The best part of my job is educating people as to why I am here. And believe me, I get asked the question all the time. I’m also asked other important questions, some of which are stated below. I want to share the answers to all these questions. But first, try and answer them yourselves–and then see if you know the answer.
1. How can Arbor Acres be considered a nonprofit organization?
2. Why are there so many fundraisers here at Arbor Acres?
3. What is the Annual Fund?
4. How is the Mother’s Day fund different from the Resident Assistance Fund?
5. Who knows the names of those individuals receiving financial assistance?
6. How does Arbor Acres forecast a prospective resident’s financial situation?
7. How much does it cost to live in Strickland Place?
8. What is the Year-End Fund?
9. When will you stop asking for money?
ANSWERS
1. Arbor Acres was established under the affiliation and support of the Western Conference of The United Methodist Church. Our mission qualifies us as a Section 501(c)(3) organization with nonprofit status.
2. The Philanthropic Arts department is responsible for only one fundraiser – the Resident Assistance Fund. The Resident Council of Arbor Acres determines other Winston-Salem

community fundraisers each year in which residents participate. The Employee Christmas Fund is resident-driven as well.
3. The Annual Fund IS the Resident Assistance Fund. Some people refer to the Resident Assistance Fund as the Annual Fund because we campaign annually for this cause.
4. The Mother’s Day Offering is the annual kickoff opportunity to contribute to the Resident Assistance Fund. All three Methodist-affiliated communities in the Western Conference [Arbor Acres, Givens Estates (Asheville) and Aldersgate (Charlotte)], have done this for many years.
5. Ken Boyles, Vice President–Finance; David Matthews, Controller; Lynn Ross, Director of Marketing; and Mary Kessler, Resident Account Specialist, are the only staff who know which residents are receiving support from the Resident Assistance Fund.
6. The business office performs a conservative analysis upon application to Arbor Acres. Those analyses are an excellent indicator of one’s financial future.
7. Skilled nursing fees are currently $318 per day.
8. The year-end APPEAL is a final opportunity to contribute to the Resident Assistance Fund.
9. The Philanthropic Arts team will never stop asking for contributions to the Resident Assistance Fund. We are proud to be a part of this important mission of Arbor Acres.
We invite you to celebrate with us and honor your Mother (and Father) by contributing to the Mother’s Day Offering.
