Hi all friends all over the world,
Summer 2011 EPSFers invite all students from all over the world to come visit
Egypt and discover the magical spirit of one of the oldest countries all over the
world.
A journey waits to come unfold the history of 7000 years as Egypt has been a
cradle of civilization and a center for aspiration. It is a chance to visit and live
the moment where ancestors were actually writing history with their own
hands through the temples of Luxor and Aswan.
Not only live the moment of the ancestors but also meet Egypt's youth who also
made history last winter after January 25th
and brought peace to life. Now we feel the
taste of freedom, we feel proud and always expect the best. Egypt's inspirational
story can't be missed you can't miss seeing freedom in the Middle East.
So you can live the moment through Egypt oldest monuments, share the greatest
time with Egyptians throughout various trips discovering Egypt's culture, discover the
deserts adventure, sailing through the Nile and have a great time on the beach in
Hurdaga.
Egyptians believe that "When people succeed, it is because of hard work". So summer
2011 we will grantee that you work hard with us throughout the intensive training.
You will experience the clinical pharmacy field in Egypt through one of the most
developed hospitals and world's number one Children's Cancer Hospital in the MiddleEast. In addition, train at the largest chain pharmacies in Egypt.

"The first thing to say is that really was a good experience and the best time I have ever had.
It was more funny than I expected. The hostel we stayed in was very comfortable and staff was very
friendly and funny. I couldnt attend the factory visit but hospital practice was great, more than I
expected and the pharmacy we had visited was the greatest one I have ever seen.
Cairo is really an active capital and also other cities are certainly showplace. I still cant
understand how the people made the pyramids, temples and tombs! The most important thing is
that the Egyptian team was wonderful and all students were very concerned, friendly and funny.
My advice to all pharmaceutical students' is to have a SEP in Egypt where the holiday in
Hurghada, scuba in Red sea and other unforgettable things, and I guaranteed that you will never
forget it.
Id like to thank again all my Egyptian friends and my brother Hamza Ashraf."

Annie Cai
From Canada
"My name is Annie Cai, and I came to Egypt for
exchange from Toronto, Canada. I am currently
in my 3rd
year of studies in pharmacy, which is
a 4-year program.
My exchange trip was an amazing experience
and I learned a lot about the culture of Egypt,
the place of pharmacy in Egypt, as well as
pharmacy practice in Countries of other
exchange students. During my trip, we had
training sessions at the Cairo Childrens CancerHospital on various aspects of hospital
pharmacy, including outpatient prescription
flow, rounds, formulation of total parenteral
nutrition, as well as daycare treatments. This is
very similar to the practice of hospital
pharmacy in Canada, and I was very glad to see
that the profession has evolved globally, and
that pharmacists are playing a much more
integral role in healthcare.
In our spare time, I had the opportunity to visit
many famous landmarks and learn about the
rich history and culture of the Egyptian Society.
It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn
and explore in the company of other eagerstudents as well as a very welcoming EPSF
crew! In addition to the amazing landmarks
such as the Pyramids, valley of the kings,
citadel at Alexandria and all the temples along
the Nile river, I was amazed and speechless at
the natural wonders of the nation, such as the
view from the peak of Mount Sinai, the
expansiveness of the white and black desert,
and of course the gorgeous scenery of Dahab
and the Red Sea.
I loved my time in Egypt and am exceptionally
grateful to have made so many amazing friends
in this 1 month. It is by far the best experience
of my life and I miss all the people and all the
places greatly! Thank you EPSF for making this
experience most memorable, and I hope you
will continue to make such a wonderful effort
for future exchange students so that they may
experience all that Egypt has to offer!"
Through tours of drug manufacturing plants
and community pharmacies, it is noticeable
that all aspects of pharmacy are growing, and
operation procedures and standards of
practice are very similar world-wide.

