Sunday’s Sermon WHAT TO PRAY THIS WEEK This Sunday’s Music SONGS OF WORSHIP As we prepare for corporate worship, meditate on the lyrics from some of our songs of worship. 1. Pray for those who will lead in worship: Pastor Rickey Primrose Tim Lawles & the Worship Ministry 2. Pray that the Holy Spirit will move in our corporate gatherings, leading us to exalt Jesus Christ. 3. Pray that MBBC will grow in Christ-exalting, Kingdom- advancing ministry in 2015. 4. Pray that God will move on us to be more evangelistic and, through our obedience in sharing the Gospel, will save many. 5. Pray for the gospel to be proclaimed and displayed in the marriages and families in our church. “The Blessing Greater than Marriage”— Isaiah 56:3-5 Pastor J. Josh Smith This coming Sunday we will conclude our sermon series Extending Eden by looking at the topic of singleness. Let me be clear: We are not tacking this message onto the end of this series to be sentimental toward singles within our church. We include this message in this series because this whole series has centered on the mission and plan of God, and singleness, just as marriage, must be aligned under His plan. The Bible has an extremely high view of singleness. Marriage is not the end; it is a means to the end of glorifying God. This is the exact same mission to which all those who are single in Christ have been called. As you prepare for Sunday, read through the following passages: 1 Corinthians 7 and Isaiah 56:4-5. How has Jesus redefined our identity and ambitions? How has He provided everything we often look for in earthly relationships? All Christians are a part of the offspring of Christ; we are members of the family of God. What implications does this have on the way single and married adults view their earthly family? This is a message that will be incredibly important for our entire church family as we learn about a family that transcends earthly marriages and progenies. -Prelude Music- Let The Church Say Amen Andraé Crouch -Praise & Adoration- Every Praise John David Bratton & Hezekiah Walker All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name Edward Parronet & Oliver Holden God Is Able Ben Fielding & Reuben Morgan -Adoration Song- Fall Afresh Jeremy Riddle Mighty Wind Andraé Crouch But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. - John 14:26 Every Praise Chorus Every praise is to our God Every word of worship with one accord Every praise every praise is to our God Sing hallelujah to our God Glory hallelujah is to our God Every praise every praise is to our God Bridge God my Savior God my Healer God my Deliverer Yes He is yes He is (Yes He is yes He is) Ending Every praise is to our God Every word of worship with one accord Every praise every praise Every praise every praise Every praise every praise Every praise every praise Every praise every praise Every praise every praise Every praise every praise is to our God August 16, 2015 God Is Able Verse 1 God is able and He will never fail He is almighty to God Greater than all we seek, greater than all we ask He has done great things Chorus Lifted up, He defeated the grave; raised to life Our God is able, in His name we overcome For the Lord our God is able Verse 2 God is with us and God is on our side He will make away. Sunday’s Sermon In response to Sunday’s message, take time to think about these truths and the response questions.

For Kids: Church Responsibility—1 Corinthians 1-16

Big Picture Question for Kids: What is the church?

Big Picture Answer for Kids: The church is made up of people who worship Jesus together.

Christ Connection: Jesus wants people in the church to meet together, worship God, and tell others the good news about Jesus.

Key Passage: Revelation 22:12-13

For Teenagers: Locusts & the First Woe Lesson Text: Revelation 9:1-12

Sunday, August 9|“The Design Broken: Divorce”—Genesis 1-2 Truth: Marriage was created by God. It was God who saw that it wasn’t good for man to be alone; it was God who made a distinct and complementary being for Him; it was God who united them in a one-flesh relationship. Marriage was God’s idea; He owns the copyright. Therefore, only God has authority over the definition and duration of marriage.

Truth: Marriage was created for the glory of God. Marriage displays God’s nature, His Gospel, furthers His purpose, and sanctifies us for the sake of His glory. Marriage displays the unconditional love Christ has for His bride; husband and wife must hold fast to each other just as Christ holds fast to us. Marriage is not primarily about us; it is primarily about the glory of God.

Truth: Divorce distorts God’s purposes in marriage. Divorce communicates that Christ’s covenant love is conditional upon the other party’s faithfulness. It communicates that God will only cleave to us as long as we meet His expectations and are faithful to Him. We do not believe the Bible ever gives Christians the right to initiate a divorce.

Response: Declare a high view of marriage. Speak with grace and love, but do not compromise God’s high view of marriage. Divorce is a very challenging topic, since it leaves behind such a long wake of pain, but we cannot allow the difficulty of the topic to stop us from declaring a high view of marriage. This generation and the next generation need to know about God’s high view of marriage. The church is often far too casual with this issue; we must declare a high view of marriage.

Response: Fight for marriage. Do not give up. Remember, God never intended the Christian life to be lived in isolation but has given all Christians the body of Christ for encouragement, exhortation, and admonition. Lean upon the body of Christ to help you fight. We have a team of marriage mentors who want to help you fight. Don’t wait until papers are being filed to reach out for help. Humble yourself and allow the church to help you fight for your marriage. Do not stop fighting.

Response: Proclaim the grace of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If you are in a marriage now that is not your first, fight for your marriage. Trust that the Gospel is sufficient to provide forgiveness and freedom from past mistakes, and trust the Gospel is powerful enough for your current marriage. If you feel as if the marriage you are in cannot work, trust in the power of the Gospel to change your heart, your spouse’s heart, and give you both the power to persevere. If at any point you begin to think that there is no hope for your marriage, combat that lie with the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that provides for us everything we need for everything He calls us to be.
