What’s On and When

Andy is a contemporary one man blues band - a unique

act that delivers off-beat blues and raucous rock and roll

with surrealist humour. The topics of his songs range

from Pot Noodle to the Meaning Of Life via Luxembourg

and chickens. His musicianship is second to none

playing drums, guitar, and harmonica simultaneously, as

well as singing live.

Andy started playing music in pubs and clubs from the

age of 12. Inspired by the blues greats, he developed his

own one man band sound. He has become a

professional musician gigging at many venues and

festivals all over the UK, and has also been featured in

‘Blues in Britain’ and ‘Blues Matters’ Magazines.

Andy Twyman

Described as "like a young Billie Holiday gate-crashing a Tom Waits Swordfishtrombones recording session", blues and roots duo Ma Polaine's Great Decline follow their debut album with a third EP release, Small Town Talk. Recorded in 2015 and engineered and co-produced by BBC Folk Award winner Ben Walker, the 4-track EP draws influence from a typically wide breadth of genres.

From the start Beth Packer and Clinton Hough always sought to keep their song-writing influences open. A strong base of blues is there, with jazz and country also holding sway, original writing is the focus, with oddness, sparsity and a subtle quality that is their own. There is a freedom for Packer to explore her vocal qualities and lyric writing, creating tales of haunting beauty, veiled sorrow, and a darker image of happiness.

The live band has moved through several line-ups and have recently returned to their roots as a duo. On stage, Packer moves between double bass, accordion and harmonica, with Hough on electric or acoustic guitar and an occasional percussive foot, all accompanying Packer's powerful yet sensitive vocal.

Rainbreakers 4.50pm

Laura Holland Band 6.20pm

www.laurahollandband.co.uk

The Laura Holland Band is a seven-piece British blues band taking inspiration from the golden

ages of Chess and Stax Records. Fronted by singer and songwriter Laura Holland, the London-

based band play an organic set of original compositions mixed with lesser-known, but historically

significant, songs from the blues and soul legends of the 50s and 60s. Live and in the studio the

band work the old fashioned way, with tape, valves, vintage instruments and alcohol.

What’s On and When

Rainbreakers are a four piece rock outfit

that create a raw and hard-hitting

sound. Influences can be heard from a

range of different styles that echo back

to the stylings of the late 60s and 70s,

layering a combination of rock, pop,

blues and soul. Holding on to tradition,

but by no means purists, Rainbreakers

indicate a fascination with older artists

such as Free and Hendrix, yet the band

draws significant influence from the

contemporary sounds of The Black

Keys, Gary Clark Jr and Monophonics.

Since their formation in 2012, Rainbreakers have played countless amounts of shows at club

venues and festival stages, resulting in the development of their own sound that truly represents

themselves as well as the experiences they share. The band’s impassioned and fervent live

performance has given leverage to acquire a strong and honest following in their hometown and

across the country.