Eric ZaccaroFrom United States
For me, living in Egypt was such a
different world to me, and so amazing. For the
first week we volunteered in the world-famous
57357 Childrens Cancer Hospital, and this was
an amazing opportunity for us as we got to
participate in various fields around the
hospital, including stations such as TPN,
compounding, infectious disease rounds,
radiation, the day-center, and many others.
Thus, it gave us an eclectic learning experience
about clinical pharmacy in this setting.
"My name is Eric Zaccaro, and I currently attend the
University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy in Connecticut,USA. I am currently in my 4
thout of 6 years in the program
(Pharm D), and I am also applying for a combined MBA program,
which will add another year. I love to travel and learn from other
cultures, and the International Pharmaceutical Students
Federation (IPSF) has given me great opportunities. This year I
was elected to the position of SEO-elect, and will become SEO in
the Fall of 2011.
The Mega Trip was such a remarkable
experience and we got to see so many thingsincluding Valley of the Kings, a Nile Cruise,
camping in the desert, Alexandria, Aswan,
Luxor, Hurghada, Dahab, and many others. Our
activities included dune buggies, snorkeling,
going to many tropical beaches, seeing many
ancient monuments, etc.
As well as the trip itself, all of the EPSF
students hosting us were so amazing and
hospitable all around. I made many life-long
friends, with which I stay in touch, and their
friendliness made the trip so much more
amazing. If I could do it all over again, I would
do it in a heartbeat."We also had the opportunity to view El-Ezaby
pharmacy, the countrys largest community
chain, and this was a great learning experience
as we got to see and compare how community
pharmacy was. Aside from this pharmacy
related learning, traveling around the country
and living in Cairo was all amazing in itself.

"My name is Matej Vuk, and I am a fourth year pharmacy student
at Pharmacy and Medical Biochemistry Faculty of the University
of Zagreb, Croatia. Also I contribute to our national CroatianPharmacy and Medical Biochemistry Students' Association (CPSA)
as a Secretary General. After the three years of college, hard work and studying, I decided that it is about time to have a
prolonged vacation. Since all of the students at our faculty have to do their training each year I
figured SEP would be something I would most benefit from. Egypt, as my SEP hosting country,
turned out to be a perfect fit.
My choice of the host country was quite quick, due to a couple of friends who have already done
SEP in Egypt, and their insightful experiences. EPSF as the host association was also very highly
recommended.
In organization of EPSF, I've spent the entire August doing the exchange. It was a perfect blend of
training, sightseeing and vacation.

Upon our arrival to Cairo, we were
accommodated in a small hotel in the centre of
the city. When I arrived, I also had the pleasure
of meeting the students from the previous
group. This gave me a great insight of what was
yet to come.
The first two weeks in Cairo were amazing. We
managed to do a one day trip to Alexandria,
see the pyramids, Cairo bazaar, old Muslim and
Coptic parts of Cairo, as well as all the other
attractions Cairo has to offer, like sailing on the
Nile on a Fluca, or visiting the traditional
dancing show...
Our next destination was Hurghada. It was
quite nice to take a rest, and relax after the
desert. We went snorkeling over a big reef,
which was quite impressive. From Hurghada
we continued our trip to Luxor, where we
stayed for a couple of days. Although too hot,
we managed to see everything there, and build
memories which will last a lifetime!
In Luxor, we stepped off of the hot sand and
got aboard a cruise ship. Our cruise to Aswan
lasted for three days and it was my favorite
part of the whole journey.
From Aswan we took a 1000 km train trip back
to Cairo and then continued by bus to Dahab. 3
days of pure relaxation filled our batteries foryet another trip back to Cairo.
The last days in Cairo were a bit sad as we all
knew that our trip is coming to an end. We did
our last souvenir shopping, exchanged photos,
and finally said goodbye.
During our stay, pharmacy students from Egypt
were with us at every step of the way. The
EPSF team really tried to do everything to
make our stay as comfortable as possible. Theybecame our true friends. EPSF proved that they
were there for us, and once again proved that
they have one of the best SEP programs in the
world."
Matej VukCroatia
In these two weeks we also did our training. It
consisted of a community pharmacy visit, a
factory visit, and a training in a Children'scancer hospital. The training in the hospital
was the longest, it lasted for 5 days. It also had
the biggest impact on us as a group, since most
of us had never done a training in a hospital. It
was very professional, well organized, and
memorable.
After our two weeks in Cairo, we started our
Mega trip.
Our first destination was the desert. Actually
we stayed in an oasis, and did a trip to the
desert where we also spent the night. One of
the best experiences of my life.

