COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

On Monday 22 June at 2.00 pm community members met

at Smithtown Public School with the hope of clarifying the

values of the Smithtown community and the actions we

need to enact to achieve our shared vision for our

community.

At first we identified what are the positives of living in

this small unique community:

• Life -long friendships

• familiarity with families

• everyone knows kids and families

• kids watching out for each other

• feeling safe

• opportunity to teach our kids values

• looking out for each other

• easy to spot danger and strangers

• help there when we need it

• easy to socialise and connect with each other

What values do we want?

• respect for each other

• respect for people and their property

• respecting different opinions without judgement

• treating people the way you want to be treated

• helping others

• honesty being

• kindness

• parents working together to solve problems

• respect of community resources eg park

• being supportive, friendly

What values do we not want?

• disrespect

• bad behaviour in public places

• swearing, hurting people , littering,

• judgement

• conflict

Where to next?

1. What is the role of the school in teaching and sup-

porting shared values?

2. What is the role of parents?

3. What is the role of the community?

about understanding

What will get in the way of achieving harmony and en-

acting our values within our community?
