Europa Cantat Main stage Piazza San Carlo, from 27 July to 5 AugustItaly will for the first time welcome Europa Cantat, the leading European choral festival that brings together singers, conductors, prestigious choirsand fansofsinging todiscover traditionsandcultures fromallover theworldthrough music. 4,000 people have already confirmed their attendance at thewholeevent,inadditiontoaconsiderablenumberofpeoplewhowilltakepartforashorterperiod.Theeventisstructuredtoensurethateverydayfollowsapreciseschedule.Themorningswillbededicated to training,allowingsingers(fromnovices through toexperts) tostudy important parts of the repertoirewithinternational maestrosinover 50 music workshops.Theafternoonswillseeconcerts and events in the city centregivenbyparticipatingchoirsandguestensembles.At8pmeveryevening,underthemainstageinPiazza San Carlo, therewillbeopen singing,wheremembersof thepubliccanperforminternationalsongs,conductedbyachoralmaestro.From9pmtop artists and guest choirswillperform in thecity’ssquaresandbest-knownconcerthalls,withthefinalinstalmentofthenight-time concertsat11pm.OrganisedbytheEuropa Cantat Torino 2012 Association.

The King’s paintingsUntil 9 SeptemberThisexhibition ismadeupof two displays: Prince Eugene’s Collections in theArt RoomsofthePalace of VenariaandTurin, Europe. The great artworks of the Savoy Gallery,exhibitedintheNew WingoftheRoyal Palace of Turin.

Palazzo Reale, Manica Nuova The exhibition in the New Wing of the Royal Palace is based around 95 artworks createdbetween the 14th and the 19th century.Bothsculpturesand,predominantly,paintings areondisplay, chosen from themore than1,200works thatmakeup theSavoycollection,andsubjectedtocarefulconservationwork.ThepaintingsforwhichSavoy is known all over the world are also present, from St. Francis Receiving the StigmatabyJan van EyckandAnnunciationbyOrazio GentileschitotheEquestrian portrait of Thomas Francis of Carignan, Duke of SavoybyAntony van Dyck.

Fairy Tales and Magic. The Guidobonos painters of the baroque periodPalazzo Madama - Piano nobile, until 2 SeptemberThisexhibition,curatedbyMary Newcome Schleier, Giovanni Romano and Gelsomina Spione, is dedicated to the career of the brothers Bartolomeo and Domenico Guidobono,paintersoriginallyfromSavona,whobetween1708and1721weregiventhetaskofcoveringthevaultsoftheroyalapartmentofMarieJeanneBaptisteofSavoy-NemoursatPalazzoMadamainfrescoes.Thisisanopportunitytodiscovertwolittle-knownfiguresfromtheartisticsceneinTurinoftheera,twopainterswholefttheirbestworkontheceilings of Palazzo Madama,butwhoalsoproducedanenormousnumberofpaintings on canvas.TheGiudobonobrothersintroducedthelight and playful characteristics of the great Genoese Baroque ornamentation to Piedmont, choosing to depict mythological tales, biblical stories and sacred subjects, still life and magical scenes. Theexhibitionincludespaintings, drawings and engravings.Theworksarepresentedinchronological order,highlightingthespecificcharacteristicsofthetwopainters,theirinfluenceoneachotherandthevariousphasesoftheircollaboration.TheGuidobonos’worksarecomplementedbyexamplesofgreatGenoesesupportingartistsandotherartistswhowereinfluentialintheirtraining,withworksbyDomenico Piola, Gregorio De Ferrari and Daniel Seyter, whilst a small selection of ceramicsrecallstheworkcarriedoutbytheGuidobonofamilyinSavona.Theexhibitionisenhancedbyanumberofengravings by Rembrandt and Castiglioneandadisplayofdesigns and sketches by Piola and De FerrarifromtheDrawingsandPrintsRoomofPalazzo Rosso in Genoa.

Fang Lijun. The precipice above the clouds GAM Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Exhibition Area, from 22 June to 30 SeptemberThis is the first major exhibition in Italy dedicated toFang Lijun, aChineseartistgreatlyacclaimedinhisowncountry,withexhibitionsintheworld’s most important galleriesunderhisbelt,andwhofeaturesinmanyinternational museum collections(the Saatchi Gallery in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the MoMAin New York). Fang Lijun was one of the principle exponents of Cynical Realism, amovement that developed in China during the 1990s that focused on analysing thesocial and political history of 20th century China-fromtherevolutionof1911andtheMaoistrevolutionof1949tothecurrenteconomicboom,treatedwithcutting irony and aggressive humour.Thisretrospectivedisplaysworkswhichhadastrongimpact,witharound40 large-scalerecentlyproducedworks,between 2006 and the present day.The exhibition is curated by Danilo Eccher, Director of the GAM, and organised incollaborationwith importantChinese institutions, including theNAMOC (NationalArtMuseumofChina)andtheMinsheng Art MuseuminShanghai.