"My name is Pola (from Poland). Summer 2010 was a
special period for me: in July I graduated from my
pharmacy studies and I spent the whole August on
exchange programme in Egypt. At first I was a little bit
afraid I didnt know anyone and couldnt speak
fluently English but it turned out that it was
unnecessary.
In August, me and my friends from all over the world,
had the opportunity to sightsee almost the whole
Egypt: not only the most significant places like Cairo,
Khan-Al-Khalili bazar, The Pyramids, Temples in Luxor
and Aswan, but also Hurghada, Dahab, Coptic Cairo and
many others. The exchange programme gave me a
chance to get to know pharmacy in a different country
I spent one week on practice in Childrens Cancer
Hospital in Cairo, visited community pharmacy andspent one day in Delta Pharma Factory. If I would be
asked which memories I would cherished the most I
would definitely say that sleeping in the open air on the
Sahara desert and climbing the Sinai Mountain.
If you are from Poland where average temperature is
between 16-20 C during summer Egyptian weather
may be a little bit tiring. But luckily after sightseeing we
came back to air-conditioned rooms in our hotels.
To be honest I returned home very tired, because ourStudent Exchange Officer Hamza Ashraf did his best to
fulfill every single day. Thanks to him and the EPSF
members we have an amazing opportunity not only to
sightsee everything but also we had varied social
programme. Egyptian students who accompanied us all
the time were very patient and sacrifice their time for
us. Id like to thank all of EPSF members who take care
of me and my group!
This exchange programme was an unforgettable
experience. I met very astonishing and interesting
people, and I am sure that these friendships will last for
many years."

Raul Andrade MartinFrom Spain
"Hi!
My name is Raul Andrade Martin, I am from a little
city from the north-west of Spain called Santiago de
Compostela. I am currently pursuing my fourth year
of Pharmacy degree. I would like to keep studying till
I finish my PhD in Pharmacology.
When I went to Egypt (July 2010), I already knew that
I didn't want to develop my working life neither in a
pharmacy, industry or hospital, but, who could give
me the opportunity to try these specific fields of work
without compromising my future plans?
Everyone knows the answer: EPSF!
In Egypt I found a lot of beautiful things: knowledge,
experiences, fun and friendships. But regardless at all
things I learnt from the academic experiences, what I
loved more was the dedication with which the
organizer (Hamza Ashraf) and his crew (all my
Egyptian friends) gave us to make us enjoy the all the
trip.
One of my favorites' memories is our trip throughout
the Nile, where we had the opportunity to watch the
temples and to enjoying our free time in the pool!
I also would like to render thanks to all my SEPmates
for putting up with my madness, and letting me learn
more about them and their cultures.
Cheers for the trip of my life!"

