You know us by our slogan: Read together 20 minutes every day. We are the international Children’s Reading Foundation, a network of community-based Chapters each promoting the vision that every child learns to read early and well, thereby reaching his or her full potential in school and life.

To achieve this vision, we build and support independent, non-prot Chapters that:

The Children’s Reading Foundation believes that everyone - families, schools and communities - has an important role in ensuring that all children have a strong reading foundation.

Join us! Together we can give countless children a brighter future.

What is the Children’s Reading Foundation?

This afternoon I’m proong the “What is the Children’s Reading Foundation?” mini-brochure. I will send you feedback for the front side, and Dena will send comments/ changes for the back (activities). Ian, I know you are the writer and designer of this brochure, so please use or alter my suggestions! I’m just giving my reaction to the rst draft. Many thanks!Nancy Love the photo and colors – but the text isn’t inviting to read. It doesn’t draw me into it.· Our slogan (which is how we are best known) isn’t used.

· Also, I would love to see “Serving Young Readers for 15 Years - 1996-2011” banner included.

Layout that makes the text easier to read; here are some novice ideas:· Paragraph one:

o New rst sentence: “You know us by our slogan: xxx 20 minxxx. And our passion: kids learning and loving reading.”

o Second sentence: “We are the international Children’s Reading Foundation, a network of community-based Chapters each promoting the vision [put “vision” in bold or a color] that every child…. (to end of paragraph.)”

· Paragraph two:

o Get rid of hyphenated words where possible.

o Merge sentence one and two: In order to achieve this vision, the foundation/CRF/we [choose one that best ts the spacing] builds and supports independent, non-prot Chapters that promote a culture of literacy in their region through:

§ (indent the two key activities) Relentless “Read with your child” public awareness campaigns

§ Eective programs, activities and resources that help parents and caregivers successfully develop their child’s literacy skills.

· Paragraph three:

o Is there a reason you used the same wording here as the rst paragraph? (Seems like wasted space.)

o How about: “The Children’s Reading Foundation believes that everyone – families, schools and communities - has an important role in ensuring that all children have a strong reading foundation. Join us! Together we can give countless children a brighter future.” [ or some kind of call-to-action]