Thomas Schütte. Frauen Castello di Rivoli, Museo d’Arte ContemporaneaUntil 23 SeptemberThis first Italian exhibition dedicated to the German artist considers his series ofFrauen,theextraordinaryfemale figureswithbodiessubjectedto spatial and physical deformations.TheFrauen,madefrombronzeoraluminium,weretakendirectlyfromceramicmodelschosen from120 different modelsmadebetween 1997 and 1999.Fortheveryfirsttimetheeighteen FrauenareallpresentedtogetherintheevocativesettingoftheManica Lunga,theancient18thcenturySavoypicturegallery,sixmetreswideand146metreslong.TheFrauenareaccompaniedbythecompletecollectionoftheirpreliminary ceramic versionsandbyone hundred watercoloursfromtheartist’sprivatecollection.Two unusual bronze sculpturesbytheartist,eachfourmetreshigh,calledUnited Enemies,arealsoondisplay,facingeachotherinasuggestiveposeandwelcomingvisitorsattheentrancetotheCastle.Theexhibition,runinclosecollaborationwiththeartist,iscuratedbyAndrea Bellini,co-directoroftheCastleofRivoliandDieter Schwarz,DirectoroftheKunstmuseumWinterthur.

Marisa Merz. Disegnare disegnare ridisegnare il pensiero immagine che cammina Fondazione Merz, until 16 SeptemberThisisalargeretrospective exhibition dedicated to Marisa Merz,thesecondpartofawide-rangingprojectincollaborationwiththeQuerini Stampalia Foundation in Venice,where in summer 2011 the exhibition Marisa Merz – non corrisponde eppur fiorisce (Marisa Merz - it doesn’t match yet it flourishes) was held. The exhibition, designedfor the Merz Foundation, displays the full range of the artist’s means of expression:drawing on various mediums, raw clay sculptures, copper wire and nylon weaving, and objects transformed by wax. There is a multitude of works, both recent andhistoric,fromasfarbackatthemid1960s,andoftenunusual,createdbythemeticuloushand of Marisa Merz herself with the aim of expressing the intimate and visionary characteristics of her poetics.Theaimistodiscoverhowtheartistworked,herwayofseeingtheartandofcreatingconstantly new and unpredictable connections and links of meaningbetweenherworks,therebybuildingacreative universewhichwelcomesandinvolvesthevisitor.

Meteorite in GiardinoThefifthseasonofart, musicanddancewilltakeplaceduringJune and July in parallel with the exhibition,basedaround the figure of Marisa Merz.

Under the road, the beach Fondazione Sandretto Re RebaudengoUntil 5 AugustThisexhibition,organisedincollaborationwithVictoria - the Art of being Contemporary in Moscow, is the final part of the sixth Young Curators Residency programme,organised by Benoit Antille (Sierre, Switzerland, 1975), Michele Fiedler (Santurce,PuertoRico,1981)andAndrey Parshikov(Moscow,1985).The title is inspiredbyaslogan fromtheMay 1968 protests in France – “Sous les pavés, la plage”,andaimstoexploretheimportanceofmakinggesturesandtakingpositionsthatredefinetherelationofviewerstoreality.Works were chosen by contemporary artists who experiment with strategies that disrupt the status quoorwhousecounter-narrativesinordertocreatenewdynamicsand conditions for visibility within the socio-political, cultural and urban context ofmodernItaly.Theartistsdisplayedinclude:Yuri Ancarani, Francesco Arena, Tommaso De Luca, Helena Hladivola, Liliana Moro, Alessandro Quaranta, Mirko Smerdel, Valentina Vetturi.

Greater Torino. Rä di Martino e Laura Pugno Fondazione Sandretto Re RebaudengoUntil 5 AugustThis is the third exhibition in the Greater Torino cycle,devotedtoyounger generation artistswhoweretrained in Turin or now work in the city.Thetwoartistsinthisjointexhibition,despiteusingdifferentartisticapproachesandmeansofexpression,bothfocustheirstudiesonthetheme of landscape,whethernaturalorarchitectural,viewedasaspace for physical and mental experience, as a cultural construct, and as the object of visions and representations.Rä di Martino,whohasalwaysexploredtheexpressiveandsymbolicfieldofcinema,withthehelpofphotographs, slides, installations and a video workanalysesaseriesofold, abandoned film setsinthedesertsofTunisiaandMorocco,discoveringinthemanew, unstable identity.Laura Pugno, meanwhile, focuses on natural environments, and in particular theMonviso mountain range, which is the object of a number of her works, includingdrawings, engravings and manipulated photo works.Herethelandscapeissubjectedto a process of decomposition, revealing fragmentary perspectives and unusualpointsofviewinaprocessofliberationandtransformation.

