What To Do When Your CHild Is Being Bullyed
Parenting is one of the most wonderful experiences that there is in life. The following tips will
help you manage parenting effectively. The advice here will help you prepare for the journey
of parenting.
When your child shares a problem with you, make an effort to view it from his or her point of
view. Something as small as a missing crayon might not seem like a big deal, but to your
child, it can make him very upset.
Establishing clear boundaries and using positive reinforcement will lead to happier, more well
adjusted children. Telling your children "hands are for helping and not hurting" is better than
just saying "don't hit" because it gives them an example of what to do instead of just telling
them what NOT to do.
Children have a natural need for independence. Give them household chores so they will feel
the sense of independence that they need. Allow children to help put away dishes, clean toys
and choose their own clothes for the day. Kids love to be helpful with the laundry, and can
help you fold, or pass you items to be folded. Small tasks help them feel like they've being
independent, and they'll be helping you out at the same time.
Acknowledging good behavior in children is one of the qualities of a great parent. It is natural
that children seek attention. If you don't give it to them for doing the right thing, they will try to
get it by doing the wrong thing. If your children are not assured of your love, they may seek
proof of it by acting out.
If you provide appropriate places for children to store their toys and things, then you can
teach them about organization. Without teaching your child a little something about
organization, you could wind up with toys, books, and utensils scattered everywhere.
Children love to learn, so if you teach them how to put his things away properly, they will be
able to do it themselves after playing with them.
Rotate toys often for toddlers to keep them from becoming bored or forgetting what is at the
bottom of the toy box. Usually a toddler will quit paying attention to a toy, unless it's one of
their favorites. Keeping things in rotation preserves the sense of curiosity kids have in their
toys, and removes the need to keep buying new ones.
Whenever your child brings a problem to your attention, you should look at it from his point of
view. Little things, such as losing a crayon, may mean more to a child then they may to you.
Create some family rules for how your children interact, but keep the focus positive. For
example, instead of "no hitting," opt for "only touch gently."
As the article above stated, parenting is a process and is not just about letting things happen
naturally. If you choose to incorporate the advice given above into your parenting practice,
you have taken a great step towards being a better prepared and more effective parent.