Zoi - Maria GlarouFrom Greece
"Hello there! Greetings from cold Greece! How is the weather there? Still
hot, like last summer? Well, my name is Zoi Maria Glarou and I had the
honor to participate in SEP - Egypt, August 2010.
I just had finished my first year at the faculty of Pharmacy in Ovidius
University, Constanta, Romania and that is how my story begins.
First of August seemed to be a regular day just like any other, until I got to my rooms window and
looked outside. Cairo downtown was at my feet! A few meters away the Egyptian Museum was
standing imposingly while Tahrir square and the adjacent boulevards seemed so busy. Luckily,
everything was so quite up here! Most of us were already having breakfast in the small lobby of our
hostel and the first day of our adventure was about to start.
The idea came when a few months ago I received an email regarding Student Exchange Programme
of IPSF. Egypt seemed to have the most interesting offer as in their programme it was included
training to the 3rd
largest Children Cancer Hospital worldwide and 1st
one in Africa. Visits to
GlaxoSmithKline factory facilities as well as in the local Delta Pharma and visits to the largest
pharmacy chain in Egypt, Al Ezzaby.
My application was approved and the trip began
alongside 12 students from all over the world
accompanied by the most helpful and enthusiastic
team of EPSF. The month passed so quickly, full of
adventures, challenges and lots of fun among someof the nicest places in the country! 2 Croatian, 1
Canadian, 3 Polish, 2 Malaysian and finally 2 Greeks
(including me) filled our hearts and cameras with the
nicest memories of Aswan, Luxor, Alexandria,
Hurgada, Mountain Sinai, cruise on the Nile, camping
under the veil of the sky, swimming in the oasis
springs, relaxing on Red Sea beaches and even
playing hide and seek with white foxes in the White
desert, dancing with Bedouins and off course having
numerous of visits to Museums, temples as well astraditional mosques. History lessons were not
skipped at all, as after the end of the training
programme we had a tour guide most of the time
with us, teaching or just enjoying a cup of hibiscus at
the evenings.
Definitely, Egypt and its people will stay in my memory leaving me the best impressions as their
passion for Pharmacy made them achieve a great educational, professional, historical, hospitable
and joyful mixture of students training."

To dispense a medicine from the pharmacy under the governmental health system, thepharmacist should gain a lot of information from the patient, about the doctor and about the
patient himself, so this makes the process of dispensing the medicines more complicated and
tiring for both pharmacists and patients.
If the government lowered the price of the medicine and the pharmacist disagreed because thislowers his profit, the government stop dealing with him and so he loses 90% of his customers.
For the pharmacist to get his money back from the government he should cut the price andbarcode from the medicine box and tap it with the dispensing form and this makes the shape of
the box unbeautiful and even may make the medicine without protecting box.
The government would like to bring chain pharmacy system to Turkey and so there will not beany chance for pharmacists to have their own business in their own pharmacy and they will be
only working in others` pharmacies and gain less profit. There is no delivery system in the community pharmacy to deliver the medicines to their
customers, and so the patient should go to the pharmacy.
If the patient would like to buy the medicine without the prescription governmental coverage, hewill pay much more than the other price.
There is no current law to state the distance between each pharmacy and the other and so youmay find 4 pharmacies near to each other door by door.
Non pharmacists can work as medical reps. Pharmacies got paid from the government each 3 months. The orange prescription is for kidney dialysis, the purple for blood products both of products are
not present in the pharmacy just ordered and sent by each order and the pharmacist don`t see
them, red prescription for toxics and should be with lab reports and not prescribes by any
doctor, green prescription for another level of controlled drugs but prescribed by any doctor.
Morning, afternoon, evening, night, before or after meal
no. Of tablets, no of spoons, no of drops.
each ..... hours
They are so friendly with medical reps, and they are not pharmacists, they make them sit anddrink something.
An article about "Community Pharmacy in Turkey" by Hamza Ashraf
90% of citizens are covered by the governmentalhealth insurance system, patients go to the
hospital and don`t pay any thing there and then
when they go to the pharmacy take the medicine
and the payment is withdrawn from their salaries,
so the government is the major customer and this
is a problem because the customer is the one who
controls the price.

"I've SEP in Hungary and I've visited Budapest,
Balaton, Praha and Wien.
It was a very pleasant experience to go for SEP for
the third time in a row, I really recommend going on
SEP for any one. Meeting new people & visiting new
places is amazing besides the night life in Budapest
& Praha is absolutely stunning.
You will earn great expertise regarding your
pharmaceutical practice & you can improve you
communication skills. But I have to advice you guys
that English is a must for complete & satisfactory
conversation with you fellow SEP mates, we had a
couple of Spanish & Turkish girls with us who barely
speak English & communication with them wasreally hard, it was as if they were completely cut off
