Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) means electronics, communications, or information processing used singly or in combination: to enhance surface transportation efficiency,
reliability and facilitation of intermodalism; to enhance safe operation of motor vehicles
and nonmotorized vehicles; and to protect and enhance the natural
environment and other resources affected by surface transportation.

ITS Under SAFETEAITS Under SAFETEA ITS can be found in several titles of the
law, including Federal Aid Highways, Highway Safety, Public Transportation, Research, and Transportation Planning.
Funds available for each class of Federal lands highway are available for ITS projects eligible for assistance under Title 23.

Provision should be made to include participation from the Forest Service
