The student will ask and answer basic personal questions and will describe the world in which he or she lives including time, weather, day and date.

Students will ask and answer questions such as ¿Cómo te llamas? And ¿de dónde eres? Students will give the time, day and date and describe weather.

The student will describe self using personal characteristics and conditions.

The student will order and describe food in restaurants and cafes.

What is it we expect students to learn? Identifying Essential Standards transportation, names, family, celebrations, and holidays.

Hispanic festivals, and family structure in Hispanic countries.

The student will write a well-constructed paragraph in Spanish.

Students will write a paragraph of at least 5 sentences with a topic sentence and three examples. Students will use compound sentences.

Verb conjugation. Sentence structure. Basic vocabulary.

Unidad 4 and Unidad 5 writing assessments

Fourth quarter Unidad 4 and Unidad 5 in Avancemos 1

The student will answer questions about a simple reading selection in Spanish.

Students will read and answer questions about a passage in Spanish in the present tense which is at least 3 paragraphs long. The passage will contain verbs in various conjugations with a variety of vocabulary.

Dictionary skills. Recognition of cognates. Use of context clues.

Third quarter and fourth quarter Unidad 3, Unidad 4, and Unidad 5 in Avancemos 1