Henri Cartier-Bresson PhotographePalazzo RealeUntil 9 SeptemberAretrospectivewhichpayshomagetothegeniusFrenchphotographer,aprojectbornfromthecollaborationbetweentheHenri Cartier-Bresson Foundation and Magnum Photos, the renowned photo agency which Henri Cartier-Bresson himself helped tofoundin1947.Over 130 black and white photographsareondisplay,takenbetween the early 1930s and the end of the 1970s,whichtogethertellthestoryofthephotographerwhohasbeendubbed‘the eye of the century’.HenriCartier-Bressonexploredthegreatartistic,politicalandsocialmovementsofourtimewithgreatclarity,managingtoimmortalisehistorical eventslike China at the end of the Kuomintang,thefuneral of Mahatma Gandhi in India and the Dessau transit camp in Germany in 1945. Next to theseimages,whicharealreadyimprintedinthecollectiveconsciousness,arephotographs of common people-women,children,workers,theelderly,caughtintheactofmakingagestureorinadevelopingsituation,anddemonstratingtheimmediatenatureofreality.The imagesondisplay represent thepoetics of the kairòs - theopportunemoment-perfectly,and theyshowhowCartier-Bresson leftan indelible mark on the art of photography,managingtocapturethesecret analogies between the subject and its surroundings.

The Tiffany Silver of Palazzo MadamaPalazzo MadamaThisexhibitionmarks thestartof the initiative“Opere in primo piano” (Artworks in close-up), dedicated to works subjected to important restoration work or in-depthstudies,eventuallybeingputonPERMANENT DISPLAY.Ondisplay,more thanonehundred yearson, is thesilver given by the United States to Federico Sclopis, alawyerandsenatorfromTurin,whowasnominatedbyVictorEmmanuelIIasaDelegatefrom the Kingdom of Italy at the Arbitration Tribunal of Geneva. Sclopis’ diplomaticabilityearnedhimtwoimportantofficialawards-theTiffany service,madebyEugène Soligny, a gift from the American government, and a planter from the Garrard silversmiths in London,agiftfromQueenVictoria.Thefive magnificent piecesareproofofthefashionattheGreatFairsofthelate19thcenturyforlarge-scalesilverware,decoratedwiththreedimensionalfiguresinarevivalistand academic style. The decision to enhance them now through a new cleaning programme,aswellaspayinghomagetoanimportantfigureinthepoliticallifeofTurininthesecondhalfofthenineteenthcentury,alsounderlinesthecurrentprinciplesofthemuseum,whichisdedicatedtostudying,exhibitingandacquiringdecorativeartworksfromthe19thand20thcenturies.

Chao KaoFondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengountil 5 AugustArtland is a new season curated by Francesco Bonami dedicated to emerging artists,whichbeginswithanexhibitiondedicatedtoChao Kao.BorninChinain1978butadoptedimmediatelybyaPolishcouple,ChaoKaolivedinPolandformanyyears,andcurrentlyresidesintheUSA.Hisbiography is marked by separation,bybeingoutofplace,andthisisreflectedinhispaintings.ChaoKao’sworksexpressdesperation,asortofminimalism lacking any theory or ideology.Hisrecurringthemesrefertoideasoflinksandunion.Astheartistexplained:“Ilikeanonymous containers...Shoelaces,cornersandpipesallservetocontainsomething,touniteonepointwithanother”.ThecuratorFrancescoBonamisaid:“ChaoKaohaschosentostayatthemargins,observingtheworld.Theforceofhisworkisnottheresultofisolation,butofstayingincontactwiththerestoftheworld,whilstkeepinghisdistance”.ChaoKaoisalsoaself-taughtpoet.Everyworkondisplayisaccompaniedbya short poem,whichtheartistcallszwykly (simple).

Standard & Poor’s, On The Way, The Price Of GlassFondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo until 5 AugustThe first exhibition in ItalydedicatedtotheFrenchartistJulien Creuzet(1986),thisdisplay brings together a group of works from the Standard & Poor’s project. Thetitle, inspiredbythenameofoneofthemajor internationalcreditratingagencies,onthe one hand refers to the crisis of popular sovereignty when faced with financialstrongholds,andontheotherhandactsasapowerfulpresent-day allegory,playingontheliteralmeaningofthetwowordsthatmakeupthename.Theworksondisplaycombinereferencestothepersonal historyoftheartistwiththedynamics of finance and power that control the modern world. Creuzet creates short circuits betweendifferent materials (this exhibition brings together in particular a series of works on glass),personalvisions,researchintothepastandsurveysofthepresent,givinglifetosituationswhichcanbeinterpretedinmanydifferentwaysbythevisitor.

Creative devotion from monasteriesPinacoteca AgnelliApril 5 - September 2 Theexhibitionproposesaselectionofthemostimportantpaperoles o papier roulés made between the 17th and the 19th Century and which now belong to privatecollections.Thetermpaperoleindicatesaparticulartypeofreliquary for domestic or convent use,traditionallymadeofpaperbynunsinseclusion,enrichedwithelaborateandaccuratecompositions made of paper and other material–suchaswax,ivory,glassandcrystal–placedtoadornthereliquarycontainedinside.Therichnessofthedecorationcorrespondswithastrongsymbolic value,whichreturnstothethemeoffertilityandlife,whilethe iconographyrevealsprecisetheological and hagiographic references.Around120-125of themost refinedexampleswill beunited for thefirst time, somecoming from the private collection of the American photographer Nan Goldin, whopresents new photos purposely conceived for this exhibition.
