WHAT IT MEANS.
2013 Annual Report
In 2012 we rebuilt and retooled our kitchen to expand the physical capacity of our Hunger Relief Program. And in doing so, we committed to increasing the number of hunger relief meals by 15%. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of our volunteers and staff, we exceeded that goal and delivered over 100,000 more meals last year to help children, seniors and families who need them most.
Our Culinary Job Training Program continues to help our students transform their futures with new culinary skills and life skills like conflict resolution, teamwork and personal finance. Dozens of students graduated from the job training program last year with class employment rates as high as 100% after graduation. And every week, Second Helpings graduates return to hire other students, to volunteer as guest instructors or in our hunger relief kitchen. Our graduates recognize and appreciate the opportunity that they received from Second Helpings and they return to give that opportunity to someone else.
But it’s easy to get lost in the numbers and not see the very personal impact that the meals and opportunities provided by Second Helpings have on so many people in our community. Each child, each senior, each family, each Culinary Job Training student has their own unique story. So, we’d like to share what it means. . .
With thanks,
Jennifer VigranChief Executive Officer

“ A career in culinary arts is a life changing experience, and students who graduate from our Culinary Job Training program leave not only with new cooking skills but also a jumpstart to a new life.”
- Chef Sam Brown Director of Culinary Job Training
Each person who graduates from the Culinary Job Training program is cause for celebration, but in 2012 Second Helpings marked a milestone in Class #69, which included its 500th graduate.
Last year, 40 adults graduated from the intensive 10-week program, and graduates are now working in Central Indiana as cooks, executive chefs, business owners and culinary instructors.
