Room 9 Alison Marsh

Room 9s major focus this term is the Olyphant Awards in the subject STEM, all the kids in Room 9 have been enjoying stem and constructing their Olyphant Awards. This Olyphant Award was made and constructed by Lewis, Matilda and Oskar. They all enjoyed making this.

Long walk

Room 9 liked the long walk and I’m sure the other classes did too. The year sevens from Room S7 and the year sixes from Room 5 enjoyed it because it was enjoyable and they all got to see their friends and walk with them for a day and have lots of fun.

Play is the way

Room 9 have been doing Play is the Way. The students favourite game to play is space ships and aliens. They liked it because they had to work in pairs and tell the other person to come towards you and direct them from the obstacles blind folded.

Room 5’s Main Learning Projects In this week’s newsletter we are visiting classrooms to find their main focus for this term. We have been chosen to interview Room 5 which is our classroom. Our classroom’s main focus is literacy.

The Room 5 students have recently finished a project to improve their literacy and vocabulary skills. The task was to finish a whole page of descriptive writing based on a picture that they had drawn.

It had to be exactly a page and have lots of interesting words that they’d not usually use in their everyday writing. The reason for the activity was to expand their vocabulary and think more about the amount of words to use in certain tasks. This activity also helps with the ability to describe an image.

Room 5 has also worked on an ANZAC day art/ writing project. They had to write a poem on war as well as a paragraph on what they thought ANZAC Day was about. Then they got a photo copy of a soldier In front of a lined background and had to draw patterns and drawings about ANZAC Day and wars. In doing this the students learned a bit more about ANZAC Day and they also had to complete their work by a certain time period.

S7 class - Mrs Rixon

By Tahnee & Sterre In the S7 class they have been learning about the long walk. The year 6/7’s have also done a long walk play at assembly that you may have seen. We have been interviewing some students about the play and the long walk.

The S7 class have been respecting the pioneer women that walked to the markets in Adelaide and back twice a week, bare foot in bad conditions, carrying bricks and goods.

We interviewed James from Room S7, about Sean Choolburra. James said he was very entertaining, very enjoyable, he had a funny personality and he involved everyone. We enjoyed Juju On That Beat and Gammin Style and his groovy dance moves and music. We also loved his dragonfly dance and we loved learning about his culture.

Sunday 18th June at Victoria Park was the first Pedal Prix race for 2017. We have one team of 9 students riding in a new look Red Baron. The students rode very well and it was a great day. Thank you for the amazing effort to each and every rider and also to the managers and parents for a wonderful day. Great team work!

Pedal Prix was fabulous. I got to go last and finish the race. The atmosphere was crazy in a good way and I would recommend it for other people. Cameron, Rm 5

Pedal Prix is a great experience and is loads of fun. I liked the challenge. Amy-Lee, Rm 5

On Sunday I completed in the Victoria Park 6 hour Pedal Prix race. I was really excited and proud of my efforts when we came 172th overall. Abbey, Rm 5

I arrived at the race a little nervous but full of excitement. When the race started, a girl crashed right in front of our tent which made me even more nervous. When I was in the car, all I thought about was catching the person in front of me. I loved sitting in the corner watching all the crashes happen. I came out of the day with many memories and many more challenges to come my way. Cooper, Rm S7
