dominating national discussions this fall, this class aims to offer a solid foundation of facts upon which
to begin doing anti-racism, anti-oppression, and inter-cultural competency work. The Class is divided into three sections with each section having
two opportunities for participation. Sign up sheets will be available in the Alice Warren Room but you can also contact the office to indicate partici-
pation. This is a fascinating documentary with follow up discussion questions.
Class #2 Feb. 8, 12:00 pm or Feb. 10, 7:00 pm in the sanctuary~“The Story We Tell” uncovers the roots of the race concept, including the 19th-century science that legitimated it and the hold it has gained over our minds. It’s an eye-opening tale of how America’s need to defend slavery in
the face of a radical new belief in freedom and equality led to a full-blown ideology of white supremacy. The program traces the transformation of
tentative suspicions about difference into a "common-sense" wisdom that people used to explain everything from individual behavior to the fate of whole societies, an idea of race that persists to this day.
The Shared Pulpit Worship Class – UCH Feb 14 – May 2, 2015 Offered by Pam Rumancik & Karen Mooney
Text - The Shared Pulpit: A Sermon Seminar for Lay People by Erika Hewitt
This class will include eight sessions designed to explore the work of creating reflective, passionate and theologically grounded sermons. It will follow the text and create space for journaling, discussion and exploration of the topic. We hope everyone will commit to regular attendance be-
cause the group dynamics will be an important part of the growth process.
New UU Classes Scheduled Sunday, February 15, 22 and March 1 at 12 noon
Are you new to our church or denomination? Have you been looking for more information about Unitarian Universalism? Are you thinking about
becoming a member of UCH? If so, the New UU course might be for you. In three interactive sessions, participants will enjoy the opportunity to
share their personal religious journeys and learn more about Unitarian Universalism and the various activities of the Hinsdale Unitarian Church. Guests of the program may include the minister, representatives of the Board of Trustees and members of various church committees. We will

Social Responsibility First Sunday Collection
Sunday, Feb. 1 Sunday’s offering will go to Open Door, the only subur-
ban patient centered medical home that is welcoming to the
LGBT community, providing health education and care for
people with HIV/AIDS regardless of ability to pay.
Please use the following guidelines in making your donation:
---If you wish to write a check directly to the organization,
make it out to “Open Door”.
---If you prefer to make your donation via a check written to
UCH, you must indicate “Open Door” in the memo. Save the canceled check for tax deduction purposes, as such donations
through UCH will NOT be reflected on your year end state-
ments from UCH.
---If you are placing a pledge payment or other contribution to UCH in the offertory, please indicate your intention in the
memo of the check.
The Touchstone Instead of a monthly “announcement based” format, The Touch-
stone will be published bimonthly and will include more
“feature type” articles. As we continue to work on our mission statement as a church community, we will also continue the
process of rebranding and renaming our newsletter. To that end,
we will be accepting suggestions for a new name for the next several months while we continue the mission statement pro-
cess in the congregation . The deadline for the next Touchstone is February 15. Articles
should be kept to a 300 to 500 word count. They will be edited
for length and content. Submit articles to our editor, Linda Kar-len Elliott, at [email protected]. Please feel free to
steer any questions to Paula Sejut–Dvorak, our Communica-
tions Circle Coordinator, and/or Linda Liberacki, Director of
Operations.
Got Heirlooms?! Sunday, Feb. 8 at 12noon
Join us for a seminar and discussion led by Mary Russell of Contrary Mary's Plants & Design in Minooka, Illinois on Sunday, February 8th, at
noon in Joshi (note the change in location). Topics include “What are Heirlooms?” “Why Grow Them?” “General Care & Planting, and Spe-
cific Varieties of Tomatoes and Peppers”. The seminar is free of charge
so invite any friends, neighbors, or relatives who might be interested.
Heart to Heart The Heart To Heart secret friend program is in full swing!
If you have chosen to have a pal please make sure you honor your com-mitment by doing something nice for them at least once a week between
now and Sunday, February 8th.
Seniors Invited to Defer Property Taxes for
2014 Real Estate Taxes Qualified senior citizens aged 65 years and older are invited to apply for the Senior Citizens’ Real Estate Tax Deferral Program offered by the
State of Illinois through the DuPage County Treasurer’s office. This
program allows qualified senior citizens to defer up to $5,000 of their current property tax amount. To qualify, the senior citizen’s household
income cannot exceed $55,000. Additionally, the property must be used exclusively for the owner’s primary residence.
The application period closes March 2, 2015. You may either call the
DuPage County Treasurer’s Office at (630)407‑5900 or go online at treasurer.dupageco.org for more information.
Home and Gardens
Together We Take Pride We are lucky to be part of this wonderful community. Together, we
“design” our church! We choose a minister, pledge support and vote for
board members. Many volunteer for committees that reflect our values. The board and committees are instrumental in creating our church
“design”. But for some of us, this kind of time commitment is impossi-ble.
There are many ways to help out at UCH. Not all of them require a long
term commitment. Do you have an hour or so to help keep our buildings tidy and neat? Whether it’s an ongoing commitment or a one time offer,
I could really use your help!
Let’s make sure our church reflects how much it is truly loved and re-spected. Every bit of help is valued and appreciated. Done at your con-
venience, bring a buddy to make it a social event or use it a “Family Service” project.

Save the Dates! Installation, April 12, 2015
Rev Pam Rumancik will be officially installed as the newly called minister of UCH on April 12th at 3:00 pm. The Rev Dr Thandeka, na-tionally known UU theologian and academic, will be officiating as we celebrate this milestone in the life of the church. Installations are
times to both celebrate the beginning of a new ministry and to announce to the larger community that the church is embarking on a new
chapter and excited about its future. Leaders from the community, both religious and secular are invited to be part of the celebration.
“The Heart of Our Liberal Faith: Love Beyond Belief”, Friday April 10 & Saturday April 11
Thandeka will be offering a special Workshop titled “The Heart of Our Liberal Faith: Love Beyond Belief” which explores the center of our Unitarian Universalist faith and helps to find clarity in steering the church into a bright future. The workshop will be Friday April 10
& Saturday April 11th – Mark your Calendars. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend this exciting opportunity. Watch for
