An essential part of our overall program outcomes, vec-tor illustration is a vital part of any New Media designer’s tool set. Unlike bitmap images, vector images are scal-able. Additionally, Illustrator’s vector file sizes are small compared to the larger bitmap images from Photoshop. Finally, vector files are the heart of every logo design and the raw material of many motion graphics projects.

This course covers a wide range of fundamental tech-nologies involved in professional digital design and production. Professional industry standards are covered in depth. Topics include: digital color, vector graphics, typography for new media, fundamentals of bitmap imaging, scanning, font technologies, the Mac OS,
production efficiencies, presentation & output methods.
This first semester class allows students to perform fundamental Macintosh OS operations while learning an essential, industry tool in depth.
Illustrator software will be used at beginning, intermedi-ate and advanced levels to create vector drawings.
Illustrator will be used as an introduction to setting and manipulating type for purposes of communicating specific concepts.
Illustrator will be used to produce basic to complex vec-tor illustrations including those with gradient mesh.
Logo design will be introduced using vector drawing
Button and icon design will be introduced using vector drawing tools.
Exporting to industry standard formats and printing essentials are also presented during this course.

Create, select, edit and apply sound design to support vi-sual designs for broadcast and interactive environments.

This is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of digital audio. Students learn the principles of digital audio editing, timing, mixing, sequencing, midi and compression technologies. Emphasis is placed on rein-forcing visual communications with appropriate sound and music, audio concepts and terminology, establishing mood, file formats and optimizing file sizes.
Familiarize students with the fundamental principles and concepts of audio for New Media, including definitions and terminology, acquiring sound, recording, editing
and manipulating digital audio for specific incorporation, application and delivery in New Media projects.
Apply the use of audio software tools and techniques to create, mix, synthesize, sequence and output digital audio files.
Design and develop original audio content for interactive and sound track use.
Students will learn and apply fundamental music theory to their digital audio projects.
Students will learn and apply terminology and proce-dures in the creation and digital manipulation of audio.
Timing, formats and file types utilized in the multimedia and web environments will be covered.
